    Very accurately done and explained. These values are based on perfect exposures too, something quite rare. In the real world ISO 800 is just a tad noisier than 400 but good enough to use for anything giving a shutter speed buffer without using auto-ISO. In dim light the faster shutter speed will give you better image quality compared to 400 and a marginal SS unless on a tripod. For night shots around a city, for example, I'll shoot in manual mode
    @ ISO 800 and keep an eye on the SS and what I'm shooting of course. Auto ISO often chooses an unnecessarily high ISO for static scenes.
    On the Z8 this "second base" is 500 ISO.

      Thank you, I have a video coming over the next month or so on the Z8 including it's second base ISO and a more indepth look into. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Kieran. I use the Nikon D610 as a second camera body, but thought of changing to the z6ii. Is it worth the upgrade, and is focus much better on z6ii than d610 and how does it compare to the canon r6? thanks for your tutorials.

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  Год назад

      Hi and thanks for watching... The D610 is still a very good camera (I have a D600 here my wife uses) and to be fair the Focusing was always very good although it also depends a lot on the lens you are using with it. If you are thinking about it then I would say wait as the Z6iii is going to be announced shortly with hopefully a delivery time of late Q1 2023 although it is looking more April / May now to be honest. The focusing system is going to be a lot better and advances for video will be massive also. I have an article here on the Z6iii if you are interested (I wrote it back in August)... www.landscapephotographyireland.com/nikon-z6iii-news-and-when-will-it-be-released/
      The announcement was expected in Oct Nov of this year but it looks like Nikon are waiting on that to see how the court case goes between them and Red over video patents. Also serious component shortages kicking in now too. I hope that helps a small bit.

    You said raising the ISO captures more light but it doesn't, the aperture size captures more or less light light depending on what aperture you use, shutter speed allow light into the sensor for longer and ISO increases gain. It's kind of like recording a low level audio signal and then using gain to boost that sound level, what you do is increase noise. I nearly always use ISO100-200 and if I need anymore light into the sensor I decrease the shutter speed a tad and increase the aperture. The only time I go above ISO200 is when I need an extremely fast shutter speed like when photography fast moving subjects, if something isn't moving and I need more light than ISO200 can give me then I use a tripod and a long shutter speed.

      I kind of did and I didn't, I was talking about getting enough light to capture your image and explain it as simply as I could. Did you watch the whole video?
      I talk about Dual native ISO and how important it is to know the second native ISO point of your camera. Yes, if you want to be theoretical there is no Native ISO point on any camera sensor as it is all done by an amplifier before the analogue to digital conversion. The remaining ISO boosts are actually all performed after the signal has passed through the ADC and as such introduce noise via the amplification process so your band on their.
      The only exception to this is the second Native ISO point which was the whole point of doing this video.
      Apologies if there was any confusion with that. I plan to put up a full video one of these days on how Dual Native ISO works.

    Hi, do you have any idea how its possible, that my pictures of a higher ISO (above 2000 is a nightmare 😒). I have nikon z6ii and noise reduction is turn off

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  4 месяца назад

      Hi Pavel, when you say they are a disaster are they very noisy or is noise just more visible? It's also very important to get your exposure right when you are shooting higher ISO's. If you are boosting the exposure or shadows in post you are going to really see noise then.
      The other thing here is what you might consider a disaster is what others find very acceptable, personally I am happy up till about ISO 1,600 at a push but I prefer to stay at or below ISO 800.

    New to your channel Kieran , I just picked up a refurbished Z6ll from Nikon a couple of days ago . Going to put it through it's paces and make sure everything is functioning well . Great tip with the ISO . Looking forward to more of your content on this camera , as well as the Z7ll . Was wondering if you've done any nighttime photography with the Z6ll , supposed to be great in low light .

      Hi and thanks for watching the video and glad you enjoyed it, I have another video up on how to extend the shutter speeds of the Z6ii that might be of interest to you :-), I have used the Z6ii in a good few low light situations and it handles it really well. A noticeable difference over my Z7ii. Then again with pixel density and surface area that's to be expected. New video going up soon about the differences between the Z6ii and Z7ii soon, looking forward to that one as it's not as straight forward as people might think :-)

    interesting, so is this like a similar thing to astro cameras with a CMOS sensor where you have the optimum gain? for the least noise to signal

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  Год назад +2

      Hi Paul, it a very interesting bit of technology and it's actually very complicated in the way it works. The sensor always has the same sensitivity to light what changes is when you hit ISO 800 (in this cameras case) the signal output from the sensor goes to a different analogue amplifier which is far higher gain than the normal one and then has extra noise cancelling applied also, it then goes through an analogue to digital converter and is then amplified again and goes through the normal image path. So basically it just uses two amps and noise cancelling which is ideal for higher ISO but not needed on lower ISO's. Hope that helps a bit more.

    What set up are you running in order to get the tethering to work so smoothly?

    • @kieranhayesphotography
      @kieranhayesphotography  Год назад +2

      Hi Benjamin, I am using a PC and running Lightroom, lightroom is a bit of a bottleneck as it takes about 1.5 seconds to display the shot on screen. Capture one is faster for tethering but I have always used Lightroom. I had a fashion shoot last Saturday and shot tethered again and it was flawless, apart from the slight delay. In saying that my workstation is running at 5.2ghz on 8 cores with 64gb of Ram and an Rtx 3080ti GPU, I am also using a 2tb M.2 drive for storage. Also using a tether tools USB tethering cable. Hope that helps 👍
