- Welcome to another chatty informal quilty video where I share with you what I've been doing in my sewing room. This week I made the top/flimsy to a chandelier quilt [a request]...I used narrow strips of fabric...some I cut from yardage and some I had pre-cut in my stash/scraps. This is not a new design...I have [along with many other people] made this before. It is based on a quarter log cabin...an excellent way of using up fabric pieces if you have any. If you would like to see how tackled this one...grab a drink and make yourself comfy.
Thanks Diane for your tutorial , always well explained and enjoyable. I love your wee added graphics😄. Hope your knee heals quickly. Take care❤️
Thank you Angela for your kind comments...editing the little videos can take you down a very deep rabbit hole!!!😊 There is so much available...I have to keep myself in check...the knee is much better thank you. Have a good week.❤
I always admire the amount of prep work and planning you do for your quilts. I jump in and then figure colors and things out as I go. Glad your knee is better!!!
Thank you spontaneous Caitlin 😊...I imagine your quilts work beautifully...lots of energy ❤👍 (knee on the mend)x
What was not to love about this whole video🤗😊. Im always there til the end. Beautiful quilt. Your customer will be so pleased.Im glad your knee is better. Having had a tibial plateau fracture for the last year and 4 months, and still trying to regain leg muscle strength back after having a brace on my whole leg along with 3 months of complete bed rest!!!! 😬🥴 I hear you on keeping strong as we age. Glad your husband brought you a Guinness 😂 that was funny.
Hello Angela, thank you for your kind words...so happy to have you join me in my sewing room. Your injury sounds horrendous...I hope you are feeling better now...I am doing seated yoga...its very kind to my knee and makes me feel positive. Take care❤😊
Thank you, very interesting to see your process, and a lovely quilt!
Thank you for commenting Lorraine, just finished it last night...tidy up today and onto the next one 😊👍
Who knew yoga was so dangerous 😂
Hope you recover quickly 😊 and thank you for sharing your thoughts on colour for this quilt. Totally makes sense! It's so pretty!!!!
Thank you E❤. The colours do look nice (in my opinion...but my customer will have the freedom of choice😂)...Just keeping to seated yoga for a while 👍
@dianedavis5958 lol seated yoga clearly is the most sensible option 😆
Colours are balanced and good on the eye 👀
I did see another half log cabin block on another RUclips channel which caught my eye, but this is another level. Bravo 👏
Hi Diane, like the quilt, you give us all sorts of ideas each week. I love the chandelier quilt when you turned the blocks around
Hi Julie, happy to share this free platform with everyone...nice to offer ideas...that alternative quilt is calling to me now...one day! Have a good weekend.
Diane, I always enjoy your videos, you explain things so well. Thank you for sharing your creations, I look forward to more! 🤗. Glad to hear you’re doing better, and yes, as we become “less young” 😅 we must keep moving!
Thank you Mignonne, so glad you are enjoying the content...I am always happy to share my work. I've now discovered seated Yoga... every cloud has a silver lining. Enjoy your week.😊👍
@@dianedavis5958 I have seen advertisements for “chair yoga”, have you gotten to do it yet?
Hello Mignonne, yes! I'm happily working my way through, 'Yes2next'... A mother and daughter video on RUclips... I'm using glass paper weights for the weights...I would recommend any one to try it😊👍
@@dianedavis5958 wonderful!!!
Loved your video. 😊
Thank you Deanna, glad you enjoyed the visit 😊❤
Your better half is hilarious bringing you a glass of Guinness! They do say Guinnes is good for you.
The finished result was super though I havevto say I really really did like the alternative placing you tried out - the glory of a log cabin type make!
I hasn't passed my notice that s lot of sewing aficionados hobble around with various complaints....we're not getting enough sunlight amongst all sitting we do, let alone exercise!
Beautiful work a always🎉
Good morning SMK... it's tasty too good medicine when I needed it! The alternative quilt was interesting... another on my to do list!😉 I do try and chase the sun around the garden for my coffee break... its the better medicine I think 😅. Have a great weekend thanks for visiting.👍
The Robert Kaufman app is brilliant for working out the side setting triangles 😊
Thank you Robyn for the tip...I will certainly look that one up 👍
Thank you for sharing this with us. Very nice quilt.
Thanks for watching Margaret...glad you enjoyed this one.😊
It’s just beautiful!
Thank you Becky, so glad you enjoyed this one.❤
Diane what a fab quilt, I have made a chandelier quilt and it’s not a patch on yours! I really like black as the chain part, who’d have thought! As always, very well explained. A really charming quilt, love the colours, I am sure your customer will be ecstatic, I know I am. ❤
Hello Barbara, lovely to hear from you. Glad you liked this one...its all sandwiched together...just about to start quilting it... fingers crossed for no mistakes 😁. Have a good weekend.👍
Lovely quilt Diane. The colour combinations are sparkling. I’m sure your intended purchaser will be very happy with the quilt. Could you perhaps add a larger piece of the dragon fly material into the backing somehow? Would be extra lovely to see a whole dragonfly somewhere. Obviously just ignore that thought if you think it’s weird! Glad your knee is getting better.
Oh Patricia its not a weird thought at all...I just wished I'd read your comment before I started quilting!!! The knee distracted me and I was just focusing on finishing...that was a missed opportunity...next time. Thank you for the suggestion though.❤👍
Thank you for sharing this. What a step up
From the usual chandelier pattern! Your customer will be very pleased
Thank you so much Kathleen, that's very kind of you to say. Just finishing it now 😊👍
this looks similar to the Hanging gardens that I remember.
Hi Fredericka, they say there is nothing new under the sun😊. Chandelier or hanging garden...all variations of quarter log cabins...all lovely and great scrap busters.👍
Very pretty. Thanks for sharing
Thank you SMF!😊
Such a beautiful quilt! Hope you feel better soon. ❤👍from Somerset
Thank you Elizabeth...knee brace off now...so that's a step in the right direction... literally 😂👍!
It’s simply stunning and inspiring. 💚🩷🧡
Thank you Kaylyn, so glad you enjoyed this one.😊👍
❤❤❤. Glad your knee is better x
Getting there...thanks for your well wishes 😂❤
❤❤❤❤
Morning Colette...thank you for your heart rating❤😂👍
I’m glad your knee is feeling better. I love hearing your process for making a quilt.
Thank you Robin, on the mend now.😊 Glad you are enjoying the content...I am fascinated by the thoughts behind creators creations too❤! Always happy to share. PS. Do you have a channel...?
@@dianedavis5958 I do , but I haven’t made a video in ages.
Thank you Robin, just watched your last video and am now subscribed. It was lovely to 'meet' you. Take care. Di.
@@dianedavis5958 thank you!
Ah.. a kindred spirit!
I too practice yoga and have for years
Then I substituted tap dance for 10 yrs
Now it's back to yoga although now I have to do it in a chair!!
Also, I have a ruler like yours that I used in 1964 while taking mechanical drawing 😅
Now that's all done on a computer
Love your quilts
I'm so impresses how creative you are
My favorite type of construction is more pn the modern style now
I'm happiest sewing varied scraps
together and watch what happens😂
Take care and see you next time

Please ignore the typos...I have fat 👉
Fingers😮
Hi Jan from Jacksonville, Florida...I hope the water damage wasn't too bad in your area😊. Tap dancing!? Sounds much too energetic for me😮...although if Richard Geer could learn a routine perhaps I could...or not😅. At the moment its seated Yoga for me and I'm really enjoying it😊. I think there comes a time when giving up our rulers has passed...we are much too connected to them. Enjoy your week.❤
Just a small message to wish you a safe passage through storm Milton... keeping everything crossed that it's not as bad as it looks...take care❤.
Thanks for your concern
Jacksonville is north Florida on the east coast
Fortunately, for us anyway, this fierce beast will slice through the center of the peninsula so consequently , we just get some heavy bouts of rain and some wind
Whew!!
Beautiful quilt! Do you have your own pattern?
Hello Paula, I don't use patterns. I started with a 2" four patch and added strips on two sides...like a quarter log cabin...until the block measured 7.5". The sashing is 2" with a 2" four patch...all set on point. However, Rochelle commented and said 'Cosy Designs' did a 'Hanging Gardens' design a few years ago which looks quite similar. Hope that helps.
