Transparent tech -- so hot right now. With a window into Edifier's new QD35 speaker, Dan's hoping to see big speakers, colourful lights, and... worms? Will Edifier delight, or is it all just a facade? Only one way to find out!

This was one of those "am I made of worms?" days I see
First here
OwO
Guys we need worms merch now. Little cartoon worms wearing headphones and jamming
Intrusive thoughts have made their way out 😂
which is weird because he's made from bread
Dan is the inner voice in my head that's come alive.
wait. why does this make sense...
"I don't know if I'm full of worms or not..."
God. Dammit, Dan.
Now I have questions...
First
the amount of people currently carrying around parasitic worms without knowing is higher than you wanna know :)
@@Tophatguy_vrJust for you bro: 🏅 🥇 🎖️
Congrats.
The answer is probably sushi.
Dan is a real life Wes Anderson character.
First
Theres a slight Jeff Goldblum in there somwhere
its the incoherant screams at home that brings his character to life
This is the best description of Dan ive seen.
Super accurate. Down to the pace of dialogue and lack of pauses to let each prior zinger sink in
Dan is all of our intrusive thoughts
"I don't know if I'm full of worms or not..."
and the sticker
Dan is great, he is so matter-of-fact that its just easy to absorb whatever he's talking about.
Worms in current year.
He's very uncomfortable being a presenter. Makes for an awkward video, would rather have James review speakers, I don't know what Dan's day to day duties are but he's better off behind a camera
@@freshfishonly I respectfully disagree. His cadence is fine and he gets the point across like a friend explaining a product to you. If anything I prefer this type of review/unboxing rather than some full of confidence puppet who says whatever pleases the sponsors lol.
That's completely fine, to each his own I suppose.@@Skyflairl2p
Always nice to see Dan reviews!
It always surprises me that people are in to home audio enough to have a standalone speaker like this but not enough to have real bookshelf speakers that genuinely sound good
I do it for sure. I mean, I have an actual stereo in a different room, but I've bought lots of powered monitors. My biggest use case is for PC's. Adding a good amp to a desk setup is difficult to do without compromising heat, space, circuit wattage, em interference and/or most especially, wire management. Unless what you meant is just having one, as opposed to a pair, which I agree with big time.
Think about it this way, a powered monitor setup is a massive step above PC specific speaker setups. It might be the largest single step in quality within home audio. Powered monitors are the laptop to the component home stereo's PC.
If you have it against a wall, you might feel some of the extra punch of bass being reflected off of the walls
Neighbor’s worst nighmare
Very much this. I have a pair of 7" bookshelves that are absolute beasts (extremis 6.8 drivers) and if you put them in the middle of a room they sound anemic because I designed them to be near-ish to a wall so they have only have ~3dB of baffle step compensation not 6 or more that you'd want for something used in the middle of the room. If you have them near a wall they are basically flat down to 40Hz but when it's out from the wall it drops off a couple octaves higher than that.
I was thinking this too, there are quite a few speakers using this type of design that felt on being placed near a wall of similar backdrop for the bass to be reflected. Another reason that it's actually a good idea to actually look at the manual instead of idiotically throwing it aside.
That being said Edifier tends to be known for having fairly low quality overall, so I didn't really expect anything from this plastic pile of $_.
@@tionio7722lol poor people who live in apartments
This is not some random tech RUclipsr doing this in his bedroom closet. He has a whole camera crew and rest of the studio in front of him. If it sounds too bassy like that, it would sound even worse had he wall in front of him.
"I don't know if I'm full of worms or not?" what a wonderful way to open a video, love dan
Stereo makes a massive difference. I bought a google nest audio for the corner of my kitchen bench. I got another a week later and made a stereo pair and put it in the other corner. the sound was more than twice as good in a stereo pair. and probably cost less than this. I see this product being something like a desk/bench/bedside speaker.
Well yeah, obviously stereo is better but that applies to every speaker.
And weve known that since what, 1930 or so? People shouldnt expect a singular bluetooth speaker to sound impressive.
@@pelagia1538a mono speaker can sound great. If you miss frequencies on one speaker you will also with two.
I love how Dan always makes the bleep button work when he's on SC.
"I don't know if I'm full of worms or not" definitely got me to pay attention. Most effective way to turn second monitor content into main viewing 😅
I always enjoy Dan's appearances :)
Dan is my favorite cast member at this point, such a perfect show!
i love dan when he does reviews. no filters and says it exactly as they are.
There is genuinely nothing I love more than a Dan hosted video
Dan is easily my favorite member of the LTT crew
You discussed every feature in depth and that's impressive.
8:30 it's probably because it's supposed to be sitting against a wall and the bass ports would reflect off the wall so that it doesn't feel so empty when listening from the front side. Definitely not made for open air
Dan is my favorite on camera personality! We need more Dan!
Seems like Edifier did something similar to Bose and you need the speaker in front of a wall for it to sound the best.
Yeah that was my first thought, too. I dont know too many people outside of corporate offices who have their desk floating in the middle of the room. Even outside of Bose, my cheap crappy Logitech speakers benefit from a wall. too.
Dan has a very chaotic mind.
The way he speaks, picks things up and sets it back down again.
Feeling every knob, nook and cranny of this speaker.
It is absolutely wonderful seeing Dan doing a review of this Edifier speaker.
Dan is basically that little voice we have in our heads.
Dan videos are an instant watch and upvote, always so entertaining. Edit: Worms worms worms!
Also note on the cord, at least it's a standard connection that can easily be replaced or changed.
A wild Dan appears yet again. I love his way of witty yet savage information delivery.
I could listen to this man review audio equipment all day, every day
Yeah, he’s a real earworm.
LOL that's quite the vertical throw for a mighty 3db eq change
It's 6db, it's starting point is -3
That being said, the UI is terrible so I see why you made that mistake lol
Dan is an absolute joy... What a great asset for LMG.
Only Dan could begin a video by stating "I Dunno if i'm full of worms or not" and have me smashing the like button within the first ten seconds. Please never change Dan!
always nice to have more dan videos. love his reviews and his quirkieness.
I'm not even a little interested in this product but Dan makes it seem interesting. W Dan
what I like best about the worms is the fact that they are not an eldritch horror
I would have tried it with its back facing a wall, maybe that would help with the bass. I have an Akai BT speaker that fires down with the reflex tube, it often feels the superior config, but that also needs a solid surface.
I have a Edifier S350DB and I actually love it a lot!
"it sounds better from the back" maybe it would sound better in front of a wall to bounce the bass reflex output off of?
The most entertaining videos are the ones hosted by Dan, I love it!
"It'd be really sick to have a little transparent panel right here. I don't know if I'm full of worms or not."
That's the most Dan shit that Dan has ever said.
This Dan model doesn't have worms in him. We stopped making that model long ago
I think they base the volume leveler to be based on your device, so depending on devices, laptop / phone / pc, etc it can be louder
Speaking for all of the internet here... we need more Dan in videos, he's great!
Nope
Team17 needs to sponsor a Dan video with their next Worms game ^_^
These first 10 seconds are without a doubt the greatest intro in any video ever!
Worms!❤
One suggestion though...If the speaker is offering aux input, use it for sound quality check. With lossless audio it makes an absolute difference. Bluetooth just limits that to hell. Tested this for years from cheap bluetooth speakers to the high powered car audio. But i like to see Dan as well.
“I bring the ‘worm energy’ to the tech review that the ‘Linus Sebastian’ behind me don’t really like.”
Sound wasnt bad on my unit but custom eq is needed
I feel like you’re supposed to have it against a wall which theoretically would further diffuse and distribute the bass signal. It might not “fix” the audio problems but I think it would likely round out the sound of the speaker a lot more
Yeah thought that as well!
When Dan is involved, the content is always After Dark.
Awesome review, thanks Dan! :D
Bought the Edifier r1700bt bookshelf speakers to use on my PC years ago. Amazing build quality and sound too! Definitely recommend checking the brand if you're looking for speakers
This guy talks the way I do when I try to microdose but over-do it. I love his style and the worms jokes were gold😂
I get real “Welcome to night vale” vibes. Now I want hidden night vale stuff in every Dan episode
I was more excited about the worms rather than the speaker unit. I wanted to see worms!
When I qualify I’m definitely using the phrase “going to have to do some surgery to find out what worms are in here”
Dan is just casually a serial killer.
ohh now I want one for a really odd build I wanna do .. gotta look into putting this one the list
Definitely look forward to dan videos.
Worms, you say? "Red Wigglers: The Cadillac of worms!" - WKRP in Cincinnati
I'm guessing, as with basically everything that's reflex ported behind itself, that it has a specific distance from a wall or other large flat surface it wants to be (usually mentioned in the manual). The wall reflects the bass around, giving it a larger feel and less directionality. Wouldn't help with a mids scoop though. This was a weird miss for edifier - kind of their entire thing is affordable bookshelf speakers that punch way above their cost. I like the look but with an open grill like that, I'd prefer the tweeter be an AMT and a larger 4 or 6 inch woofer. and maybe send it with some kind of protective cover you could put over the drivers. I like the look of uncovered drivers but am always paranoid.
A pair of the hivi swan OS-10's is $150, they're bluetooth, wired, sound amazing. Or the edifier R1280BS for the same.
The way he said I play incoherent screaming at home 😂
what a start to a video 💀
Dan's hyperfocus has finally been driven away from bread and landed on worms I guess
Have you looked at the Sony HT-AX7? It's touted as a "portable theater system" with detachable satellites that costs $500. For that money, one could buy a Minirig 2.1 setup.
MORE DAN! I love the way he speaks to my soul
"Once you go worm, that's all you'll yearn!"
im a minute in and i need mor Dan in my life lolz. He needs to unbox more!
idk man it looks to me like something I'd get tucked away behind some hats with bottle openers at TJ Maxx
I like the W-King line of speakers
I have the D9 and it punches way above its $80 price tag. And it's lasted a year now being played 10 hours a day 6 days a week, often over-driven with equalizer tweaks.
I love this guy, every time he is in a video it is a joy.
The video so nice I watched it twice. Thanks Dan!
*drug tests come back negative*
Linus: so you’re just really that weird???
Dan: yes
4:35 IT HURTS. PLEASE DON'T DO THAT TO THAT WOOFER!
I can think of at least half a dozen speakers I would buy before this one
I bought this before, and its nice as a talk and show piece when u have a house party, but the sound is lacking a bit. I might end up buying good quality low profile speakers to cover up this speaker's lack of good music to balance it out hahahaha
The bass port "sound lines" were going through the ports on the rear and then out through the speakers on the front (it was a transparent view through the speaker)
I think the intention here was really to make a modern "clock-radio" type product to sit on a night stand in the bedroom. Makes a lot of sense to integrate a good quality 35W PD charger into it. What's strangest about this though is that Edifier uses those exact drivers in a number of really solid powered stereo monitor pairs that deliver great sound quality.
_"It sounds really good _*_backwards,_*_ then you turn it around and It sounds like.. ass."_
Dan. ~2023
I'd be curious to see a review of the new refresh of the Mackie Stealth Bar. I have the v1 and for a small form factor daily driver when I'm not using headphones I've loved the sound stage and audio quality, especially considering the price point. Yeah, it's not going to be audiophile grade and DEFINITELY not monitor status, but I'd be lying if I were to say it's a bad product for the price. Plus the customer service for Mackie is insane. I had the first one take a dump on me and they sent out a replacement for free without needing the original one shipped back. Turns out when it "took a dump", it was because I was being a dummy and didn't realize my powered USB hub was the problem, so I basically got a new one for free when I didn't actually need it.
Dan: "It's nice that iPhone now has widgets"
Widgets Edifier supports: iOS 8 Widgets.
the mri scan of my lymphoma tumours are my desktop wallpapers...shakes head...i need help..
Dan's brainworms are what makes him special
nobody likes me, everyone hates me....I'm gonna eat some worms....lol
now im invested in Dan's intrusive thoughts...time to go and watch all the reviews with Dan specifically.
I have 2 sets of Edifiers, a set of R1700BTs' in my bedroom, and a set of R1280DBs' on my PC desk along with an accompanying Dayton SUB800 8" powered sub under the desk.....
Both of them sound utterly fantastic, even without a sub, beautiful, rich and pretty flat sound..... those little guys put in work. I initially was set out to buy some Swans D100's for my bedroom, but they were never in stock, so I reluctantly bought the Edifiers because I know they've been highly regarded by some known audio guys.... I was definitely not disappointed 👌
Now while I'm biased due to me owning and thoroughly enjoying 2 sets of Edifiers, and would never buy a standalone BT speaker (ok I lied, I bought one for work when I was driving a forklift that would sit perfectly inside the cupholder, a small UK built BT speaker called a MiniRig, also fantastic), but it seems you're not using this thing in it's intended scenery.... I mean, who listens to a speaker that close? Strange
I've got a pair of R1700BTs as my PC speakers too and they're damn good, on par with my vintage 70s Hi-Fi speakers, absolutely stellar value, they outshine speakers double their price. They look great too.
@@angry_wizard yeah Edifier makes great stuff, I was very surprised with both of my sets sound.
I looked on Amazon for this little one reviewed, it seems this guy here is the only one disappointed with it's sound... people have said it's nothing in comparison with Edifier's more focused offers, but for a "single speaker" Bluetooth RGB clock speaker, it sounds great....so after my Edifiers, and the written reviews on this one here, I'm wondering if he wasn't placing it, or himself in a correct manner, location, room size, table ECT (who listens to a speaker that close?) , or it was defective or has already passed through other reviewers hands.... IDK, strange.... I personally wouldn't buy it, I've got a ton of RGB in my PC and behind my desk, but my desk is beautiful, clean simple walnut, and my Edifiers match pretty nicely, I don't want transparent RGB speakers on my desk 😅
I will say one defense about the bass from the back; with it being a non-wireless speaker, I would assume it would be against a wall in MOST cases which would help with that a little... But I am no expert
BEST introduction sentence I've EVER heard
My favourite implementation of a clear speaker has to be the Lyric Speaker, but it is freakung expensive.
Amazarashi did a really cool music video with one.
I used to refer to him as Dial-tone Dan, but I think he's more of a Busy Signal Dan now
good video btw
Best advert for worms ever!
I got a Panasonic SC-UA30 for $150 which is one of those giant standing-up speakers and it's 300W. It does Bluetooth and RCA in and it is loud af. If you are looking for a speaker for music maybe you want to check it out. I'm thinking of getting another one for the other side of the table so it's stereo
honestly i have no interest in bluetooth speakers, but i do have interest in Dan's delivery, something about his timing makes him a joy to listen to.
Even through YT audio compression i think to be able to hear to out what Dan means,
kinda like the midrange speaker is set to a highpass of 300-400 hz,
with the bassports trying to fill all the sub region
Well maybe if he used a phone with LDAC support instead of an iPhone...
@@zadarblackthough LDAC doesn’t really matter if the device you’re using it with can’t reproduce sound as good and take advantage of the resolution
@@TR-qf2gt why It wont allow to reply? (Edit strange) I have a HiFi sound system with Bluetooth and use apple music hifi music and it sound like this on my wife iphone but sound good on my android. (Both using apple music app but her on aac Bluetooth and me on LDAC and her it sound like part of the sound missing because of compression just like he experienced in Is test.)
I just don’t believe you
@@ggill1313 not my problem. The difference using hi fidelity music on a high fidelity compatible speaker system is huge when passing from sbc/aac to LDAC its just the reality. You can deny reality all you want it seem like many deny reality lately.
When a frequency band is sudpected of missing, isn't that the perfect time for labs to be included?
Sum nerd 🤓 shi
I got the Cody 3D sound bar from 2010, it is so loud that just turn youtube down to 1% with THX at 100% and it makes bass with windows sonic. It was really cheap, 20$ bucks for 400watts, there was a shipping label; 87$ bucks shipping from Hongkong, no cheap Asia back then.
For now on this guy gotta do ALL THE REVIEWS 😂
Mentions that it doesn’t have a handle and that it’s made of piano black and acrylic and immediately proceeds to pick it up and touch it all over non-stop. Fucking kill me
My Alexa started playing a song while watching this vid around 5:40.
if you go for looks it’s great, if you care about sound quality you can always go for older Studio speakers from brands like Aiwa for very very cheap and then just buy a nice quality small amplifier.
Edifier themselves have the mr4 and it's an amazing studio monitor for the price. No smart internet shenanigans but they sounds great.
It might look cool if you're either 12 or if you really want to stay a virgin.. Besides that, I totally agree with you. Find some old studio speakers - it'll sound and look a world better.
just a Sunday morning, on the way to work, watching a short-circuit video on a transparent Bluetooth speaker😊
Dan, you need some walls to reflect the sound of the bass reflex ports, you are in the middle of a big set !!!
