The 2 most famous football clubs in Iran (Esteghlal & Persepolis) are also highly political, Esteghlal (named Taj = Crown back then) was a club established by the Shah and Iranian kingdom in 1940's while Persepolis (est. late 1960's) were meant to be club of Shah protestors and left wingers back then, and since the 1979 Islamic revolution the Iranian government has literally done anything to keep Persepolis in top of the league and equally bringing down their rival to the ground by Sending them to the 4th division, making the owners sell their star players right when theyre needed the most and even giving some trophies to Persepolis without even having a match played, Persepolis have won Iranian Premier league the last 4 seasons all by being rewarded some unfair penalties, strict red cards for opponent's players, a huge budget advantage over league's other teams and even sometimes forcing their Arch-Rivals owners to sell some of best players or even managers to Persepolis FC, Persepolis' current coach is hired by them after the Iranian Sport Minister sent some threatening letters to the coach's former club owners about leaving the coach to Persepolis or get the owner banned from football and even killing him.

@@Noname-xl3wt The sort of heavily-politicized ultradom we see is an expression of revolt against the power, by the disempowered. So there’s no need for left-wing ultras and that’s why we don’t see many. The left wing is the establishment/the system/“the Man”--they already have control over the media, corporations and state apparatus. So the “threat” of the left wing, with their religious-like belief in and insistence on their particular idea of “Progress,” is machinating in far higher places than merely in football stadiums.
celtic and hibernian, both formed as religious based clubs. there are teams in Lebanon, India and bangladesh that have strong ties to particular religious communities also. everton and man u both catholic clubs also.
If you include Beitar, you should also include Athletic Bilbao, who only sign Basque players. Also I think that St. Pauli is way more political than Barca. Barca is kind of an everymans' club, while St. Pauli is a dedicated left-winged, antifascist football club.
What about AEK Athens? A team founded by Greek refugees in Athens, 1924. The club has kept from the very begining a very friendly approach to refugees from any nation and any kind. AEK was founded in order to be a way of expression for refugees from Constantinople who departured as Greeks, and arrived to their home land as Turks. Plus, their fans are considered in their vast majority leftists, usualy critisizing Greek government and creating anti-nazi banners. Liverpool is the most political club in England - very militant city and extremely left wing so I don’t know why your using them as an example of commercialising slogans
While this is true, Premier League clubs are nowhere near as political as they once were. It's hard to be left wing when so much money is involved in the Premier league and almost every team has an international fanbase.
Yes but that doesn’t represent the fans does it? Like yesterday against arsenal multiple communist and socialist flags and symbols on the kop along with slogans ‘iron lady’ and the power of the people is greater than the power of the people in charge

0:34 I have to mention that the player in the picture was removed by the team a couple of days later, as this movement is not suitable with club's history
I'm right wing and don't think he was being that biased.Sadly most right wing clubs are plagued by far right supporters. Chelsea and Rangers are good examples of moderately right wing clubs
I like how it starts out with Independiente Santa Fe and Millonarios of Bogota. However both clubs were started by upper class people, not one working class and the other rich. Viva Colombia!
They're definitely not the MOST political - and their friendship with River Plate surely puts a dent in their left wing image - but I would personally have put them on the list, yes.
do you idiots realise that aligning football clubs with either the left or the right (and associating your rivals to the other side) only helps that opposing viewpoint to thrive?
Glasgows old firm ( Rangers and Celtic) without doubt are the most political and ideological rivalry in sport. Period. Over a century of rivalry have those two clubs settled their differences on the football pitch.
Really surprised that the two well known Scottish clubs aren’t in this. Rangers and Celtic. Though they are not so much political, but more religious orientated
Its more political than religious. You've got the boot-licking royalist, secret society goons, against the oppressed displaced socially conscious one's. Or more often these days, the rangers just do the opposite of Celtic. Celtic showed support to Palestine, so that lot just HAD to go the other side. But they've always found genocide funny, for some strange reason, so there's some natural balance there from the knuckle dragging huns.
Sports Illustrated in November wrote an article about Noises of Offense and how FIFA organized a 3 step procedure. It talked about how matches between the two teams would suspend games. Should either players, fans and referees wouldn't control racial tensions and/or reactions to how both teams played, all in all, two warnings would be issued. If tensions would continue, the referee would immediately STOP the match in full with penalties to both teams (Or, a higher penalty over points and fees to the teams causing/starting/continuing it.). It's an interesting article for many to read. Moving along to the commentary: While Beitar Jerusalem is the racists of racism no matter how you slice it, Lazio is THE most controversial team on your list. Mussolini supported and adored this team and hasn't stopped since. Cagliari should be part of it as well since they also chant against AC Milan not too long ago. Mexican teams have also been suspected against any Central American team- as well as the USA at times-chanting songs and slurs over penalty kicks. FC Barcelona on this list is just as mean minus the fireworks and riots. Not to mention, they've permitted last year via Copa Liberatores with both Boca Juniors and River Plate played IN Barcelona as part of a neutral zone instead of playing in Argentina. The result? Victory via River Plate and a South American Riot only one can see to believe. Cars being flipped, police with flares and water guns, even despite River Plate protesting to not play past native soil. While it is agreeable with most of the teams on the list, it is suggested that it requires a part two because of teams such as Cagliari and teams in Bulgaria and others in Eastern Europe. I suggest digging a little deeper because there's a lot more hatred in this subject than one might think.
Why shall be Cagliari on the List? You absolutely don't get the mentality of Sardinians. I learnt to know one: We are an Island, we have our own language, the only thing Milan or Roma want from us is our Taxes, Money, maybe Wine and the other time we are poor, idiotic shepherds for them. That's why we are Sards first, Italians second. Personal? I am a Munich guy. We say we are Bavarians first, Germans second. Slightly other language, because of the strong dialect, very regional traditions. Region first, Country second. Same like Cornwall in England, Bretagne in France. Sizilia, Catalan, Sards, Corse, part Creta... Union ain't for every Jack a Union. 😉
A clarification about the images in 0:19 and 0:25 More like a class struggle or castes, Santa Fe and Millonarios represents the origins of current Bogota's population: the first ones represents the "cachacos", a kind of "pure blood" bogotans whose families are born exclusively in Bogota and surroundings; the second ones represents the opposite side: the "inmigrants" from other colombian regions (like Medellin, Barranquilla, Cali, etc) who arrived to Bogota looking for the "bogotan dream" of being rich and prosperous in the capital or simply running away from the rural violence. Of course, with the years, that distinction becomes more and more diffuse since there is no more "cachacos" or people considering themselves like that in the "pure blood" sense and since the differences between those two teams are more sports-like than social. Even recently, Millonarios decided to become a symbol of "Bogotá for Bogotans", thus betraying their origins, when they face important teams from other regions, like Atlético Nacional, Junior de Barranquilla or América de Cali.
List of most corporate-related clubs in Europe - be it former works teams (PSV, etc.), clubs named after a large local employer (Bayer, etc.) or just teams that Red Bull took over and ripped the soul out of. Also, maybe a list of the clubs who are/were most artificially inflated above their "natural" level due to money - be it at a high level (e.g. Man City from a big, under-achieving club to a global mega brand) or the lower-level of small-town/village hobby clubs like Hoffenheim and Rushden & Diamonds.

The sort of heavily-politicized ultradom we see is an expression of revolt against the power, by the disempowered.

Moving along to the commentary:
While Beitar Jerusalem is the racists of racism no matter how you slice it, Lazio is THE most controversial team on your list.
That river vs boca match was in Madrid

A clarification about the images in 0:19 and 0:25
More like a class struggle or castes, Santa Fe and Millonarios represents the origins of current Bogota's population: the first ones represents the "cachacos", a kind of "pure blood" bogotans whose families are born exclusively in Bogota and surroundings; the second ones represents the opposite side: the "inmigrants" from other colombian regions (like Medellin, Barranquilla, Cali, etc) who arrived to Bogota looking for the "bogotan dream" of being rich and prosperous in the capital or simply running away from the rural violence.
The establishment is arguably left in the current political climate.
