The Tokyo part is all over the place. The population of 37 mil is for the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan area which covers 13,500 sq km which isn’t all shown on the map. It’s a bit confusing at first because administratively Tokyo Metropolis (2,194 sq km/pop 13 mil) is treated as prefecture with a governor and subdivided into about 50 wards, cities, and towns with mayors. But at the same time, Tokyo is the capital city of Japan. The core of Tokyo Metropolis is the eastern part consisting of the 23 wards which have almost 10 million people total and are treated as individual cities. That’s the part most people think of as Tokyo. Should have kept it consistent using either the city proper or it’s entire metro area.
Even if you count Vatican city as a city, it still wouldn't be the smallest. The smallest city IN THE WORLD is actually located in Croatia and it's name is Hum. Hum is just a little smaller than Vatican
I was literally just in Japan and in Osaka they see it as one city but in Yokohama you could offend someone by saying that, personally I would say the canto plain area is greater Tokyo but the city of Tokyo is just the area between Kawasaki and Asakusa.

As small as Vatican City is, they still have a railway! The railway opened in 1934 and is only 300 meters (980 ft) long, making it the world's shortest national railway. It has access to Italy's network via a viaduct to San Pietro station which has been guaranteed since the Lateran Treaty was signed. Since 2015, the public can take a train from the Vatican to Castel Gandolfo (home of a palace that's the papal summer residence) every Saturday morning during the Summer (but was briefly paused during the pandemic).
I love MetaBallStudios but this video while looking cool is horrendously inaccurate as they used different metrics for certain cities and combined 3 cities at the end.
Here in Brazil, there is a city called "Altamira" in the state of "Pará" with 160.000 square km, it's bigger than netherlands, belgium and switzerland together, but there's a few people living there
Jack: Is that it? That's them all, that's them all The NY Tri-State, coming into view and not mentioned by Jack: 👁👄👁 The reason many US places are at the top is because the creator counted the whole metropolitan area rather than just the city, or they combined cities (like Dallas-Fort Worth or Boston-Providence). That's why the NY Tri-State is number one, because it's more than just NYC. If we count just the city and not a whole urban area like Tokyo-Yokohama, the world's largest city by area is Chongqing in China at 82,403 squared km (the size of Austria). In the top ten of cities by area, all except Khartoum (ranked third) are in China.
It's interesting to see cities by their land area as supposed to their population. The largest American city by land area is Sitka, Alaska on Baranof Island with a total land area of 12,471 square kilometres (around the same size as Northern Ireland). Most of the land is covered in mountains and the part where people actually live is more like a town than a city, but someone decided "hey, this small town and these mountains? Yeah, it's a city now". It's even crazier in China, Jiuquan is a "prefecture-level" city, and even though the urban area is quite small by Chinese standards, the whole area is larger than Greece. It just shows you how arbitrary city boundaries are.
The map and population shown in the video are of Greater Jakarta. Jakarta, together with four other surrounding cities, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, known as Jabodetabek. Also the map is upside down, as in the north part of Jakarta is on the bottom.

I go to school in Jacksonville and when I’m driving there from home after I see the welcome to Jacksonville sign it still takes me another 45 minutes to get to campus. And even then I could probably drive for another 15 minutes and still be in Jacksonville. Maybe I’m just salty but I feel like jax deserved a spot

According to the Mori Foundation of Japan's comprehensive global city survey, the top 3 cities in the world ranking are as follows. 1. London 2. New York 3. Tokyo In other words, the above cities can generally be said to be the best three cities in the world.
They considered the urban area which is what defines a city otherwise Ravenna (654 kmq) would be the second largest after Rome despite 90% of the territory being fields, forests and marshes.
Seoul and Incheon are not one city. Seoul : 605.2km^2 and 9,418,885 people If you want to combine cities, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon into one administrative district, it is called the "metropolitan area" in Korea.
Seoul is always tied up with Gyeonggi-do and Incheon. Many cities, including the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area and Shanghai and Beijing, add up the metropolitan area together.
For those who said that New York hadn’t been mentioned, I feel you, because my city Macao didn't even appear in the video. Macao is 33.3 km² currently but we are expanding a bit, would be the third smallest city in the world if we are included. We also have 700 thousand citizens, making it the most cramped city in the world Edit: I was thinking maybe the original vid just includes international cities? 3. Tokyo
In other words, the above cities can generally be said to be the best three cities in the world.
london is an awful place to be. one of the most dangerous and depressing places in the British isles.
@@realboyrandom4064 Preach brother. Same goes for New York. Filthy place.
@@_mnl_ if we’re talking america you can’t forget detroit. there isn’t a place in detroit that isn’t disgusting
They messed up with Milan, it's actually just 181 km^2, while Rome is more than 1200 km^2
They considered the urban area which is what defines a city otherwise Ravenna (654 kmq) would be the second largest after Rome despite 90% of the territory being fields, forests and marshes.
4:27 thats where I live irl
Seoul and Incheon are not one city.
Seoul : 605.2km^2 and 9,418,885 people
If you want to combine cities, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon into one administrative district, it is called the "metropolitan area" in Korea.
Yeah he should have used the metropolitan area word instead of cities, as everywhere its called
Seoul is always tied up with Gyeonggi-do and Incheon. Many cities, including the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area and Shanghai and Beijing, add up the metropolitan area together.
@@georgiopasca2720 He's using the metropolitan areas, just not calling them that.
1:56 QUOTE ME SOMEONE WILL POINT THIS OUT IN A REDDIT VIDEO
For those who said that New York hadn’t been mentioned, I feel you, because my city Macao didn't even appear in the video.
Macao is 33.3 km² currently but we are expanding a bit, would be the third smallest city in the world if we are included. We also have 700 thousand citizens, making it the most cramped city in the world
Edit: I was thinking maybe the original vid just includes international cities? Cause it doesn't seem like the whole world is in there
Budapest vs Abu Dhabi😂😂
btw just so you know,i believe tokyo is still the biggest singular city.there combining boston and a pretty big city (providence) into one.
Tokyo is most popukated city, not biggest city
@@marker1167 it is the largest in area, If you count only the city part
Its Chongqing, China
Well in Turkey there is a city named Konya with 40,841 km2

Tokyo=Yokohamaだよ?だから東京=横浜都市圏の事だよ?
At thos point they shouldve mentioned one of the largest megapolises too including Tokaido@@大下司-g3y

Gotta love how the smallest town is also just a whole country
Tokio's shape looks like Azerbaijan no joke
The capital of Japan, Tokyo is small. The west side of Tokyo is mostly mountains, so there aren't many people living there. The population is concentrated on the east side.
