  • Our original fabric gaming chair cleaning guide had too many steps. Besides taking too long, the results only last a month or so before seeing new stains. Our NEW AND IMPROVED cleaning guide fixes these issues.
    A full cleaning takes less than 10 minutes, and the results last longer. When mild stains appear 3-4 months later, do another quick cleaning.

      If the towel sop-up method doesn't work for you, the ONLY other option is a wet-dry vac like the Bissell Little Green ($120+ on Amazon) amzn.to/42MFypz.
      But I've done several cleanings on mine using the towel method - after 2 years of full-time use, my chair still looks like new. So I've no reason to spend the extra cash for a wet-dry vac.

    • @chairsfx

      Hi, I've done a few full cleanings with plenty of (bottled) water involved. Never tried using tap water. In any case, most gaming chair fabrics (and synthetic sofa fabrics) are made from synthetic polyester. These are plastic fibers heated, stretched, and woven into cloth.
      It's a similar material to poly-cotton polo shirts. If water cleanings are leaving stains in the fabric, I suggest checking your water. Do washings leave stains in other polyester fabrics? What chair are you using?

    • @quizzicalex

      I'm in a similar situation as you: my chair will soon need another cleaning. Should I struggle through that effort, or cover the stains with a flashy $300 Secretlab skin?
      IMO, self-cleaning is the better option. Once you get the stains out, it's like having a brand new chair - without paying an extra $300!

      I find from cleaning my car seats which is basically the same, if you only clean a patch it can leave water stains but if you clean the entire seat there will be no stain because the stain just leaves a ring and shows a dif colour on the parts that have been left untouched, so just clean the whole thing instead of a patch

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  7 месяцев назад

      Hi, I think it depends on the model. Something like the Bissell SteamShot Deluxe only treats the surface, without any way to pull out deep dirt. I don't think that could ever beat a wet-dry vac performance.

    do the black parts which are not made of fabric have to be rubbed with the green sponge, there is no risk of scratching or wearing them?

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  Год назад

      I've never tried scrubbing the black suede trim. Those parts are rarely in contact with your skin, so there's not much oil buildup there. I suggest only wiping those parts with a damp cloth - it doesn't feel as indestructible as the fabric.

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  Год назад

      Never tried using alcohol, but would not be surprised if it leaves a stain! Water and generic (non-bleach) detergents are fine. Some chemical spot-stain removers also work.
      If the alcohol left a stain, try using a fabric stain remover spray (you can find these in all supermarkets).

    Would you recommend putting baking soda and then doing these steps? Or are these steps enough

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  2 года назад +3

      If you haven't cleaned your chair in a year or more, doing the baking soda part is worth it for deoderization. If you smoke, have pets, or sweat a lot, a year's worth of buildup will definitely stink.
      Otherwise, I'd consider the baking soda part optional. It's worth doing it BEFORE the laundry detergent/scrubbing pad part, since it also breaks up dirt particles in the fabric. That will make the scrubbing part a bit more effective at removing dirt.

    hello! I was wondering if the fabric detergent has to be powder based? Are liquid laundry detergents too harsh?

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  2 года назад +2

      Hi, I've never tried liquid detergents. If you can't access any powdered types, I suggest trying liquid on a small patch on the rear of the seat.
      Make sure it doesn't discolor the fabric (unlikely unless it has bleach). Also make sure it doesn't leave tons of suds in the fabric. With powdered detergents mixed with water, it's easy to sop up with a damp towel. That leaves no suds or soapiness behind.

    is this safe? and how often do you clean the chair?

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  2 года назад +6

      Good question! Since I shot this video, (1.5 months ago), I've done one quick spot-cleaning on the seat (for a photo shoot). Right now, my chair looks 95%. I'm guessing it may need another deep clean 2-3 months later.
      Is it safe? --> In my experience, yes! Super-hard scrubbing will NOT fray the fabric. Generic laundry detergent will NOT discolor it.
      My earlier method used chemical fabric stain removers. Those worked - but stains would come back faster and stronger after 1 month! In comparison, a good scrub with some laundry detergent seems to clean just as well. It also seems to prevent stain buildup a lot better.
      how often do you clean the chair?--> I guess you'll need to do a good scrub every 3-4 months. I'll post an update once my chair gets stained enough to need another full cleaning.

    I've got a question that nested itself into my mind after reading something yesterday. How bad are smells? I've got some food intolerances and that usually leads to some gas and so far I've been on fake leather chairs that started peeling after two/three years so I wanted to switch and I've never had any smell issues there

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  Год назад +2

      If you let the stains build up on a fabric chair for too long, I imagine it will start to smell sour, like a pair of jeans unwashed for 6 months. But since the buildup is gradual, daily users may not even notice - until visitors arrive to point out the stink.
      The easy solution is to monitor your chair using the 'eye' test. Once stains emerge (usually after 6-ish months of full-time use), stinkiness will soon follow. Then, a scouring pad + detergent cleaning method comes in very handy.

      I've not tried Oxy Clean. But based on the product description I GUESS it will be fine. To make sure, you can scrub clean one of the rear side seat panels as a test. Once you confirm Oxy Clean + water + scrubbing pad = no discoloration, apply it to the rest of the chair.

    Does it have to be powder laundry detergent or can it be liquid too

    • @chairsfx
      @chairsfx  2 года назад +1

      Hi, liquid detergents will likely do the same job as powders. To be on the safe side, I suggest trying it on spot on the back of the chair. Scrub it in, then wash it out with a damp towel, and let it dry. A liquid containing blech may discolor the fabric. Non-bleach versions should clean chair fabrics as well as they do clothing. Good luck!
