I remember when I first heard this song. I thought it was a sad, but beautiful tribute to his family. Now in 2023 I'm watching my grandfather die from dementia. I'm watching him not miss us, not know us, he is a shell of what he once was. I wish I could take it away, I wish I could make him remember. I wish I could be a kid for one more day. He was like my dad. He helped raise me. I don't want to do this.

Just found this yesterday. This was the last session Joe Osborn and Hal Blaine and Glenn Campbell did together. Friends for over 50 years. That's my father playing the bass. Sad to watch, but good to see them together. Those three men, and Glenn made a massive contribution to the fabric of American music, and inspired the world.
The song took the grammy for best country song.

Yes, Joe Osborn is my father. As you probably know, he died December 14, 2018. He was my best friend and I miss him terribly. Hal Blaine passed 3 months later. They are a big part of why the '60s sound the way they sound. I was fortunate to see them work together on hundreds of recordings.

That is very neat to find videos of your dad playing over the years. I randomly stumbled upon Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman” a day before his 3 year death anniversary, and then over the weekend progressed to learn about The Wrecking Crew. 5 years ago I wouldn’t have really liked this music but suddenly I can’t get enough it. I’m going to look up what else Joe Osborn is known for.

We see artists as "bigger than life" but this shows us that some are real people with souls no different from us. I should have tried then to meet you Glen, I'm sorry. I hope you'll take a raincheck. My friend is a late in life son of a lovely couple. My friend's widowed father had to be in a residential care facility when his dementia progressed significantly. My friend visited his father often at that facility. He would come home depressed and tell his wife: "Dad doesn't even know who I am when I visit him. But he seems to be happy to meet me as a stranger". His wife told him to look at his dad's affliction from a different perspective. "Dad is happy to meet 'new people" every time we go to see him".

My wife had an aunt that had dementia. We would go visit her and she would remember us and we would go away for a few minutes to talk with the nurses. We would come back and she remembered who we were but not that we saw her 10 minutes earlier. You have to accept this and play along.

It took my father about 8 years to die from early onset dementia which hit him around age 60. It's the most tragic, horrible, agonizing way to see someone go. You lose them in fits and starts and before you know it the person you knew and loved and who raised you is gone. And they don't even know the pain it's causing everyone around them. I heard this song today for the first time and it brought it all back. Ooof...

I grew up loving Glen's songs and played them for my children too. I am very touched by what the family has shared and this song broke my heart - there needs to be more awareness about what this disease does to families and those suffering. As a caregiver to people who are struggling with this and having had my own family members afflicted I appreciate very much what the family has shared. God Bless you all

But after hearing his last album and watching the powerful documentary, I just feel sorry for him. and his family. And, sadly, this is how I will remember him . A far cry from his collaborations with Jimmy Webb and his starring in True Grit. God bless the Campbell family.

My dad raised me listening to Glen Campbell. My dad will never know how much I admired him growing up. While he is still living I mourn for his love. He does not have this horrible disease but the words are true about him. He doesn't miss me in his life. He doesn't respond to the pain that he has caused me. I live across town and he doesn't miss me when I am here waiting on his love. He has no idea what I am going through.. Selfishly he does not miss me.. To those that have to go through this horrible disease with a family member please forgive me for shining a light on my pain...May God grant you the strength to get through this and may you know that they loved you until their memory took them away.. Take comfort in knowing that... You are loved, rejoice...

I cared for both my mom and dad who had this terrible, terrible disease. 24/7/365 for six years. Dad went quickly while mom lingered. But both had it at the same time. To this day (12 years after mom died) this is all I can say about it. All of the evil that is this disease and everything that comes with it will be with me forever. I had to be there for them. Period.
Here's a story from the 60s that I posted on another channel that had reviewed the song _Galveston._
I grew up listening to the labors of The Wrecking Crew. And I can remember when Glen Campbell broke out in his solo career. Try to imagine that back then there was the British invasion going on. Every week there seemed to be something new, something moving goal posts. Too, that most of us only heard this stuff on pocket transistor radios, crappy tabletop and alarm clock radios and car radios that were barely better but diminished by all of the sounds of driving. So, when Glen went off on his solo career, to me at least, it was just OK.
One day in 1967 my oldest brother came back to the states for a visit. He is a captain merchant seaman. He gave dad a 2 track sound-on-sound stereo reel to reel tape machine.
My dad used to play guitar. I remember, as a little shaver, him singing "You Are My Sunshine" to me while I sat on his knee. Man, did I soak up those lyrics that my dad sang just for me.
Anyways, my dad disappeared that night. No one knew where he was. About an hour later he shows up with all this stuff. Two 8 inch cabinet speakers, two microphones, headphones, an empty reel and two reel to reel prerecorded albums. One of Glen Campbell's 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix' and the other Herb Alpert an the Tijuana Brass' 'A Taste Of Honey.' He put it all together and cued up Campbell.
Oh... My... god. The first song being 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix.' The first thing that blew my mind was the true dead sound. Sound that emanated from nothingness. No clicks, pops, hiss, fading in and out, channel bleed over, hum or some jerk jokey talking over the song. Nothing. Just glorious dead sound that really isn't sound. It must have been the same feeling that guy got when he discovered the number "zero." Discovering that to which all things come after. That, to which, will change the world.
Then, the dynamics of the sound itself. It is a true thrill to hear studio recorded stereo in analog on a reel to reel analog stereo for the first time. And that song was presented as intended. Which, all things considered, was the best song I ever heard. Oh, and when I put on the headphones IT WAS EVEN BETTER!
Of course, it ruined my appreciation for all music except for what was on those two tapes. I often thought how different those popular songs, and some I didn't like, that were murdered on AM radio and the junk sold to us so we could listen, would sound on reel to reel. I knew how much I was missing and there was nothing I could do about it.
Naturally I told my friends how great Glen Campbell's new album was. They all thought I was square and crazy. And I told them how great 'A Taste Of Honey' was. From then on, I think they let me hang out with them out of pity - for old times sake. But I knew better... I became a musician because of Glen Campbell and 'You Are My Sunshine.' Oh, how I miss my dad. 'Everything I own' By Bread.
So, there's a story that can be added to Glen Campbell's legacy. As insignificant it is to everyone. Except, of course, to me.
    Thanks, Mr. Campbell.

I recorded the documentary called I'll be me a while ago.. because i love Glen Campbell...its taken me a while to watch it because I looked after my mom for 7 yrs with alzheimer's.. you see the individual..but you know its not them inside..can they hear you when you tell them you love them and that it'll be om ? we don't know what goes on in their head...it was very hard..but I'd do it in a heartbeat so to see this great man slowly disintegrate before your eyes was heartbreaking..but how wonderful was it when he was on stage and he belted out those songs with that golden voice of his and when he played duelling banjo's with his daughter Ashley.. so sad he's gone..but he is free from this awful disease now and serenading the good Lord.. but god look at the wonderful songs he leaves us with..We're gonna miss YOU... how to pick a favourite..sooo many to choose from.. i love By the time I get to Phoenix because of the emotions of his voice..but ive gotta go with Wichita Lineman because it was my wonderful dads favourite.. so every time I hear it I think of him and shed a tear as i am doing now ..🇬🇧🙏😥💞😍💔

I watched the CNN.s special on Glen Campbell and was inspired and brought to tears. Never being much of a fan I realized that his music actually was a soundtrack of my life. memories of my entire life. The love and grace in which he and his family deal with the horror that is altzheimer's is so loving and compasionate. As we baby boomers age, it is a disease that will affect many of us.My Father in Law suffered from Altzheimers and I believe my husband was showing early onset symptoms.
For those that are dealing with it in their families, please watch this for strength and comfort.

Such a beautiful yet tragic song. Can’t listen to it without crying.
