I have today for the first time changed the battery in my w-86. The watch is 24 years old. It still told the time perfectly however the back light wasn’t at all bright and the black numbers faded when the back light was pressed. Also, the alarm stopped working. The new battery fixed all this. The phone has been all round the world. The original strap broke last week and a new one is on order. The watch was bought in 1998 to avoid analogue watch thieves in South America. Your video gave me the guidance to change the battery.
Thanks for the very informative video. Just got mine from amazon, great to see the insides of it, been a Casio fan since the 80's-my last Casio, a G-2900F-1VER lasted 10+ years! I needed a small cheap everyday watch I can take a shower or swim with, very light and thin so it doesn't get caught in gloves or in tight winter jacket sleeves with an easy to read dial and a good backlight. Casio watches are indestructible, last long, look good and can withstand plenty of abuse, and all that for €15 !
just watched your video 'How to reverse the rotation of DC brushless fan motor from PC', saw you're wearing a w-86-1vqes with a very cool bracelet, definitely an awesome upgrade! Perhaps you could make a video about different sorts of bracelets too since nowadays watch-repair kits are affordable and easy to get.
@@genkishan that was a makeshift bracelet made out of display "dummy" model of Samsung galaxy watch, lol. I liked it, it was a "conversational piece" 😅
Wow, look at those batteries, it's from my country, many panasonic and sony batteries made in indonesia! Love your video and love your casio, i have some casio databank and marlin
The Casio W800H has jumpers like that. You can solder/desolder them enable a countdown timer, enable an extra 4 alarms, and disable the dual time function if you wish. There are also a couple of others that have as-yet unknown functions. People have speculated that they could be for adjusting the accuracy of the watch. I'd love to know what (if anything) the jumpers do on this model. Any extra functions added would be a big deal, as it is quite a simple 3-button movement with very basic functions.
I've always assumed that once the "zebra strip" comes off of the LCD then, that's it... game over! But, as I see now, this isn't so. Great video again.
At 9:45 that is not a coil. This is a light sensor. If it is dark the backlight comes on automatically when you flip your wrist and i think that W96h model does not do that.Nice video thanx for the upload
6:08 you do not have to take off the entire metal cage to change the battery. You don't even have to remove the module. You just need a safety pin to to pry up the clip over the battery. There are plenty of videos on youtube that show you how to remove the battery. At 3:32 where the screwdriver is pointing to is the area you use the safety pin and un-clip the battery holder.
Dude this was super useful! I'm doing a very important test and want to use the stopwatch feature, but without my watch beeping. I had no idea how to disable noise! Thanks😆
Did you ever try the different solder jumpers? I've wondered about those since I opened up an F91W and noticed them. What's even more interesting is that different F91Ws have different points jumpered. I plan on soldering them up and seeing what happens.
@@roadgent7921 I found out the three jumpers on the right are to adjust the clock speed. They're to adjust the accuracy in increments of about 15s/month. The three below the blob, I'm not sure. The jumper to the left of the blob turns on the led from what I remember.
@@dshambli I was hoping there would be a "secret" fine trimmer!!! Still worth knowing. Thanks for the investigation and feedback. Regards PS - just revived a 1989 DW270 with a new battery - had lay idle and "dead" for 15 years. Works fine; Casio rule!
Hi there, I have the W86, but the alarm stopped working... Do you have any ideas please? I thought there might be a tiny spring missing, because the back plate inside the steel case back is still intact.
I would like to buy a simple Casio like the new W217H or W-800H, but has anyone ever compiled a list of Casio watches that have usable trimmer capacitors? Many G-Shocks have these, but I hope to find a simpler, thinner watch that is trimmable. Wondering if you know... (I wear a F-201WA daily, and have opened it up before, and it appears not to have a trimmer cap. My GLX5600 has a trimmer.)
hi. great video. I have a question that might be dumb, but around how long you think the battery would run out on the w-86 if I keep pressing the backlight non stop?
I hate how with Casio the first digit is always squashed up it spoils the look especially when in 24hr (military) mode. The only vintage style one without this seems to be ca53 calculator.

Funny ,just tried to change battery after 25 years and now alarm doesn't work.
@@NevervousOtoole Shame. Hopefully it’ll come back.
Oh the spring is missing now.. have to find a spring out of watch bar that fits.
@@NevervousOtoole A bad day.
Mine was brought in Porto cristo in 1999 majorca

the soldering connection is propably for adjusting the accuracy of the clock.

At 14:43 we can see that the minutes' numbers are slightly damaged. Due to the strip removal ?! So as you said - game over.
They really do work to a depth in the sea. I've taken mine to 30 meters depth many times, and sometimes deeper

I was thinking the same!
All it takes is a screwdriver, a pin and 5 Minutes to change the battery 👍🏻

Thanks!
Great video.. Superb teardown
Would you be able to show how we can add the countdown timer to the casio watch.i know it's available. You need to scrape away one of the solders.

Pressing the buttons made the module fall out rather than using the screwdriver to lever it out. Well it worked for me.

I've lost the beep on my w86... Tried the teardown and can confirm that the spring is in place. Any ideas?
Is it making good contact? Any corrosion on the piezoelectric disc? Not sure what else...
Back plate may be upside down !
At 13:19 the watch reads 13:19 ....... spooky
My w-86 doesn’t say CASIO when bottom left held 😢
Hola. Necesita ser reseteado en el cambio de pila?
5:15 looks like something spat out by the Borg. I have one on order.

Does W86 have 20 seconds alarm?
Fantastic interesting video.
What a pain in the bitch. I’m not doing all this for a cheap watch. But thanks for making the vid.
