The question in the title itself is going inside my head for a while as I'm trying to figure out what to do for my higher studies and I'm glad I found your channel (from another video of yours). Computer Science, Software Engineering and IT are quite popular courses here in Sri Lanka, but Cybersecurity on the other hand is much less popular here, even a single Government University doesn't directly offers that course though there are pvt universities and other options for that. I was all set to follow a CS degree but the idea of doing a cybersecurity degree crossed my mind as I really like privacy protection, and ethical hacking, not to look cool, but to respect and defend peoples' privacy (I know it sounds a little silly). Do you think cybersecurity would be bad for a person who is not so much interested in Hacking like you said about yourself (being the best hacker) as those mindsets benefit to progress through the career path ; but rather planning to do cybersecurity just for the mentioned preferences. Thank You!

Always computer science. I made the mistake of doing cyber security degree and realized how underdeveloped the degree is. The fact that I paid $30 Practical Ethical Hacking Course by the CyberMentor and learned 1000% more than a $1100 Ethical Hacking course required by my cybersecurity major is insane. There just few labs and all textbook. It’s very important to compote course curriculums in your college courses because 9/10 times a course online has more quality/quantity. Not to mention cybersecurity degrees do not have much variety when it comes to courses. The only cybersecurity courses my college has are basic cybersecurity fundamentals, ethical hacking, Networking, and Audits. So, a big waste of time/money.
That’s a reflection of the university that YOU went to. Looks like you went to a crappy university and my guess is if you did computer science in the same university it would’ve been equally crappy.
@@UnixGuy actually I transferred from a computer science college to this business/cybersecurity college because they had what I was looking for the most part. @@shafialanower3820 I disagree, all the major universities in NY have top notch cyber programs, well developed and have been running it for years. it’s either that you went to a college with a poor cyber program or that you don’t know how to evaluate how good a cyber program is, which is understandable because as a fresh graduate you don’t really know the industry yet.

Hi, I come from a non IT background but few years ago I enrolled in a cert 4 in cyber security and had learnt that I am passionate about this field especially the technical aspect of it like server administration and penetration testing and cloud computing. My passion led to me to succeed in this course but unfortunately I never had the chance to work in this field as my applications were unsuccessful because of the lack of work experience. Few years on, and now I want to get back to this field, and am interested in doing the bachelor of cyber security. Do you advise on undertaking this course in order to have a refresher on what I’ve learnt, and to further my knowledge in this field so I can land a career ?

Could you please share some information on the difference between different concentrations in cyber security that is computer security, network and infrastructure and last one government compliance and risk
Which concentration is best for a beginner to start with?
Please guide me in this.
not a hug difference, it depends on the university, it’ll probably be just some different subjects - I wouldn’t worry too much about it, it’ll have minimal to zero impact to your career

Thank You!

hey bro, I took computer science as my diploma and right now I am doing Cyber Security but as you mentioned in CSE if you wish to develop software and stuff computer science is the best. now I am thinking of taking CSE, not Cyber Security but the thing I can't change my branch
you can always learn programming after your degree, you haven’t lost out on much
@@UnixGuy Oh really thanks the btw when I looked at their curriculum it almost looks the same.
However, I would still recommend computer science over cybersecurity because some of curriculums I’ve seen colleges in NY for cybersecurity it’s not as developed as it should be especially for the money you are paying
@@shafialanower3820
I disagree, all the major universities in NY have top notch cyber programs, well developed and have been running it for years.
it’s either that you went to a college with a poor cyber program or that you don’t know how to evaluate how good a cyber program is, which is understandable because as a fresh graduate you don’t really know the industry yet.
What should I do after doing degree in computer science to become a cybersecurity engineer ?!
