I’ve been blowing through videos for 2 weeks looking for someone to simply show me my STARTING point for a lead ride.Your subtracting 3 is what I’ve been searching for. Thank you for Not assuming people know those lil things. Very much appreciated!!! Needless to say, SUBSCRIBED!!!
Im so glad that these videos helped! Its a good feeling to share the stuff that people showed me or i had to figure out by trial and error. Thanks for subcribing! -Sparky
The "subtract 3" thing is just a simple way to explain Relative Minor. Basically, C major and A minor are relative to each other - they contain the same notes. The 6th note of any major scale is the relative major. Going down from the first note on the E string, that ends up being 3 frets down since that's the lower octave of the maj6th interval.
I learned guitar through piano books. As a child I took piano lessons and a lot of my lesson books would show how the guitar chords were fingered. Coupling that with read reading the actual notes led me to my own sort of picking transitions from one chord to another then figuring out double stops by way of a passing chord opened up some things for me as well as figuring out that while say the piano runs a progression at c,b,am,g,f,am,g...on the guitar I might ride that c a bit longer instead of playing that b chord. And play it as c,g,am,c,f,am,g kinda mixing alternate picking and strumming.
Awesome video - thanks for stopping around 8 min and breaking down how you played those big chord shapes on only the b and high e string. I always see people do it and now I get it!
Sparky, May an old keyboard player who doubles on guitar jump in for a minute? The good stuff you share just past 11:00 about A minor being the RELATIVE MINOR of C Major? ..same key signature and all? (some Music Theory nerd VOCABULARY, there :-) Truth is: Not just scalar-type licks, but a WHOLE BUNCHA Blues-y and Minor Rock licks in Am sound Major & Country-fied in C. Not quite 100%...but a lot! Thanks for your time! Great lesson!
Man just love the substraction method techniques substracting 3 step downward to minor pentatonic and replacing it with Flat major from the major root was very helpful brother 💙 from Nepal.
You are an amazing teacher, you are on to the point, precise and a lot of quality , i have learnt a lot from this video, thank you so much dude. you deserve a lot more audience
Hey Sparky ! Thank you for that lesson. I appreciate your simplicity, honesty and willingness to teach. Your a good teacher. I have now subscibed to your channel. looking forward to more videos from you. Thank you again. Love from Mumbai.
What’s that pentatonic scale that everybody’s supposed to know?🙈 Found the beginning of the video very helpful but then struggled to keep up..🙈 maybe my levels not high enough but also it would’ve been helpful to see the notes and scales visualised till end of Video not only in the beginning. Found them really helpful!! You have a great vibe and this kinda made my day :D Hoping I’ll improve, come back to this video and then understand/can follow fully.. xxxx thank you!!!
Your really good and will have many more followers soon I’m sure!! Keep on doing the animated visualisations of chords, scales, notes so beginners can follow (I can’t follow Spurbahnen so quickly)
*#LightbulbMoment* Never understood how the bending up/down into the lead worked. Never had instruction. Now I know why it does.Thank You! Subscribed. Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Great video Sparky! Love the explanation of how to work licks in from chord shapes👌I’m a hands on visual kinda guy, so your walk through helps immensely...for me. More of these types of lessons would be awesome!! Thanks

THANKS for naming the key first thing! so many teachers on the tube just say start with this fret or put your finger here or there.
That's a pretty important thing to mention!
Very true!
Exactly. I'm not a teacher and that's how I would start. Good job

Wouldnt B be the 7 of the major scale not the flat seven? Im confused. I had to teach myself music theory though so im not exactly an expert😂😂
B flat is the flat 7
B natural is the 7 yes
OK nice tutorial, I get it to unlock country music stick in a B flat.
