Just found this yesterday. This was the last session Joe Osborn and Hal Blaine and Glenn Campbell did together. Friends for over 50 years. That's my father playing the bass. Sad to watch, but good to see them together. Those three men, and Glenn made a massive contribution to the fabric of American music, and inspired the world. The song took the grammy for best country song.
@Random Music Stuff Yes, Joe Osborn is my father. As you probably know, he died December 14, 2018. He was my best friend and I miss him terribly. Hal Blaine passed 3 months later. They are a big part of why the '60s sound the way they sound. I was fortunate to see them work together on hundreds of recordings.
That is very neat to find videos of your dad playing over the years. I randomly stumbled upon Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman” a day before his 3 year death anniversary, and then over the weekend progressed to learn about The Wrecking Crew. 5 years ago I wouldn’t have really liked this music but suddenly I can’t get enough it. I’m going to look up what else Joe Osborn is known for.

He was like my dad. He helped raise me. I don't want to do this.
True. I cry like a baby every time I hear it Losing a loved one over and over every day is hard, the last time you lose them has to be the hardest, but losing them daily is hard on the heart.
I have not, but I cannot listen to this song without crying. That's the value of art, and Glen is a true artist and has transferred this pain beautifully in song. I hope I never experience it in my family. Bless you that have, my heart breaks for you.
I have never had a loved one who suffered with Alzheimers - but this song is incredibly sad for anyone who understands the meaning. And so sad for Glen.
No matter how many times ai hear this song, its heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Thank you Glen Campbell for putting this disease into words.
My friend is a late in life son of a lovely couple. My friend's widowed father had to be in a residential care facility when his dementia progressed significantly. My friend visited his father often at that facility. He would come home depressed and tell his wife: "Dad doesn't even know who I am when I visit him. But he seems to be happy to meet me as a stranger". His wife told him to look at his dad's affliction from a different perspective. "Dad is happy to meet 'new people" every time we go to see him".
My wife had an aunt that had dementia. We would go visit her and she would remember us and we would go away for a few minutes to talk with the nurses. We would come back and she remembered who we were but not that we saw her 10 minutes earlier. You have to accept this and play along.

What a terrific song!!! I once asked a musician friend of mine who his favorite guitar player was and without hesitation he said “Glen Campbell”. Until I began running across his videos on RUclips I never knew how truly talented he was. And I had heard of the Wrecking Crew, just not the fact that Glen was a part of it. Many thanks to the family for sharing the intimate moments that add to the heartfelt emotion in this song. RIP Mr. Campbell.
I listen to this a few times a day and am not sure why. It is a brutally honest song from a man to his wife about what the end of life is really like as we do not live forever. I have loved Glen Campbell for a long time for his amazing guitar skills and lyrics from his classic songs. I think that it makes me think each day to be a better man, friend, father and husband. It also reminds me of what I need to do to make sure my family knows I love them and what I need to do to make sure they are ready for that sad day that is coming for all of us. Thanks Glen and also the Wrecking Crew. Amazing song.
This song really touches my heart. I work in a nursing home, I see every single day what the residents with dementia and their families go through. Some days are better then others for them. There are days where they do remember their families and friends but other days they don’t remember them.
Glen is in heaven with the Lord. His family will someday follow and there will be no tears and no missing of anyone....only God's presence and also that of everyone who was loved by him and who loved him as well.
As an Irish Bass player all my life I hold this Man up as one of the greatest ever Guitarists. A true genius in writing, playing and lyrics however, I find His bravery in bringing the worlds attention to His sickness and the way it effects the patient, Family, Friends and carers is worth a Sainthood. RIP Glen with the odd solo ! Sláinte, John McGuire (Cork, Ireland)
My grandpa was a korean war veteran. He fought till the end. I wish you were here to see how much the family needs you. We all fell apart when you died. You were the roots to our family. Love you grandpa
Yes, it's difficult. Pray for strength to carry on, Our Lord is with you always. Be thankful for the years he was there teaching you the whole time to be strong and have that fight till the end attitude.
My sweet precious husband of 45 years has the early signs of dementia. We just listened to this song together and wept. He is the one who says to me, “I missed you”, if I am away from him. It’s a terrible disease to watch progress.
AGING LOVED ONES Watching some one you love disappear right in front of your eyes is never an easy thing to experience. Love calls us to be present with them though, even as the fog of memory loss thickens to the point the person you know and love becomes harder and harder to see. My Fathers memory and periodic moments of disorientation seem to be getting worse and I have felt helpless. Today in church we sang a song entitled “All I have” the opening lines go like this: What have I, in this life But the love, In your eyes This empty world, will one day fade Only your truth, will remain Jesus all I have is you You’re the hope I’m holding to I might weep but still my faith Rests in you Those words really hit home and brought me comfort. As calendars gradually begin to look like BINGO cards to my father, the calming presence of Jesus Christ can be that one thing that remains constant. Quieting confusion the way a sandy beach takes a crashing wave and allows it to come to a rest. The song continues to say: As the Heavens hold the sky It’s your hand that holds my life And your love will lead me on When all else is gone….. When all else is gone Lord, whether it be our physical or mental capacities or just hope in general help us to remember your love will never fade. Deuteronomy 31:8 And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” GOD BLESS Rob H 11/24/14

If you're a die hard GC fan, the Glen Campbell Museum in Nashville is definitely worth checking out. All of his awards, his gold and platinum records, guitars, letters, clothes, etc. It's a great experience.
I came across this song a few days ago. I will be watching a movie then suddenly I feel like listening to the song again, so I go back to RUclips. Can’t get enough of Glen Campbell. …..what a great musician.
I have seen a lot of music videos in my 50+ years, but this one got to me the most, by far..... Man this made me cry, and that doesn't happen soon for me.
I saw Glen Campbell and Andy Williams perform in Branson back in June of 2006 at the Andy Williams Theater before Glen was diagnosed with alzheimer's. They put on a heck of a show. He sure is missed. We can't replace Glen Campbell but we can remember him as a good singer.
This song was so sad when I first heard it, but it's even more so now. My mother in law has dementia and we see here going down by the day. We dread the day when she no longer remembers us. This song has even more poignancy now. God bless all who is dealing with this disease and the families left devastated by it.

He does not have this horrible disease but the words are true about him. He doesn't miss me in his life. He doesn't respond to the pain that he has caused me. Many thanks to the family for sharing the intimate moments that add to the heartfelt emotion in this song. RIP Mr. Campbell.
Yes Glen Campbell was one of the best guitar players in the world. But he seems to be frequently overlooked
You do live forever. You were created eternal. Not immortal.
This song really touches my heart. I work in a nursing home, I see every single day what the residents with dementia and their families go through. Some days are better then others for them. There are days where they do remember their families and friends but other days they don’t remember them.
Hello Kayleen how are you doing today???
@@jamesmarc6844ciao James!🙋😊😍😘🍀🌅
What a beautiful retrospective of Glen's life! From these clips, it looks like he led the perfect life.
My husband passed the same way and I cry every time I listen to this I miss him so much but the song is so true my heart goes out to glen’s family ❤
Hey how are you doing today??
My grandpa was a korean war veteran. He fought till the end. I wish you were here to see how much the family needs you. We all fell apart when you died. You were the roots to our family. Love you grandpa
My Dad was Korean War veteran. But, don't give up, as far as your family. Your Grandfather would want you all to stay together.
Yes, it's difficult. Pray for strength to carry on, Our Lord is with you always. Be thankful for the years he was there teaching you the whole time to be strong and have that fight till the end attitude.
I took care of the elderly for 35 years and it’s gut wrenching to see the mind deteriorating , the family members suffer terribly.😪
Hello how are you doing...?
Great thanks for asking. 🙏🏻
@@theresafox2816 Nice meeting you here where are you originally from?
Hi Theresa, how are you doing
My sweet precious husband of 45 years has the early signs of dementia. We just listened to this song together and wept.
He is the one who says to me, “I missed you”, if I am away from him. It’s a terrible disease to watch progress.
AGING LOVED ONES
Watching some one you love disappear right in front of your eyes is never an easy thing to experience. Love calls us to be present with them though, even as the fog of memory loss thickens to the point the person you know and love becomes harder and harder to see.
My Fathers memory and periodic moments of disorientation seem to be getting worse and I have felt helpless.
Today in church we sang a song entitled “All I have” the opening lines go like this:
What have I, in this life
But the love, In your eyes
This empty world, will one day fade
Only your truth, will remain
Jesus all I have is you
You’re the hope I’m holding to
I might weep but still my faith
Rests in you
Those words really hit home and brought me comfort. As calendars gradually begin to look like BINGO cards to my father, the calming presence of Jesus Christ can be that one thing that remains constant. Quieting confusion the way a sandy beach takes a crashing wave and allows it to come to a rest.
The song continues to say:
As the Heavens hold the sky
It’s your hand that holds my life
And your love will lead me on
When all else is gone…..
When all else is gone Lord, whether it be our physical or mental capacities or just hope in general help us to remember your love will never fade.
Deuteronomy 31:8
And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
GOD BLESS

As someone whose Mother-in-law is afflicted with Dementia, this song really hits home as I watch my wife, her brother and the rest of the family deal with this disease. Thank you Glen for all of your songs, but especially for this one that puts this horrible disease in to words and music.
His fans sure do miss him.
Hey how are you doing...?
Hi Susan, how are you doing?
Reminds me so much of my dad. Same lost vacant look. It's heartbreaking, but God brought me home to help my mom care for my dad. It was an honor to be here for him in his last days.
THIS SONG/LYRICS ARE SOOOOOOO SAD! BUT THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG….❤. makes me tear up every tyme…RIP GLEN! THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BEAUTIFUL SONGS YOU LEFT US WITH! (BUT, WE ARE GOING TO MISS YOU!!❤️❤️)

Wow. Goes right through me. What a lovely gift left behind. Such a tragic loss. Bless you for leaving such an awesome memory.
Hello how are you doing?
Hi Becky, how are you doing?
Writing and performing this song at this stage in his life can only be described as profound.
We were all lucky just to be living around this time to see Glen Campbell in his prime and then to go out like he did on his own terms.
My dad died from This awful disease. My god it ripped my heart out. Glen Campbell was one of his favorites.
My dad passed away 6 months ago the same way. I feel your pain, hope you’re ok.
If you're a die hard GC fan, the Glen Campbell Museum in Nashville is definitely worth checking out. All of his awards, his gold and platinum records, guitars, letters, clothes, etc. It's a great experience.
One of the most touching songs I have ever heard. A great man who WILL be missed when he passes on. Watch his documentary on 6-28-2015.

I came across this song a few days ago. I will be watching a movie then suddenly I feel like listening to the song again, so I go back to RUclips. Can’t get enough of Glen Campbell. …..what a great musician.
It's a gut punch every damn time.
Such a beautiful yet tragic song. Can’t listen to it without crying.
Such a brave and selfless project for his family to share with the world. Campbell was obviously loved and cherished. We miss him.

I hope that 3 years later you have been able to give it a place in your heart. My dad had prostate cancer and I suddenly realised that I would maybe never see him again... he survived and is still with me today but I can now imagine the unimaginable pain and emptyness. I hope you're ok Melanie :*

Just listened to this song for the 1st time, and it made me cry. It's deeply personal, being that my mom has Alzheimer's, and I'm grieving the loss of the person I used to know. I'm so sad that Glen Campbell had this disease also. I will always carry his beautiful music in my ❤...Thank you for the music & memories!
Even though Glen has gotten some age on him he still has an amazing singing voice.
I've heard that his guitar ability stayed to the very end, too. One of the greatest guitarists that every lived.
No joke, I think most people fail to realize how profoundly sad this song is.
I lost my mom to Alzheimers in 2008...my wife was killed riding her Harley in 2012.....l feel the pain everyday...RIP my loves...
It's so beautiful, but painfully true at that same time.
I don't think that's a true or fair statement. Those who know Glen; know of all his pains an especially towards the end of his life. So very sad to see him looking from a distance an not know what is happening. Terrible Disease I love you Glen. I am GONNA MISS YOU!! I DO.

I got meet his daughter the other night, Ashley Campbell. She looks so much like he did.. and her voice is amazing.. sings so beautiful just like her dad did. He was definitely, one of the GREATEST of all!
My dear sweet Mother that will always remain 'Gentle on My Mind' drew her last breath a month ago 03.16.2016. Alzheimer's turned her world and our family's into a hellish nightmare. This is my favorite Glen Campbell song ever. It’s gorgeous, poignant, heart-breaking, and inspiring.
This shit makes me cry for real!!!!! A man who knows he isnt what he was, And wants one more time to say what he feels
My dad raised me listening to Glen Campbell. My dad will never know how much I admired him growing up. While he is still living I mourn for his love. He does not have this horrible disease but the words are true about him. He doesn't miss me in his life. He doesn't respond to the pain that he has caused me. I live across town and he doesn't miss me when I am here waiting on his love. He has no idea what I am going through.. Selfishly he does not miss me.. To those that have to go through this horrible disease with a family member please forgive me for shining a light on my pain...May God grant you the strength to get through this and may you know that they loved you until their memory took them away.. Take comfort in knowing that... You are loved, rejoice...

2021: I'm 67 and I listen to all kinds of music. I know the Wrecking Crew through my fave group the Beach Boys. What a bunch of awesome musicians! The past year I've been listening to Gentle on my mind - a LOT! There are videos with Glen performing with and giving credit to the composer, John Hartford, just amazing. And one with a terrific guitar solo. And I get tears in my eyes every time. Just found this beautiful video and song!! Incredible. More tears... Sounds like John Lennon. This is not country per se. But a beautiful ballad that everybody should hear! A number One!! Thank you Glen, John, your family, the Wrecking Crew and everybody else, helping the world become a better place... 💯♥️🎵🎶 Glen we sure miss you...

This song is incredibly touching. I can relate with so much of it because my dad has dementia and has declined so much in just the last couple months. :'(
Kelly, at least you have your memories. He still loves you.
+Krusty Bikers Yes, I do. I think in some ways he is able to communicate his love better now than he would before. He wasn't a very demonstrative man, but now he has nothing to hide behind. He doesn't always know which daughter that I am, but I think that he knows that I am one of his girls. :)
Kelly Pruitt some dads find difficulty showing emotion, only in later life do they understand the importance of a hug or a kind word. I'm sure I missed my fair share with my kids. We can all be too busy earning a living to stop and enjoy the important things.
