The book “soccenomics” actually points out that in many countries the most successful “footballing cities” are located in industrial areas that grew rapidly (via immigration) in a limited amount of time, creating a population boom and making the new habitants of the cities needing to “create” a way to identify themselves with their new city (hence, football)
In the big cities there was also the absence of traditional, universally accessible community hubs like say a church. Football became a roomier place of worship!
Finally someone mentions Australia I feel like everyone overlooks my city of Brisbane and just care about Melbourne and Sydney It is a pretty city with a beach on the bank of a river We have 3 league titles since the start of the A-league in 2005
Cities that aren't the capital tend to be a better environment to succeed for players because of external factors. For example Rome is a ridiculously hectic city which distracts the players daily and puts them under severe pressure to succeed. The fact that Roma and Lazio have won no more than 3 league title is embarrassing!
@@TwoFootball1998 they did indeed but sadly for these clubs they had to sell their star players after they realised they weren't going to achieve their goals at these clubs. I hope Lazio and Roma will one day be in a financial position where they can challenge for the Scudetto regularly and maybe Europe too.
Thankyou for mentioning Australia (both the current A-League & the old National Soccer League). Many of the old NSL clubs still exist (some under different names), but mostly only in their respective State or Premier Leagues. Four clubs were admitted to the A-League from the NSL; Perth Glory & Adelaide United (with their original NSL names), Newcastle United (as Newcastle Jets), Brisbane Lions (as Queensland Roar, now Brisbane Roar). Canberra has a team in the Women's A-League (W-League), but has never managed to get a men's team admitted to the A-League (financial issues?). They have a decent stadium for it (home to the National Rugby League's Canberra Raiders & Super Rugby's Australian Capital Territory Brumbies), which is a good start. Even though I don't live in Canberra, IMHO it would be nice to see them have a competitive team in the A-League. As for NZ, football has a presence, but is not that strong over there, where rugby football is the dominant code. The Wellington Phoenix play in the A-League (Wellington is the capital of NZ, but Auckland is easily NZ's most populated city). Again, thanks for another great video. Cheers :)
i think that criteria could be changed, namely because players like harry kane literally just warmed the bench on loan before his breakout in 2014/15 but most people consider him a homegrown player
@@dinglerofl4784 He is literally home grown, he came through spurs' academy. A homegrown player for a club is a player who has spent time in their youth academy or has played 3 seasons for them prior to being 21. Players like Pogba are homegrown for United because he came through their academy. Also warming the bench still counts as having played in England, because they're in the match day squad. I'm also certain Kane came off the bench a few times.
Hey HITC Sevens. I recently discovered your channel - thank you for all the interesting videos, and for the thorough research I know must go in to making them. I wanted to suggest a video based around footballing fathers and sons. It could simply be the 7 best/greatest footballing fathers-and-sons (e.g. the Schmeichels, the Maldinis), or maybe the 7 most promising/best current footballers who are sons of former players (e.g. Chiesa, Thiago/Rafinha). It must be hard to overcome the expectations that come with the 'shadow' of a father who was a great player, and therefore I find the topic interesting. Thanks again, and have a great weekend!

India's capital city doesn't have any proper football team either. Whereas Kolkata has two of the oldest in the world and the most famous Indian clubs East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
