A little explanation behind the "glass" tube: High frequencies are extremely directional, often times as low as a 30 degree dispersion angle. So for any tweeter, anyone just a little off to the side will clearly hear that the speaker is not pointed at them. The lower the frequencies go, the wider the natural dispersion of the frequencies, so a single bass driver firing down can disperse evenly around the speaker. With the glass tube, it will (theoretically) disperse the high frequencies in a 360 degree radius. Pretty neat idea if you want to evenly disperse sound into a room and have it sound pretty even in all directions. Judging by the performance. I have a feeling that the tube being basically plastic kinda absorbed a lot of the high frequencies instead of dispersing them. My guess would be that glass would perform better.
@@YOEL_44 Yes and no. You kind of describe a particular type of horn design used for high frequency drivers, by they are still very directional at shorter distances. Typically horns are used to allow for longer throws with decent dispersion. As far as not absorbing the sound like the tube here, you're correct. Now that you mentioned it, I'm curious as to what effect adding holes to the tube would have. Unless the phase cancellation would be a problem, it seems like that would act similar to a horn design and disperse in the way that they are trying to.
Making the tube out of glass would make it to heavy to propagate the high frequency sound. But made out of plastic it's not stiff enough instead. There is a reason that tweeters are small and made of extremely light materials. So damned if you do and damned if you don't. The use of a cone held above a tweeter element to spread the sound is a better design. The angled baffles in front of the tweeter is some times called an acoustic lens and have often been used to control the spread of the sound, usually to make it spread horizontally but not as much vertically.
Cone ish shape Infront of a HF driver kind of works, however you also end up with a horrible beam of HF straight out of the top, around the cone which would reflect off the ceiling - source I have designed this kind of thing for use in a high end club as an "effect" speaker

11:50 "If you had nothing to compare it to but your phone, this is an option." Given it's fragility, it's basically restricted to home use. There are plenty of portable options that probably compete with it in sound quality at $200. At $350 there are dedicated home solutions to compete with.
One thing is for sure, I know very few media companies with this many enjoyable on camera personalities. I also love how they interact with the people off camera, it helps keep things natural, I think.

the absolute attention to detail to shift the simulated sound from side to side when he moves the speaker is on point :D
yeah I was going to mention that
Technical term would be panning, and I agree, it's always cool to see the attention to details, unless it was captured with an stereo microphone system, then it would just be.
I can only see this being used for outdoor dinners just to have on the table, love sony speakers but the use case for this seems small. Still love my Sony srs-x88!
If you want a portable Bluetooth speaker for outdoor dinners, and you have $350 to spend, you can do a hell of a lot better than this thing.
@@BlissBatch but will it look as good? Is it just simply "plug" and play?
Products like these have never been designed for audiophiles, but for people who just want a good-looking solution and don't know any better, this is perfect for them.
(please note, I am just bringing some counterpoints, I'd never spend that much on a Bluetooth speaker)
@@scottg3192 Sony audio devices are typically that easy at least for first time pairing.
I got both their buds (Linkbuds and the WFM3s).
If theyre not paired to anything they immediately go searching.
I do see your point on buying the speaker for simplicity.
@@BlissBatch Honestly, if you're just looking for a BT speaker for outdoor stuff (Lets be real, nobody's getting audiophile quality from a BT speaker. Not yet, at least.), just go grab a Megaboom from Ultimate Ears. Costs half as much and sounds good enough for the price.
@@Ehh..... don't get me wrong, I love Sony audio devices (got the XM3's, link buds and my blueray/hifi system) and each of them has their own place and usage.
I'm, luckily, able to understand enough to mush together my own Bluetooth receiver and a good set of bookshelves that I'd never need the use for 300$+ speakers (even made a few different types of homemade battery packs to make them "portable") But I am aware that people just like things to work, and I know that I could never make good wireless earbuds myself
Could be cool if LMG did a video on creating your own great audio, in any form, as I don't think that putting some copper wire in a receiver is that hard (but then they might not get as many sponsors if they show us how to do what *they* do but better
This is by far one of the best short circuits ever top five for sure. This man is hilarious naturally!
yes agree
I love the calm and soothing way Dan talks! A nice change of pace from the overly energetic hosts!
Dan’s voice and energy are really cozy for a video of this nature.
Dan's a fine addition to the team! Can't wait to see more of his quirky attitude!
should just make this guy a writer. he's great
This was a great share by Dan. Sine sweep was a very nice touch. He may have been too lenient on the pricing though-$250+ has had some real nice and portable options like Bang and Olufsen’s offerings for a good while already. And while I was as excited as he was at the prospect of the tweeter design, as soon as he found out it was plastic it was like a prelude into what a let down the speaker was going to be pending pricing.
Oh yeah sorry my figures were CAD not USD.
This is the most unexpectedly entertaining video from LMG in years. Second only to Dennis' intel makeover
*** $350 $50 sounding, $15 build quality, Gimmick***
2:10 okay I *have* to see Adam in more videos - he seems bubbly but chill at the same time and I'm living for that ✨
Definitely need more Dan in my life. Can we get him to host more of the regular series?
Oh, thank god! I love LMG, but it is always so high energy and the sound quality always favors the upper frequencies. This was so relaxing. I put it on, had a glass of red wine, and played with my dog. Great experience. More of this.
Dan is my new favourite short circuit host! somehow calm and chaotic at the same time
Isnt Dan with the Logistics ? Its hilarious to me that the person who a part of the cleanup crew is also throwing paper everywhere lol
So no one’s gonna talk about how Dan uses a freakin Sony Xperia Mark? He’s the first guy I have seen using this phone!
A great job from Dan again. He is truly showing great promise as a LMG host. I would love to see him host in future LTT videos. His presence on screen screams LTT what should I call it... charisma? Andy is also great in the video!
Dan is great and fits right in after a relatively "short" time at LTT
I fucking love the voice and attitude of Dan.
Dan you rock!!
I have one of the Walmart lavalamp speakers and it's nice looking, serves a purpose, and is decently loud with good sound quality...but it only cost me about $30. So this is definitely something for someone who wants that particular aesthetic or the novelty of a glass? tweeter.
I *LOVE* this dude and his way of speaking. Everyone always mentions how calm and relaxing Anthony sounds, something I never quite understood (his amazing knowledge and hosting talents aside!). But man, he doesn't hold a candle (geddit) to Dan here. SOOTHING.
I love how soft-spoken Dan is, it brings a really chill atmosphere to the video.
“2.5 lbs, hefty. Good bludgeoning weapon?”
Say no more, I’m sold! ShortCircuit always sharing the important and most insightful first impressions of a product :D
Dan reminds me of a coworker when I was an intern who could regularly send me into hysterics without ever letting on if he was even aware that he was being silly. I love this vibe.
Also the sine wave test and explanation was interesting, I wonder how my devices will hold up!
ayoo congrats on the PC that is definitely not a virus
I've been really enjoying Dan in the videos he's been in lately. :) Love the energy.
I would kinda love if Dan just had his own playlist for ASMR unboxings. No need to change the speaking voice, it's already perfect.
DAN!!!!! I love his tone and how he explains things. LTT has so much talent when it comes to their staff. Still miss Luke though.
I love Dan. He is so different to so many other LTT staff in an amazing way!
Ok, I think Dan has taken the spot as my favourite LMG member. His personality is absolutely amazing!
I am really loving Dan and his no nonsense approach and more calm demeaner. More Dan, and maybe a team up with Anthony.
Dan seemed a little quiet in the beginning of the video but he really brought a lot of nice energy by the end of the video. Excited to see him in more videos
Dan the man got his first solo video, nice!
Yeah, you guys did well hiring this guy. He's great for LMG. Anthony Tier employee right here.
11:50 "If you had nothing to compare it to but your phone, this is an option."
Given it's fragility, it's basically restricted to home use. There are plenty of portable options that probably compete with it in sound quality at $200. At $350 there are dedicated home solutions to compete with.
For 350 you can start looking into bookshelf speakers, maybe even passive with a halfway decent amp
One thing is for sure, I know very few media companies with this many enjoyable on camera personalities. I also love how they interact with the people off camera, it helps keep things natural, I think.
Am I the only one that thinks his voice is so chill it makes you wanna take a nap ^-^?
"It's a lot girthier than I expected. I'm intimidated now".
The double entendres are a little more refined than Linuses', but not by that much.
Dan is great.
Do more audio reviews with this guy, he sounds like he knows what he is talking about.
I hear that.
Dan's reaction to the speaker turning on is PRICELESS. Dan should host more often!!!
Dan is SUCH a solid add, I don't know how LMG does it but I am so glad you do.
The feel I get from Dan is similar to that of Crinacle. For what it's worth, I also get a slightly-angry relaxed vibe with him, like he's trying to maintain composure but _anything_ out-of-place might set him off, _but only for a moment._
this Dan guy is great, I'm hopeful to see him doing more audio stuff!
Finally Dan's first solo video!
Really looking forward to all the audio equipment content we'll be getting when labs launches....right guys?!
Dude. Where have you been? Great review and correct attitude. More, please.
I love how brutally honest Dan is, and the small quips. And the screech sound :D
Dan is cool, hope he continues to be on / host videos
This dude is a great reviewer. Loved his honest perspective.
He’s too slow to get to the point
Really liking this tall logistics guy 😂😂😂
I like these non main cast host guys. It was informative, interesting, and he wasn't shying away from being harsh about it like the main like hosts. Good stuff.
This dude got the most calming voice of all the lmg staffs.
Dude Dan is soo good at these reviews . I feel like he's just talking and saying what he thinks. And it's not a video but a talking piece
The bong speaker.
Shoutouts to Dan for being a great on-camera personality as well as doing a sine sweep test on an audio product 👌
^ Please ignore and report this, it's very obviously a scam.
EDIT: Not the main comment, but the reply below, just to be clear.
Now we need James, Dan and Linus in the same room talking about audio stuff
something to note about youtube sine sweep videos, there'll always be a hard cut around16kHz because audio compression algorithms that youtube (and most places) use get rid of everything above to help with compression, since a vast majority of people can't tell the difference in normal usage anyway
Glass speakers always reminded me of those Aura Speakers that's often in Apple store demo room
or those harmon kardon ones
I thought Dan was a bit dry at first, but then he started trolling the audio crew and he grew on me. :)
It's the small breakdown when Crab Rave stopped playing for me, it's so sudden and outta place from his previous calmness that I couldn't help but laugh
Dan:
It's certainly a lot girthier than I expected 🤣🤣🤣
Dan has a unique, quietly entertaining personality
nice! new guy! I like the quiet simple style of review, he's also knowledgeable. glad to see lmg getting new blood (yes, I know about the 2 yr wait so he's probably been working there for at least that long)
This is really fucking cool, and I would love to put up two on my balcony. Can't see myself spending $700 on a product that will inevitably break because of inbuilt battery though.
I love Dan's expertise ! This guy knows everything about consumer tech, crazy good ! Big up from France !
Dan is such a great addition to the team. I feel wonderfully awkward watching this and it's great!
I loved hearing Dan speak about this; he has this eloquent and calming voice that is super easy to listen, and keeps me engaged
Dan's dry humor and witty commentary are so welcome here. Well done, sir!
