This guy seems like a genuine nice person and good Chef
He is!
This guy makes me want to be a better person.
Dave dude u r soo damn right
Dave 🌈😳🌈
Agreed! 😊
This is seriously how cooking goes in most rural Filipino households. During fiestas and celebrations, those large woks and long laddles come out and you cook a bunch of different stews and everyone's butchering chickens and pigs, or chopping up veggies and just really coming together. The island nations seem to have that way, very communal and together..
My Mom and Dad are 100% Filipino !! hell yeah LOL.
Not half or part Hawaiian ( Polynesian ) like most Filipinos in Hawaii claim.. Respect to that Chef
you pretty much capture the essence of how it is done in Hawaii, as we call back yard style. Hawaiian home cooking. every dish presented in this piece is going to be present at any gathering of this nature. those are the best. great piece.
his dad's heavy pidgin accent is so endearing to me.
Sheldon is such a simple and genuine person. his love for his family and his roots always shows
Reminds me of my family; half native American half Congolese. Granddad hunting for for food to save money and learning how to grow foods and be crafty when it comes to food. Sardines, canned tuna, caught fish, game, spam, etc were always in the household. And my grandma, uncle, aunt, and cousin used to live on Oahu for years
Love your story, Sheldon. This reminds me of my family. Thanks for representing Filipinos in America. Mabuhay to all, from Chicago.
Fun fact: 2 out of every 3 Filipino uncles have gout.
love how he is so positive about life despite all the hardships he went through
This is probably the best family meal I've seen on this entire channel. Awesome Chef and an example of a happy family.

Big fan of you bro, ever since seeing you complete the first time on Top Chef. I guess I'm bias, but you should taken it home on Top Chef. Well, continued success with your restaurant and on whatever you set your mind to, mabuhay.

I absolutely love that fern (pako) salad. One thing i missed about Mindanao when I was living in Manila.
the fern salad looks so good!
OMG he's using really traditional Filipino ingredients! Which part of the Philippines were his parents from? The fern shoots, the turmeric leaves, we use those for cooking! The fern shoots we usually cook as a vegetable and sometimes blanch and make it into a salad. The turmeric leaves we usually use for cooking pork stew and sometimes use it to wrap food we steam or grill.
EJ Padua his grandparents are from Ilocos Norte
Janice Simeon that explains the pinakbet its an ilocano dish.
I loved this video! Thank you.
Tin Roof has amazing food. I would go back to Maui just for Sheldon's grinds.
I love this so much!! The food looks so bomb!!
Great camera work and even better recipes! Love the content!
He is cooking ferns! wow!! In the Philippines (visayas area) we call it "paku" and cook it with coconut milk..
we have a lot of names of it here, one being "pako" also.
in Malaysia we called it 'paku' too, how rad was that? lol
It's pohole ferns
Here in New Zealand, the maori people call them "piko-piko"
