In case anyone wants it - I've added TAB and a video of the intro solo played fast & slow to the bonus content for this video at bulletproofguitarplayer.com. That's the first link in the description box! If you're already a site member, you have immediate access to it all :) Hope everyone has a good weekend!
He’s right about listening. When I dived headfirst into steely Dan 20 years ago it completely changed my phrasing, technique and whole approach to playing.
Thanks for the free lesson. I tried to sound like your playing so I recorded myself but when i played it back it sounded more like a tex-mex polka lol. O well, GOD bless n rock on.
You are such a damn good guitarist! Thank you for evoking the spirit of Danny Gatton, Albert Lee, Brad Paisley, Steve Morse and so many other brilliant players.
+1 on quoting Steve Morse! The C&W track on his Southern Steel album is my favourite (or is it the one on Coast To Coast?), Southern Steel is shamefully off most people's music radar somehow - instrumental super-muso rock that's more heavy Blues and hard rock than its contemporary releases Surfing With The Alien or Passion And Warfare. Also, just like Dave Edmunds, on Sweet Little Lisa, Morse has also collaborated with Albert Lee - check out General Lee on Steve Morse's solo album The Introduction. If you can go toe to toe with Albert Lee on country guitar....you're no pantywaist! Yours, a Steve Morse fanboy Lol
Gotta say Ross you are and inspiration for an old plucker such as myself ... great when a young fella such as yo'self looks at other genres for the expansion of your chops .. very articulate as well for a youngan .. keep at .. 🙏🙏🙏
Great job, I’m a life long Country guy. Brent Mason and Johnny Hiland, Albert Lee are maters of the Chicken Pickin! I have been hybrid picker since I first heard Steve Morse and Albert Lee in 83 when I was a kid. Awesome video!
For some reason, when I started taking guitar lessons (primarily for rock, like Ross) I strongly avoided hybrid picking because I thought it’d take away from my style or something. Instead, the more I practice years later, the more I tend to prefer hybrid picking! To me, it’s more ergonomic, dynamic, and expressive. Thanks for another great lesson!
Jerry Reed? The claw? 1st vid.. came over from Rhett's pod.. wow blown away! My bud (metal head) and I(chicken picker) were just having this conversation!
Ross, I have to say that I love your videos. Not only your playing is fantastic (love Jack Griffiths too, do you know him?) but the subjects you choose and the way you explain is simple, effective and clear. Thanks a lot.
Interesting to hear the Irish/Scottish... accent from a blues guy teaching country licks; lol! Bluegrass flatpickers were the original shredders. Truly, it's all good! Rock on!
Hi mate, when is bulletproof 2.0 dropping? I’d like to get this course if it’s still available. I’m new to chicken picking and I found this video pretty useful! Nailed the first lick, now I’m craving for more! Cheers
I am not sure if chicken picking (CP) and hybrid picking (HP) are the same as you mention at 2:48. CP refered to the "clucking" sound produced by employing appropriate muting and percussive techniques. In other words "clunking" sound could also be produced eg, with just a flat pick. HP refers to use of more than one "item" in striking strings, eg flat pick, thumb and finger picks, fingers, etc. Employing HP doesn't necessarily result into the "clunking" sound unless aforementioned techniques are employed.
Johnny Moraes Guitar I definitely started out as one and still play rock now and then. But there are a few different sides to my playing for sure. Thanks!
I think if you stick with rock and blues guitar you will fall in love with country guitar EVEN if you don't like the rest of the music of country music (breathe). I've got a few vids on my yourube channel if anyone wants to check em out while I replay Ross's vid 20 times 😉
Excellent video, Ross! I've been wanting a Black Tele. You make that Fender sound great. You gave me a purpose today....I'm gonna get outta here this morning and hit up our local Guitar Center and Sam Ash. 'Honey, I"m going to the store. Could I, uh, just get the Credit Card from you?"
hello congratulations for the lessons. they are really useful. only one question in this video you have a sound you don't mention. to be able to make country music. definitely an overdrive pedal?
Great lesson, man. I've been into the country bag since I first heard Steve Morse on the Dixie Dregs album What If. There is a dude named Doug Seven, he has some great lessons and licks available. I always liked the left field country players like Greg Koch. He is a beast of everything (like Steve Morse). Greg has some great lessons online and he's a funny dude. Here's Greg completely owning it, it starts off killer and he just blisters it: ruclips.net/video/Hf2pIHe0Drc/видео.html His ideas are super complex. One of my favorites for dipping in the country bag.
Hey Ross. Been in Nashville for 30 years and have toured with many artists. I love your tone! I use an older Flextone 3 amp by Line6 which gives me much of my rock sounds but I just can't get the tone you have going on. Can you give me some tone setting suggestions. Thanks
Hi Ross, great job..what I was searching for, since a long time, chickin pickin is so cool. I'm planning to buy that Tele too, it sound amazing. Is it OK right out of the box (no sharp frets and so on)? Did you swap the saddles? I see on the web that it comes with bent steel saddles, what are yours
I’m mainly a rock player who has never really played country. But for some reason I use an inordinate amount of country licks and techniques. Multiple unison bend shapes, chicken picked notes etc. It’s not something I ever decided to do. It just happened. ruclips.net/video/cFqEfkvIBiY/видео.html Watch this video for some inspiration. A Danish guitarist in his attic absolutely nailing an arrangement he made of “Help Me Make it Through the Night”. So clean and so many techniques.
Ray Flacke - Brit picker who went to the USA and tore Nashville apart, Played with all the greats - Ricky Scagg Marty Stewart - ruclips.net/video/0VhFIw9CbO4/видео.htmlsi=cEpHF8h9w5qRAShn
He walked in on a gig my band was playing one night ' we invited him up on stage to do a few songs ' I let him play my tele and use my pick. He didn't give my pick back. So there you go. True story.
I can't quite see your fingernails but are you growing them for hybrid picking? I'm actually working on hybrid picking and found myself accidentally doing it instead of just using a plectrum the other day. I'm working through a hybrid picking book at the moment. I have started growing my right hand nails but that will interfere with my lifestyle post-plague. I can use just my fingertips but I need the volume up for that. Do you have any observations?
Johnno Dorber They are a bit longer than usual in this vid but that's out of laziness, not intention ;) You don't need to use your nails, the side of your fingers will still sound good.

Thank you!

Are you a rock guitar player? Lol... i am....but i saw some of your other videos, in which you shred on some jazz bluesy stuff, and does it very well.

And the way he says “solo” is charming as hell! “So-Lowe.” (Edit: that was regarding Doug Seven)
I'm a total Greg Koch fan 👍
Listen to Johnny Hiland and Matheus Canteri. Total shredder country players.

Hey Check out Guthrie Trapp. Or Daniel Danato. JD Simo
I've been fortunate enough to have met and played with both Guthrie and Daniel
How to sound Rock when you`re a Country Guitarist would be interesting as well
Space Expire Audio Hadn't considered doing that. Not a bad suggestion!
Listen to the live version of 'Patricia' Guthrie Trapp
3:09 just a time stamp for me
Hello may i know which guitar effects u are using?

Just wondering how much your online courses cost
Thanks

Brent Mason used some of my guitars once to record a tutorial video…. But I don’t think his skills rubbed off on them 😅

Jerry Reed!

Check out Steve Wariner!
The reason why I'm here is to figure "The Song Remains the Same"!
You are an awesome teacher bro! I simply connect with your method. Thank you!!!
Thank you Frank!
Mark Knopfler!!
Remarquable!
Awesome 👏
Check out Brad Paisley!!! The man can play
You must have missed it, he mentions Paisley in the video and has a link in the description box.
Only clicked cause the title was going behind the guitar tuning peg
I'm glad this thumbnail trick still works. I broke a real sweat putting it together.
Gerry Donahue....
Two words: Brad Paisley
A true guitar god.

Ok, but that video he showed was Brent Mason.
Mark Knopfler: Amateurs...
It’s great, but I find it extremely difficult.
