Some corrections: 1. Dongguan does have a professional team now, Guangdong Lianghetang, which is from Dongguan, won the 2020 Chinese Champions League (4th tier), changed their name to Dongguan Guanlian and will represent Dongguan in the 3rd tier; 2. Nanjing Shaye actually dissolved before the 2020 season after just one year playing in China League Two (3rd tier), the team that has been representing Nanjing has been Nanjing Fengfan, who won the 4th tier in 2019 and promoted again in 2020 to China League One (2nd tier), and will represent Nanjing in it under the new name Nanjing City; 3. Chengdu Blades was actually named Chengdu Wuniu before, and the name Chengdu Tiancheng actually comes after Chengdu Blades, and was only used one year before its demise. Also Besides Sichuan Jiuniu, Chengdu also has another team in China League One, Chengdu Rongcheng. Those two teams have a fierce rivalry that’s seen as a continuation of those between Sichuan Quanxing (former team representing Sichuan that dissolved in the early 2000s) and Chengdu Wuniu around two decades ago (the team with the name Chengdu is considered more of a Chengdu’s representative while the Sichuan team is considered representing the entire Sichuan Province, despite them both located in the city of Chengdu)
I would think this trio of Brazilian cities would deserve an honorable mention: Brasília (3M people), Belém (2M) and Manaus (2M). Also worth noting that Brasília and Manaus each have their own white elephant stadium from the 2014 World Cup.
Not as ridiculous as Cuiabá though!!! Manaus should never have hosted games (Belem should have instead), but I can understand Brasilia as it is the capital. Without being pedantic but for the sake of accuracy, Lisbon has 3 top flight clubs, Sporting Clube de Portugal (which I support, so thanks for bringing to light the correct name!!), Sport Lisboa e Benfica, and Belenenses SAD (it’s a mess between the administration of the SAD - in portuguese Sociedade Anónima Desportiva - and the “original” football club which they broke off from - Clube de Futebol “os Belenenses”: which now play in the non-professional lower leagues, but claims to be the only legit “Belenenses”; have won in court the right to be the sole owners of that name, so that the top flight team officially has to go by B-SAD; and have plans to climb up the divisions... I’d love to see 2 Belenenses on the primeira liga, it would be a beautiful mess. Oh, and most likely next season Estoril - in greater Lisbon - will also be in the top flight. Cheers
San Antonio, TX. We currently are the 7th most populated city in the USA, yet only have a USL team (since no promotion/relegation exists in the MLS world). We were due to have a MLS team, but the higher ups at MLS decided that Austin was too good to pass up. Sadly, i believe we're going to be doomed to never have a top flight team here due to the politics of US Soccer.

San Antonio, TX. We currently are the 7th most populated city in the USA, yet only have a USL team (since no promotion/relegation exists in the MLS world). We were due to have a MLS team, but the higher ups at MLS decided that Austin was too good to pass up. Sadly, i believe we're going to be doomed to never have a top flight team here due to the politics of US Soccer.

I knew the first spot would be Delhi. I used to watch the matches of Dynamos at our home JLN Stadium, which is about 4 miles from my home..... The news that Dynamos are rebranding to Orisha FC disappointed me. But I'd say part of the reason for that was the lack of support for the team by the people here. Goa, Kolkata, Mumbai, and even my native place Kerala has a larger football community than Delhi, where people are more obsessed with Cricket.
