7:39 This is so on on so many level. Catholic Church never had problem with Galileo Galilei's astronomical studies. Further more Catholic Church was PAYING him for his work as physicists. Problem was with Galileo's theological arguments. He was asked by bishop and future pope to stick with Copernicus approach and DO NOT write his own theology. In the first trial Church stated that Galileo's theories my be true, they won't be proclaimed as heretical, but Galileo cannot talk about them as a fact, but only a hypothesis, until it will be confirmed. What did Galileo? He wrote a paper where he considered this theory a fact, he call Pope an idiot and made theological arguments. I want remind you Galileo was on a Church payroll and current Pope actively promoting Galileo work when he was still cardinal. And he was sentenced for house arrest (but after 3 years of house arrest he was allowed to leave his villa), not for this theory but for disobeying and insulting the Church. Galileo was asked to focus on physics and maths, was payed by the Church, and do not make theological arguments until his theory was confirmed to be true (which was not, because he put Sun in the centre of Universe, while we know now that Universe has not centre, and Sun is orbiting a black hole; but he had the part that Earth orbits the Sun right). What he did? He insulted the Pope and got a slap on the wrist...

Alfie, as a Palace fan, would love to see you do a video upon the claim that Cystal Palace is actually the oldest football club still going... 1861 founding of the amature team and 1905 when the club became the club we know today
Would love to see a video on this! From my research, it looks like the 1861 Palace team stopped playing for a couple decades before the 1905 team was founded. Both were founded at the same location and with the same name tho lol, the original FA Cup co-founding Palace is definitely our club’s heritage. The problem comes, I think, in the claim that we’re the oldest club or oldest continuously running club. I don’t think we can claim that just bc of that big gap in the late 19th century. In my opinion our crest should include 1861 and 1905 on it tho. In any case I think Alfie could make a great video on this. It’s been ages since he’s done a Palace-specific video. COYP

First of all, Gallileo's theory was not proven true until 1850 by astronomers. Galileo was criticized for stating something was factual without absolute proof. Galileo's primitive telescope could not prove it and he was already wrong by stating that the moon's gravitational pull caused ocean waves, which we now know is absolutely false. The Church actually said Copernicus (a Catholic priest) and Galileo's theory was likely correct, but since it had not been proven at the time, it could not be called factual. Makes sense if you have a trully scientific mind and not anti-Catholic bigotry like the author of this video.
Everton were founded a methodist church , thus meaning both Liverpool clubs also come into this bracket. Goodsion being the only football stadium on earth with a church on its grounds ;)
Is right. Formed by the St. Domingo church on Netherfield Road. Changed name to Everton. Played originally on Priory Road, then Stanley Park, then Anfield. Was the first team to bring a major trophy back to Anfield (the Football League Trophy in 1891 in the third year of the league). The split came in 1892 when the Chairman, who was also the landlord, hiked the rent up considerably. Half the Board did not agree to pay, so found land on Mere Green and built Goodison Park and retained the name Everton, the others on the Board who stayed at Anfield founded that other club.
@@stephenmcloughlin7718 Religion didn't come into it. THIS was the reason why half the board said sod this for a game of soldiers!: 'The split came in 1892 when the Chairman, who was also the landlord, hiked the rent up considerably. @@Pokafalva , but the formation of the new Liverpool Club happened due to meetings at The Orange Lodge. That could be said to be a religious group. The Directors and the manager were members of the same Lodge.
@@stephenmcloughlin7718 The Masonic Order had been going for a couple of hundred years at the time. The fact that Everton used to have their meetings at The Sandon public house doesn't mean they were a pub team! The Chairman/Landlord and the board members would have been wealthy individuals and no doubt members of a Masonic Lodge. So they met at a particular venue, so what? It was not a religious venture, it was a hard-nosed decision to form a football club in the light of half the Board quitting and taking the name of 'Everton' with them to their new venue. And Chairman Houlding applied to continue with the name 'Everton' but that was refused by the football authorities. A name had to be given to Houlding's new club, hence the name Liverpool was chosen. It's very simple, and has jack-shit to do with religion.
No Ajax Amsterdam? Founded by Jews. To this day, the fans still sing Jewish songs, carry the Israeli flag and have tattoos of the Star of David on their bodies.
Real Madrid have cross on the top of their logo, Barcelona and AC Milan have big cross on their logo crest not sure if these clubs are founded by church as well
I'm not made that you made fun of the catholic church I'm mad that your got the context of what was said in 1992 incorrect. What was said was not about astrology but about wrongfully convicting a genius man, as his trial was most likely flawed. Most of Gallileo's completed work, including his criticism against the church, were allowed to circulate and got approval to be printed from the church.
I did watch your video on the team claiming to be Brazil playing in North Korea. What a joke it was pulled for the reasons you stated. Celtic are not and have never been a 'Catholic' club. They were formed by the local priest to give Irish immigrants a chance to play football as they were not allowed to play for any other city club. It is a club that has always been open for any player and supporter of any faith to play for or support. To suggest otherwise is to fall into the age old sectarian bilge. Cheers, a non catholic supporter of 55 years
@@andrewccochrane8052 Missing my point by miles. The club was born from the need of Glasgow’s Irish Catholic community so naturally its fan and player base would originate from that same pocket of society. However, the fact the club was born within one community didn’t mean it was closed to people from other backgrounds and despite early internal pressure to be an “all Catholic” Club, from its earliest days Celtic recruited players and attracted support from all walks of life. My point is that Celtic are wrongly known as a Catholic club, they are not. In contrast to this, Rangers’ links with Protestantism and unionism were developed through choice. Indeed some might argue that Rangers did not become a Protestant club but rather an anti-Catholic one. To address your comment though, Celtic's first non-Catholic signing was in fact 1890
My hometown football club was founded by a priest in 1914 using the club as a medium to attract the youth to the church and religion. The name of the club is Patronato de la Juventud Catolica (Patronage of the Catholic Youth)
So a quick look through our history shows in undeniable fact that our club has signed Catholics and that any myth or lies that our club is built on a ‘sectarian signing policy’ is exactly that, a lie and is very easily dismissed Those players include - Pat Lafferty 1886, Tom Dunbar 1891, Jay Tutty 1899, Archie Kyle 1904, Willie Kivlichan 1906, Colin Mainds 1906, Tom Murray 1907, William Brown 1912, Joe Donnachie 1914, John Jackson 1917. These are players only known openly in history, as religion was not as openly discussed as it is now, as being of the Catholic faith. However even at a glance quite a few players who were openly practicing Catholic and easily dispels the myth peddled by those with an agenda Moving on there is many more examples of players who starred for our club prior to the arrival of Maurice and these included - Laurie Blyth 1951, Don Kitchenbrand 1955, Hugh O’Neil 1976, John Spencer 1985 (Just three years before Johnstone’s arrival!) Of course since Johnston’s signing and the scrutiny of the media, introduction of social media the knowledge of players faiths is more open and discussed. In many ways the only issues and problems caused, seem to be by media and supporters of clubs outwith our own Players openly practice their faith in a Rangers jersey and it has not an issue inside Ibrox, the only people making it that way have nothing to do with the club. The recent coverage players such as Jon Daly has received only go to prove that The truth is always available and next time someone spouts rubbish about our club you can tell them how wrong they are This isn’t an apology for our culture or an attempt to distort history, it simply answers the question The history of our club is a beautiful and wonderful thing, four young lads founding one of the biggest clubs in the world for the love of football only They had a dream and now we are living it

One thing to point out, that you didn't, is that the 5 petaled rose often found a club football badges is a christian symbol that is usually associated with protestantism. Any club that has it is in all likelyhood founded by a protestant church or a non-protestant church in a mainly protestant country.
Do you mean the Luther rose? The Luther seal or Luther rose is a widely recognized symbol for Lutheranism. It was the seal that was designed for Martin Luther at the behest of John Frederick of Saxony in 1530, while Luther was staying at the Coburg Fortress during the Diet of Augsburg. Lazarus Spengler, to whom Luther wrote his interpretation below, sent Luther a drawing of this seal. Luther saw it as a compendium or expression of his theology and faith, which he used to authorize his correspondence. Luther informed Philipp Melanchthon on 15 September 1530, that the Prince had personally visited him in the Coburg fortress and presented him with a signet ring, presumably displaying the seal.[2]
That's actually a Hampshire rose, symbol of the county that Southampton is in. Well spotted though! Though I don't think there has ever been more than a token Lutheran presence in England

Yeah, had he developed right, he could have been the next Pele. But because he wasn't, Alexi Lalas remains the U.S.' best national player, if not for his playing ability, at least so for his distinct style. ;)
Nah, don't disrespect Pulisic, man. Freddy Adu was Anthony Bennett of US football.
Oooh a crazy christian jackass detected

In Vienna, Austria there is a whole league system run by the catholic church. It is only loosely associated with the regular football pyramid (if you win the cup you could theoretically play in the Europa League within 3 years).
The UK isn't regarded as a sovereign state by Fifa or Uefa at all. Rightly so.
COYP

How about cities with the most football teams I suppose London is likely going to be number 1 on that list but it would be interesting to see a top 10 list on this
Top 7*
surely Mexico City or Rio de Janeiro
Istanbul and Madrid are probably on there as well.
virtually ANY mega-city in countries where football is the dominant sport would be contenders for this
I think the opposite of the biggest one club cities would be more interesting. Are there any massive cities in the world with only one team? Almost all big cities have multiple clubs. The only decent ones I know in England are Leeds, Sunderland, Newcastle, Portsmouth & Southampton (and none are huge cities by global standards)
I'd assume Birmingham City as well since their ground is called 'St Andrews'
you will find most British football & Rugby clubs with 19th century roots all have very similar origin stories.

There were quite a few clues about Southampton’s religious links beforehand, but you still watch the video and go ‘oh yeahh’!
Liverpool was formed by members of a local Orange Lodge. The Directors and first manager were all members of the same Lodge.
@@stephenmcloughlin7718 Religion didn't come into it. THIS was the reason why half the board said sod this for a game of soldiers!: 'The split came in 1892 when the Chairman, who was also the landlord, hiked the rent up considerably. Simply proved himself to be a money-grabbing bad meff, and probably didn't expect to split the club, but rather expected to line his pockets even more...

I'm not made that you made fun of the catholic church I'm mad that your got the context of what was said in 1992 incorrect. What was said was not about astrology but about wrongfully convicting a genius man, as his trial was most likely flawed. Most of Gallileo's completed work, including his criticism against the church, were allowed to circulate and got approval to be printed from the church.

celtic have never had a protestant on there board.
Cheers, a non catholic supporter of 55 years
how wrong you are biotio not one protestant played for them until 1951

Already done
Looks great 😮😮😮
I thought you said you studied for this? Rangers didn’t end their sectarian policy until 1989. Just saying like🙄
So a quick look through our history shows in undeniable fact that our club has signed Catholics and that any myth or lies that our club is built on a ‘sectarian signing policy’ is exactly that, a lie and is very easily dismissed
Those players include -
Pat Lafferty 1886, Tom Dunbar 1891, Jay Tutty 1899, Archie Kyle 1904, Willie Kivlichan 1906, Colin Mainds 1906, Tom Murray 1907, William Brown 1912, Joe Donnachie 1914, John Jackson 1917.
These are players only known openly in history, as religion was not as openly discussed as it is now, as being of the Catholic faith. However even at a glance quite a few players who were openly practicing Catholic and easily dispels the myth peddled by those with an agenda
Moving on there is many more examples of players who starred for our club prior to the arrival of Maurice and these included -
Laurie Blyth 1951, Don Kitchenbrand 1955, Hugh O’Neil 1976, John Spencer 1985 (Just three years before Johnstone’s arrival!)
Of course since Johnston’s signing and the scrutiny of the media, introduction of social media the knowledge of players faiths is more open and discussed. In many ways the only issues and problems caused, seem to be by media and supporters of clubs outwith our own
Players openly practice their faith in a Rangers jersey and it has not an issue inside Ibrox, the only people making it that way have nothing to do with the club. The recent coverage players such as Jon Daly has received only go to prove that
The truth is always available and next time someone spouts rubbish about our club you can tell them how wrong they are
This isn’t an apology for our culture or an attempt to distort history, it simply answers the question
The history of our club is a beautiful and wonderful thing, four young lads founding one of the biggest clubs in the world for the love of football only
They had a dream and now we are living it
