I love that we are able to get someone like chef Simeon who is so knowledgeable about the history of the food from our home. I don’t think I would choose anyone else to share these recipes from Hawai’i.
True agreed to all; but the bro side of me wants a Hawaiian chef on the scene who’s all serious and edgelord 😄… maybe antithetical, but I’m interested in seeing that twisted charm
Chef Sheldon always cook 's with Aloha. That's why his dishes are one of a kind and is so ono. He is not ashamed of his roots and displays it in his cooking. Growing up in Kalihi I can still smell the dishes my mom prepared. And the sardines and onions is my dad's favorite which I grew up enjoying. Stay safe out there Chef Sheldon and you have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas
There is so much ALOHA in this video. Thank you, Chef Simeon, for sharing the flavors, stories, and rich cultures of Hawaii, one of the most special places on earth. 🌺
Tin Roof was definitely one of our highlights in Maui during our recent visit. The meals were so effing delicious!!! Definitely recommend if on the island. Thanks Chef!!!
His knowledge of history when it comes to all the ingredients he’s using, where it comes from, how and when it was integrated into his culture is amazing. His love for his craft and home is truly inspiring
Hahaha, I've got dear friends upcountry maui, when we go to visit them that's one of my favorite things, sitting around drinking 🍻 some good clod beers and doing shots of chili pepper water!!
I went to a Hawaiian inspired takeaway for lunch here in Singapore after watching this video. I asked for pupus and the staff looked confused, horrified and scared. I'm guessing pupus haven't yet made a splash outside of the Aloha State?
Wow, I didn't even make that connection until I read your comment. I've heard it plenty of times from family. Now it's freaking me out because I don't know where THEY picked it up.
@@skroll82 bruh I think there was a huge surge of fascination into hawaiian/Polynesian culture in American pop culture at some point while our parents were children
I'm Brazilian. His Portuguese-creole-like pronunciation of "cruzes!" ("crosses!") just made me guffaw. Took me a few seconds to understand what he was saying, but then loud laughter.
there is such a japanese influence to this day that instead of teaching spanish as the second language in public schools like the ones all across the mainland, they actually teach most commonly japanese.
In Puerto Rico we have ajies caballeros we make Pique wich is quite similar to his pepper water. When he put all those. Chiles in the blender 🥵 hay caramba thats gonna be hot.
Sheldon just joined the ranks of Isaac and Lucas as my favorite Munchies chefs. Great culinary history lesson, great food, and great passion for their crafts

This all looks incredible. I love when a chef has that kind of passion.

Can we all agree that this man is a treasure?! Food isn't here just to keep us alive, but to keep cultures and history alive as well!

I LOVE that Sheldon (and Vice/Munchies) is spreading education about the food of Hawaii🤙🏼so awesome!

"What kind of pupu do you want?"
"Pipi, please."
"So, pipi pupu?"
"Yes. Pipi Pupu please."
Oh and by the way, where can i do the peepee poopoo?
My 5 year old son was watching and as soon as he said pupus, my son said
"poopoo?!!" and laughed following with another laugh when he said "peepee."
Food looks sooo delicious 😋
Can't wait till your son tell someone you were watching videos on how to eat pupus and pee pee
The auto generated subtitles are crazy at the start
do you accept eating poo poo?
"In the simeone household, we're known for heavy poo poos" auto-generated caption
I laughed when he said he's known for heavy pupus! Looks hella bomb tho.
Pupus nowadays in hawaii is pretty much anything that you can eat with beer. Boiled peanuts, smoke meat, poke, dried aku, lil smokies, etc
Love the history lesson with food
Thank you for showing these dishes
4:05 “We’re known for heavy poopoos.”😈

Me: Whats for dinner?
Sheldon: peepee and poopoo.
I got Sheldons beautiful cookbook. So happy to see these videos listening to him tell story and make some tasty ono food.
I could listen to him all day
I've known the term Pupu Platter since I was a child, now I actually know what it means.

I know so many random facts about Hawaiian culture that I don't know where it came from
3:57 An oven cannot simulate sun-drying. The former cooks food with convected + radiated heat. Drying is different.

Chef: pupus shell
RUclips: poo poo shell💀
Sheldon you are historian of food and Hawaii culture!
This dude is a national treasure
My Brother, you had me drowning, my mouth was watering so,so bad,😂 lol thank you so much
Go to this place when ever I’m in Maui. Super delicious

Aloha, Thanks for the sardine recipe, simple and easy!
gonna be trying some of that sardine dish later 2moro ; thanks CHEF Sheldon for the recipes =] ALOHA

Love your cooking style. And a huge fan of sardines....
WHY DOESNT HE EVEN CRACK A SMILE WHE HE SAYS PEE PEE POO POO
This dude legit no-sold all the pee pee, poo poo jokes.
Because it's his culture and he respects it.
After eating it and being around it for many years it doesn’t even have an effect anymore
These are words with a different meaning in the Hawaiian language. It doesn’t have those associations for us
When is your pupu book coming out??!!
In Puerto Rico we have ajies caballeros we make Pique wich is quite similar to his pepper water. When he put all those. Chiles in the blender 🥵 hay caramba thats gonna be hot.
lots of pipi and pupu in this video! My 7 year old brain is loving it!
fantastic, I've been entertained and educated !
Wooo!!! Sheldon!!!
Ramsay : bit of butter = 1 stick
Sheldon : bit of ginger = 3 large roots.
Me: 👍😍

Every sunday morning lol

Awesome getting to know Hawaiian gastronomy
How do I get ahold of these recipes?? 🤩
Love the history! So cool
Loving this chef's special ingredient
PASSION
Watching this while making pupus of my own 😬
2 days later… again making pupus while watching a guy do a great pupus
Noticed the ap hat. Didn’t know he trained. Cool
I’d hire Sheldon to fly to mainland to chef for my daughter’s first birthday for sure
love talking about pipi and pupu
The closed caption is hilarious
That beef would probably make such a bomb sandwich. Especially if it was topped with a bit more of that chili pepper relish.
i read the title as pupusas and was confused for a hot minute lol
4:56 “Onto another poopoo.”😎

@@MrVovansim holy crap, he is! Just without the dangerous knife games.

It looks absolutely delicious, but man....
I got the humor of a 4 year old
"Expand your mind on what poo poos can be, guys."
pupu is like pulutan here in PH
Poo poo and pee pee cola? I'm in.
I need to go for a pupu right now what a coincidence
13:38 It's not Sheldon Simeon dish if he doesn't drop some LEMON OIL!
I swear he puts this on almost all his cooking video.
That lemon olive oil has legit changed my dining life. Some food will never be the same after his versions.
Fucking Love Sheldon!!! Much Love From Texas Brother!!!
Damn, that ginger is beautiful.
“We’re known for our heavy pupus”
So you’re telling me it’s a Pipi pupu now?
I love pipi with my pupu
This legitimately feels like a April fools troll video.
Food looks good but the name he’s trying to normalize gets funnier the more he says it lol. “Heavy pupus”
I eat da pupu
Yah u!
Pastor Martin Senpai has left the chat.
Heavy pupus. Heh. Just kidding, great video. :D
How do you spell that Portuguese word, cause it didn't sound like Portuguese at all.
One doesn’t experience self-transcendence, the illusion of self only dissipates-🎈
Im not mature enough for this video lmao
Is he trolling?! All I hear is "PooPoo" "light PooPoo" "heavy PooPoo" "PeePee" and "Kamehameha"
😂😂😂
Why would you think it’s trolling? Have you heard of other languages? These are Hawaiian language terms and names.
making a pipi pupu lol
Love it!
But the sodium intake, is immense.
I am going to do chinook salmon, the exact way you did the tuna. It should hold together, I hope lol
Thought this man’s name was Sheldon salmon
