Well done, brother. I am glad you are dealing with this issue. And how right you are that these celebrity pastors who are entertaining goats rather than feeding sheep will one day be judged. That James 3:1 apparently does not keep them up at night speaks volumes.

They got too much in loving this world to quit it.
The problem they all have IS that they are to seared calloused in SIN to hear anything anyone is telling them.
1 Samuel 15:23 defines their rebellious mentality.
Just try to tell this guy or peters, or rosenbrough gut they’re practicing the #1 demonic philosophy from their venues pulpits, that IS going to get them JUDGED for it and their blind followers also as 2 John 11 says.
NONE of them listen because they ALL Think they are beyond reproach and Above correction whatsoever. Primarily because they have used the classic TBN “FLYPAPER” trap format.

I attended Saddleback for 4 years before the Lord drew me out 2 yrs ago.
    -The Gospel is never presented
-There is no exegesis of scripture
-Sometimes the name Jesus is never mentioned in the sermon until closing prayer
-Scripture is often proof-texted using different bible translations to fit the message
-The mention of sin and its severity is avoided
-Repentance is rarely mentioned and only under the purpose of self improvement.
-Maybe 5% of people bring their bibles
Yes, Saddleback does a lot for the community and there are many wonderful people there... but their primary focus is leading people to purpose, lifestyle, & relationship improvements... moralistic therapeutic deism.
Christ and Him crucified for our sins is never, ever preached.

I remember buying "Purpose Driven life" by Rick Warren few years back and reading it every day for one year. It wasn't all bad and there are some chapters which are very sound but At the end I realized it doesn't quench my thirst for Christ and I thought I was doing it wrong. I felt very guilty about it too. So I started following Rick warren on social media (coz my friend was such a fan) and in one interview he said, "Its hard for man to go to Hell" and i was like well that's strange, that's not how Jesus said it (Matthew 7). Holy Spirit open my eyes and make me discern this kind of teaching.

    • @danbrown586
      @danbrown586 3 года назад +1

I read Purpose Driven Life several years ago. At the time, I didn't find much at all *wrong*, and his first point is one we'd all do well to remember, even as Warren himself seems to have forgotten it: "It's not about you." And even so, his use of scripture was troubling--if you wanted to check his references, you had to work at it (they were never given inline, nor at the bottom of the page, nor even at the end of the chapter--they were all the way at the end of the book), and he'd freely float from one translation to another, depending on which one sounded most like what he wanted it to say (heavily favoring The Message, which was another problem I had). But my general impression was that the bulk of what he was saying was *correct*, if obvious.
My problem with it was more the reaction to it. People who'd been in the church for 50 years or more were treating this as startling new information, when it's a very expanded, lengthy form of really basic material. Anyone who's been attending a halfway-decent church for a year should have known most of it. Sure, reminders are a good thing, but this shouldn't be new teaching. Though this, I think, is more an indictment of the church than of Warren's book.
Now, it's been 15+ years since I read it, and were I to re-read it (which I doubt I will; I have too many other books on my reading list) I'd probably find more fault--even as the broad strokes are largely correct, I suspect there are greater problems in the details than I'd previously recognized. At that time, I might have recommended it to a new believer; I doubt I would today.

My church originally was a traditional and conservative Baptist church. When our senior pastor retired, the search committee hired a young fellow who turned out to be a seeker sensitive dude. He presented the "casting a vision" idea at us, and many long time members walked out and never came back. This past July, the elders asked him to resign because more members threatened to leave.
Now, once again, we have no pastor. The new search committee has been organized, and have invited us members to submit questions we want answered by prospective candidates. Please pray that this time, it won't be a "business decision", but instead it will be a biblical one.
Thanks, Alan, for taking on this important topic. I'm still healing from this disaster that hurt a lot of people. 👍🤔🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Some of the preaching was solid but never the salvation message. I was there 10 years and did tons of outreach with them and brought my hard hitting Gospel tracts to try and counter the cotton candy. On the bright side hundreds of Bibles and thousands of tracts, daily bread devotionals, etc..., were distributed. Praise God. I too was once caught up in the whole charismatic, word of faith movement for decades but always thirsted for something more. Someone from the same church I went to expressed their own concerns with what was going on and shared that they discovered the "American Gospel" documentary and had me watch it. That was the first time hearing a solid presentation of the Gospel and it changed my perspective on everything. Shortly after that, I left that church. That was at the beginning of 2020 and I am so glad to know the true Gospel.

I found my way to your channel when we recently found ourselves in a "seeker sensitive" church and I felt that something was amiss. After a few more visits it became evident that something was not right. I started to research and learned more about this movement. I have been a Christian for many, many years and attended only Biblically based churches so was astute to the misuse of Scripture and the missing focus that I was used to and missing from this current church. So much of what they say can sound easily justified, even with Scripture references, and many are led astray because of that. Lol at the seeker sensitive ad that was placed near the end of this video. I know it's not of Polite Leaders doing. Just funny. Great video again! I know many that go to these types of "churchs." As a former member of AA I know what it's like to be in a room full of people that don't really belong there. Not that I adhere to any of AA's teachings any longer but when I attended there was an orthodox view of recovery that many followed to successful abstinence and there was a liberal view that was very soft and ineffective and welcomed within its meetings any that struggled with a wide range of psychological and spiritual difficulties. These meetings no longer served people desperately wanting to escape their sin of over indulgence and it's consequences but turned into group therapy where love and tolerance of sin was the answer instead of the plan of recovery as laid out within AA's 12 steps. I haven't attend a seeker sensitive church but the people that I've run across that do attend all give me the impression that orthodoxy and doctrine are for those other "super Christians." It just seems to show itself in how they converse about God and irreverent slights towards biblical truth. Im surrounded by Andy Stanleys campuses here in Atlanta. Ive loathed his obfuscation of Gods word since the day I was saved. If its new its not true.

One I just listened to, barely grazed on false teachers, was called “Make Every Effort to “be good”” and not once was sin or repentance mentioned. The closest word to sin was the use of wicked a few times. I was pretty saddened and appalled if I’m honest. I know other members of the church who don’t mind watching Joel Osteen, reading/quoting Rick Warren, and using Beth Moore videos for small group studies.

I found myself in one of these seeker movement church for 10 years. I even interned and they had me read business books and rick warrens book about how saddleback church began. Everything you said is correct and true. I finally left when they kicked me out for speaking the truth. In fact they made sure no one contacted me back the moment i was walked of church campus. But today i can now see that me being exiled from there was a blessing from God. Now i spend my time at Grace community church and learning and realizing the many things i was taught wrong from this seeker movement church. These types of churches treat a church like a corporation, its ridiculous.

I attended a Christian Reformed Church at Wishart in Brisbane Australia. I left after the Church introduced the Book Seeker Sensitive Church as their model for outreach. I read it and was appalled by it for the reasons that you mentioned. Additionally the same person running that program gave a Sermon the Prodigal son based on the writings of a Catholic Priest. I complained to the person involved and he reported me to the session for calling him a false preacher and the session demanded that I apologise to him despite me providing proof from scripture and theologians about the grave errors that he was teaching. I didn't apologise because I couldn't. I just left. Some parts of the Reformed Church have fallen into grave error.

  • @danbrown586

I think the biggest disconnect comes down to one question: what is the purpose of the church's weekly gatherings? Are we there to reach the lost, or are we there to gather as God's people to offer public worship to him? If the former, then Schuler's approach makes perfect sense. If the latter, then the service is for the sheep--the goats really aren't part of it. They're welcome, of course, but we shouldn't expect it to be to their taste, or that they'd feel particularly comfortable there.
Evangelism is important, of course--it's the primary command given to the church in Matt. 28:19. But that command is not to go and make *converts*, but to go and make *disciples*.

Ministries, such as this one, and friends and family helped me to see that those weren't churches preaching the gospel but an abomination made up of parts American business and Revivalism cult. I am now attending seminary at Westminster Seminary California and hope to one day - God willing - be a well-equipped minister of God's Word who faithfully feeds His sheep.

There are many seeker-sensitive church organizations here in the Philippines and they are very popular. I am a former member of one of these types of churches. Although I knew Christ and the gospel because of them, I realized later on through careful research and listening to expository sermons and channels like this that these types of churches are unhealthy and bad. Recently I listened to a sermon from Dr. Phil Johnson about Gimmicks in Today's Evangelical Preaching and the gimmicks that Dr. Johnson mentioned exactly pointed out what my former church is doing. In addition to that, they ordained women as "pastors." Many young people on high school and college campuses enter these churches because some student or an evangelist shared the gospel with them. These churches are filled with mostly young people because they are enamored by what they see and hear inside the church. It satisfies their senses. We can't deny the fact that there are really saved people in these types of churches but they still lack spiritual discernment, knowledge, and understanding and they need to be in a place of gathering where they can grow and strengthen their relationship with Christ.

Bobby Schuler, who I think is Robert's grandson, now runs Hour Of Power, and he seems a very, very nice man with a lovely sense of humour, yet he is carrying on the same "me me" teaching as what's been presented before in his church. Like Joel Osteen's Lakewood, they have a creed they recite during the service, but it's actually even more self-centred than at Lakewood. I remember B. Schuler once saying that he believed God created man because He was lonely, which gives a horrible view of God being deficient without us.

I would like to add that one of the most Important marks of a church is 1 corinthians 14 , that , when you gather together .. LET EACH ONE OF YOU SHARE .. and v30 reveals it is the Holy Spirit who is the one to be in control of such assembling together and REVELATION. But the exaltation of offices , and gifts like pastors and teachers have focused all the attention to themselves and their gift .. rather than releasing gifts in everyone and equipping others so that the body of Christ is choked and the glory of the Holy Spirit is given to one leader .. who should , ...according to Ephesians 4 , be equipping the body of Christ for THEM to do the work of the ministry, by that which EVERY joint supplies. ... . and finding THIS model is like trying to find hens teeth .

If the church were doing her job as a whole, each of her members would be focusing on individual discipleship instead of leaving pastors to water down the gospel to make it more palatable to those who are not hungry for God, and otherwise do not belong in church. Pastors should be in the business of handing down solid, tested, meat & potatoes doctrine and theology. It's up to the mature among us to spoon-feed the baby Christians we've discipled, and then when they become mature, they spoon-feed the babies the Lord has spawned through their lives. We have it backwards now, and that's why we have the seeker-sensitive movement.

Hey Mr.Dude🙂...so I'm probably gonna get roasted for this, but my church partnered with Saddleback model in 2015 I think. We opened a Peace Center in 2017. I helped build the Peace Center and volunteered at it until this last year. Our church is all about serving the community around us. We especially work with homeless and the people others consider less than. I'm not saying I agree with Rick Warren because I do not, and even though our church partners with Saddleback and their peace plan, I do know that at least the people I have volunteered with, at least the ones at the Peace Center love Jesus and want nothing more than bring the hurting to the gospel of the grace of Jesus. Our church says " come as you are" because we believe if we can help to feel God's love, then when they come to church, God will change them . I don't know. I haven't been really attending lately because I've been studying more of the reformed type churches, but isn't that what Jesus teaches us, to reach out to hurting people and show them God's kindness? How is this bad? Anyway, thanks Rick...praying for you my dude. Talk soon. 🙂

These churches also preach and enforce tithing as you are to give 10% of your gross income plus give offerings and support programs throughout the year. In order to "serve" in ministry, you must do this. Then they of course preach that everyone should be serving. That is big business and big money with these places. Yes, they give a lot to charities (but they have to in order to get the tax breaks on top of being 501c3 organizations.
