Often referred to as the 6th Beach Boy, member of the Wrecking Crew (the ultimate studio sessions back up band for damn near all 60s bands of note.....) The reason he was so accomplished as a guitar player is because he was true to himself. Alot of rockers wanted to be " rock and roll stars". Glenn Campbell endeavored to be an accomplished musician. He was about the music, not the fleeting fame and fortune of the music industry.
I knew that I recognized him. I had to pause the video and figure it out ( I did ). The older I get the more things fall out of my brain. I guess it's overloaded and needs to make room for more. Great video! Thanks.

Indeed he could play anything.. When Glenn died, the great jazz virtuoso, Jimmy Bruno shared an anecdote about seeing him playing "Cherokee" with Roy Clark on some session in LA back in the 70's.. Jimmy Bruno is one of the greatest players in the world and he said he'd never seen such chops as what Glenn and Roy displayed that day.. Ha! Cool.

My wife and I saw Glen in Marksville, La. at the start of his farewell tour. I was struck by the fact that, despite numerous mid song pauses when he forgot lyrics, his guitar playing was flawless. I understand that until his death, he never lost his picking skills. His band that night included his daughter. When his memory failed he looked at his daughter and she came to his mike and sang the words until he picked the lyrics back up. It was by far my most emotional concert experience!
One of the finest session guitarists of all time. Great singer too. A wonderful interpreter of a master songwriter, Jimmy Webb. Wichita Lineman just a beautiful song.
The Album that first struck me of Glen Campbell's Awesome Guitar Playing was the 1965 Album "Dylan Jazz" by the Gene Norman Group. Here, Hear, Glen PLAYS!!
One of my heroes. The first record I ever bought was a 45 of "Witchita Lineman", with pocket money I saved up picking up empty soda bottles on my way walking back and forth to our local town center. I was 7 years old and was mesmerized and fascinated by the beauty and melancholy sound of WL coming out of the radio. Then Gentle On My Mind, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, True Grit, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, Southern Nights and Rhinestone Cowboy. This was a rather guilty, secret pleasure as all of my friends were listening to The Beatles, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Allman Brothers and Skynyrd. I finally got to see him live in concert at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth in 1983. I stood right down in front, as close as I could get (which was practically face to face). One of the unforgettable live music moments of my life and I actually got to shake his hand and say hello after the show. Something about his humble, aw shucks, "watch this " personality was so endearing to me, not to mention his legendary status and reputation as one of greatest performers of our era. I still listen to Witchita Lineman at least once a week and it still moves me everytime, just like the seven year old kid that bought that record so long ago.
Alice Cooper had become one of Glenn's closest friends and golfing buddies. He made a eulogy video which was very touching. And in it he told of the time when Eddie Van Halen asked Alice to ask Glenn if he could have a guitar lesson. Your description of the tapping during a concert might not have been such a surprise.
I saw Glen, on tour twice, But my biggest treasure was his LIVE Album in New Jersey ,in 1972 . I bought the album ,played it till the needle wore off . lol I had it put on CD and still listen to it today. Thanks Glen for all your music . RIP
As you say Glen could play anything, I am also a guitarist and have only relatively recently become aware of what a shredder he was. His jazz guitar playing was also 2nd to none. He is truly amazing. RIP

I saw Glenn live 13 times in Branson, Missouri. It was the best show in Branson. He could really amaze us with his guitar playing and I can’t believe he is not in the rock and roll hall of fame.
Glen Campbell had the gift where he could think a guitar riff and without hesitation play what he thought. Most have to practice through trial and error. I think Jimi Hendrix and Clarence White also had this amazing gift. Maybe all those years of session work reinforced this gift.

I was at the Arizona State Fair in 1966 where Glen was performing with his band. While playing a song one of his guitar strings broke. The audience gasped. The band stopped playing. He stopped playing, looked at the sky for about 4 seconds, turned to his band members and said, "Key of ..." and they continued playing in harmony in spite of his broken spring. We gave them a standing ovation.
Glenn Campbell is the reason I play guitar to this day. Glenn and Roy Clark were two master class players but it was Glenn just playing and singing with the acoustic guitar that made me say hell yeah I want to do that. Musician, singer, actor…despite all his fame and awards, I still think he’s very under appreciated. I love learning about his Wrecking Crew days, and wish there was more video of those sessions.
@@gregoryclemen1870an even bigger shame is the records of all those dates are so minimal that you can truly only go on their word for a lot of those times, and sadly they are all slowly passing on. I hope that more session recordings come out telling bigger stories about those days! Still so many holes in those stores and as great of a job that Denny Tedesco did on the doc, there will always be those who told different stories.
Glen Campbell defentily had a style sll his own. I regard him as the best of the best . He was incredible he could do it all . And a singer as well, I have no doubt he could have played any setting with anybody. If heaven has a band, there is no doubt Glen will be the star.
I started listening to him in the mid- 70's and I have never stopped - His guitar and his voice rank him among the greatest musicians in modern times - and his personality was unsurpassed - I miss his presence, but I know he's in a better place !!!
He's always been a favorite of mine since I was a young kid 40+ years ago. He recorded "The William Tell Overture", AKA the "Lone Ranger" theme back in the late 70s as a B side to Southern Nights. There's a video of him here on RUclips playing it in concert. If you've never seen it, it's well worth the time. He went all Jimi Hendrix with the guitar solo. 😄
BIG fan of Glen Campbell. He was SO under-rated it wasn't even funny! Got to see him, and meet him because of my Grandfather driving him in a limousine. The show was amazing, and so was he! what a kind man he was. Not at all "Hollywood" like a lot of stars you might meet. Very humble! Thanked us for coming out, more than once! Autographed a few things for me & my girlfriend at the time. Only got to see him that one time, back in the 80's. But I will never forget it! Another great video here man, thank you!
I had the pleasure of hearing Glen live in Dublin Ireland in the early 70s. At one poing half way through a tune he walked off stage and came back a few seconds later playing the bagpipes. I loved his singing and he could do anything on guitar.
I've played guitar for 45 years - professionally for 25. One of my biggest influences was Glen. My dad, also a musician, owned an excellent record collection from the time I was born, including several Glen Campbell albums. So I got an education in his talent from a very young age. Glen was an absolute master. And he also had a great voice and was handsome, too. Total package. No wonder he was so successful. Thanks for this video. I enjoyed it a lot.
Glen Campbell is the greatest singer/guitarist ever recorded. This man was simply on a whole higher level. That's as simple as I can put it. He absolutely should be in the rock Hall of Fame no questions asked.
The thing that most people don't point out is that Glen had a TV show for a while and he would have the most amazing musicians/singers on to play live. No back up tracks, no "Lip sync" truly some great live performances ans Many times he would jam with them and create real music magic. Amazing musician and singer and a big hearted guy.
He was so talented and versatile. You are right, his guitar playing was phenomenal, as well as Roy Clark's. I'm a classic rock and roll fan, but I love many genres because of Glenn Campbell. Rest in Peace, Glenn.
I saw him and his family , on his farewell tour at The Hanover Theatre in Worcester Massachusetts . He was still Shreddin’ his Guitar! A show I’ll never forget ! In my 1969 Yearbook Wichita Lineman was my favorite song !
I love Glen Campbell. His music was a big part of my adolescent years. I think I first loved him because he and my Uncle Paul look so much alike! There hasn’t been a time in my life that hearing a Glen Campbell song hasn’t evoked a wonderful memory❤️
I've been informing music fans of all genres Glen Campbell is a GIFTED MUSICIAN!! Wayne Newton, is another who plays over 30 instruments competently. Incredible RIP Mr. Campbell Your influence will be enjoyed by music enthusiasts for generations. Cruzer In CT
Yes Glen Campbell was no doubt in the top two best Guitarist ever to strap on a Guitar. He was so natural at it like it was a part of his body and soul. I was to young to appreciate his talent, but I’m so glad we had him as part of our music culture. God bless him and I’m sure that is who he is with. He was put on this earth for just that to give us all music pleasure. Thank you Glen.
Great singer, great guitarist and I really liked that he came across as a down-to-earth, decent humble guy. A quality I think you find in many brilliant artists in all fields. They let their talent do the talking.
I am 69 years old and loved watching his show and still watch TrueGrit my favorite movie ! Glen was one of a kind talent who lived a full life making so many people happy, i am not ashamed to say I cried when he died. What a man’s man . Go razorbacks! And I am a Yankee from Connecticut
I loved to hear Glen play guitar, I too think he was one of the best guitar players ever! If you missed getting to watch his show back in the day, then you missed a legend showing how it was done. RIP Glen !!
He was excellent. Coming from me, someone who really didn't like country music even a little bit. He brought some inspiration to that time of my life . Thanks Glenn.
From what I’ve heard (read) EVH would ring Glen once or twice a week and said Glen was a major influence on Eddie. That’s immense! Both are undisputed legends! RIP Glen RIP Eddie Great video 👍🇦🇺 P.S. You just gotta watch the “Smoke from a distant fire” version Glen did! Absolutely beautiful
I was never a big country fan but I always enjoyed anything that Glenn put out.. He was part of my youth growing up. So his songs take me back to a more simpler time of life where your biggest problem was how well you'd do on your next spelling test...
Glen is one of the VERY few artists that could cover a legendary song by an incredible vocalist and I'll still love it almost as much as the original I.e., 'If'
I loved his voice from the moment I first heard it. As a professional singer/guitarist from the 60`s through the 70`s I got to cover many of his & Jimmy Webb hit songs. My all time favourites are; By the time I get to Phoenix, Gentle on my mind and Wichita Linesman. I watched the TV docco of his farewell tour and shed a few tears to think of the musical wonder he created. I`m sure I`m not alone in saying that Glen will always be " Gentle on my mind."
Glen was one of the best. Anyone who could sit in with the wrecking crew . A group of the best musicians in the world and play by ear, such as Tommy Tadesco Carroll Kay and many more . He was an amazing musician. I am sure a child prodigy. He could hear a song once and emiditly play it. That is someone who is gifted, no doubt.
I didn't realize Glen had been a session artist until I watched the documentary, "The Wrecking Crew". What an amazing collection of talented people. It seems like the were the 'background' sound on almost every song recorded in the L.A. area during the sixties.
A funny comment I read recently was, a fan had his 6 favorite rock band drummers from some groups of the 1960’s. Until he saw the Wrecking Crew video, and discovered his 6 favorite drummers, were all the same person, Hal Blaine.
Who was it??? There was suppose to be a pop up showing a link. It was Leon Russell

I think that he's one of the greatest artists ever. He truly was a great musician and all around package.
Amazing Grace
Glen Campbell
Bag Pipes
MAGNIFICENT
Musician, singer, actor…despite all his fame and awards, I still think he’s very under appreciated. I love learning about his Wrecking Crew days, and wish there was more video of those sessions.
the "WRECKING CREW" backed up a lot of bands of the day, they could play anything. it is a shame that they are un- credited for their work!!!!!.
@@kevinfarrell3121 , I agree with you 100%!!!!!.
I'm from England and remember hearing witchita lineman for the 1st time in the sixties and thinking what a great song
Glen Campbell defentily had a style sll his own. I regard him as the best of the best . He was incredible he could do it all . And a singer as well, I have no doubt he could have played any setting with anybody. If heaven has a band, there is no doubt Glen will be the star.
He did well and could play anything. His documentary was great.
Glen Campbell is the reason I like country music. Really any kind of music he was involved with, absolute brilliant guitarist.
Glen Campbell is the best of the best
Got to see him, and meet him because of my Grandfather driving him in
a limousine. The show was amazing, and so was he! what a kind man he
was. Not at all "Hollywood" like a lot of stars you might meet. Very humble!
Thanked us for coming out, more than once! Autographed a few things for
me & my girlfriend at the time. Only got to see him that one time, back in
the 80's. But I will never forget it! Another great video here man, thank you!
To quote Merle Haggard: “If the good Lord put too much talent in one human being's body, that would be Glen Campbell.”
lol Sounds just like Merle. Thanks for watching Tony.
he was one of the greats sadly missed
Most humble guitarist
The man was a fantastic musician. Always was amazed how he could adapt with anyone he played with.
For me he was the greatest guitar player.
Glen Campbell was a true great
I had the pleasure of hearing Glen live in Dublin Ireland in the early 70s. At one poing half way through a tune he walked off stage and came back a few seconds later playing the bagpipes. I loved his singing and he could do anything on guitar.
Glen could do it all! What a talent!
I agree with you 💯 percent. I believe that he was the best guitar player of all time.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Glenn’s musical genius brings tears to my eyes. So very very special! Ray
We recently lost another guitar giant,Nashville session player,Mr Larry Dewese,as good as anyone around,,and a great friend, bandmate,RIP Larry
Incredible
RIP
Mr. Campbell
Your influence will be enjoyed by music enthusiasts for generations.

Thank you Glen.
no doubt in the top two ?.Glen Campbell no doubt a phenomenal guitarist & vocalist is sufficient.
Loved by those who know about him, sadly underrated by most.
Well said!
Great singer, great guitarist and I really liked that he came across as a down-to-earth, decent humble guy. A quality
I think you find in many brilliant artists in all fields. They let their talent do the talking.
Nice picture of Glen with Leon Russell.
He had it all. One of the very best ever on our planet. He gave us so much. Great video Doc 👍🏼😎
Thanks David. Glad you enjoyed it!
Glen Campbell was a true artist both in guitar and solos. He and Andy Williams were my favorites.🎯💎💎🎯
His life should be made into a movie!
RIP Glen
RIP Eddie
Great video
👍🇦🇺
P.S. You just gotta watch the “Smoke from a distant fire” version Glen did! Absolutely beautiful
Thanks Shane, appreciate it!!
always love Glen Campbells' beautiful guitar solos and his hit songs that became standards like Galveston..
Great vid 👍
Thanks Sadie Lamp. Glad you enjoyed it!
I was never a big country fan but I always enjoyed anything that Glenn put out.. He was part of my youth growing up. So his songs take me back to a more simpler time of life where your biggest problem was how well you'd do on your next spelling test...
Glen is one of the VERY few artists that could cover a legendary song by an incredible vocalist and I'll still love it almost as much as the original I.e., 'If'
He also had a knack for recognizing a hit song in an instant!
Did you know he could play the bag pipes like nobody's business? I was floored!
