- Join me on a quick winter bikepacking shakedown ride with Jay Petervary and 16 year-old Jacob Hora, as they do final prep for the ITI (Iditarod Trail Invitational). I had a blast riding and chatting with the dynamic duo about their upcoming adventure in Alaska. These are two fantastic friends and inspirational athletes. If they don't motivate you to get on your bike and pursue your goals, I don't know what will! Show them some love in the comments below! #ridebikeswithfriends #rideforward #pursueyourdreams

Ride bikes. 🚲 Drink beer. 🍺 Live happy. 😀 - Спорт
Allen, You did such a great job here. I thank you immensely for capturing this and giving it a place to live. I also appreciate every single comment here. Thank you all for watching, supporting and following along. I am the lucky one in this situation. #RideForward
Thanks, Jay :) Your kind words are appreciated! I'll be stalking your blue dot, and look forward to riding with y'all again soon - GET SOME!
All of our youth needs a big brother/sister like this. All of them.
Marc - 100% true. Thanks for sharing! Ride on :)
Luckiest kid I know.. What a great opportunity for both of them. What a great ambassador for the sport and being a true giver.. I showed this to my 15 year old, he was blown away.. Thanks for sharing the experience..
Glad you and your son enjoyed it, Ross... Jacob sure is lucky, and he's super grateful and humble, and just a great kid... Ride on!
Thanks for sharing,,, epic stuff for sure...
I move forward as punishment to reap the rewards of my bad choices over the year's in hopes that I can right do them 100 yards at a time... This is how I bike walk too the top of any mountain I encounter... There is no turning back since it only furthers the pain of more punishment { For Not Going Forward. }
Thank You for completing my own journey in life...
Let the Fat Tire Roll !!!
I simultaneously had the biggest smile on my face & tears welling while listening to this wonderful prelude to these guys’ 1st AK story!! ✨Their bond is special & no doubt their memories will be too🥳👌✨
Corina, thanks for watching and commenting :) Looks like they're riding strong and past the 1/2 way point - so stoked for them!
Wow Alan! Great video, well done! Thanks for capturing this. Loved it! Gave me chills and made me smile. I'm super stoked for JayP and Jacob aka Protojay, in so many ways! Wishing them safe travels and a FUN time!! #RideForward
Awesomeness!
Thanks, Tracey :) Glad you enjoyed! I'm lookin' forward to seeing Rippin' and Chillin' again soon... Ride on!
Very cool video. Exciting and inspiring for both Jacob and Jay.
demoner1 - thanks for watching and commenting - so stoked for them... looks like they're past the 1/2 way point and riding strong!
One lucky kid . It is so cool to have Jay as a mentor , teacher , riding partner and a friend . Good luck guys and thanks for great story !
Thanks for watching and commenting, Marcin :) Ride on! Looks like they're doing well, more than 1/2 way through!
This is such a rare thing. So very few of us get the opportunity to be mentored and to learn the ropes from someone who is highly skilled and experienced. Most of us are forced to simply do the best we can as we muddle through on our own. I'm sure Jacob understands how fortunate he is, and it's wonderful to see the way Jay is investing in him. It does my heart good to be given a small glimpse into this kind of partnership. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Mike, thanks for watching and commenting - I can tell you, Jacob definitely counts his blessings and is super appreciative of his opportunities. He's a fantastic young man, which makes it even more enjoyable to cheer for them ;) Ride on!
We (me and my 12 year old daughter) are rootin' for ya!
My eyes are glued to trackleaders - they're doing great! Thanks for watching and commenting, Amy :)
Wow!!! what a great positive story. Thanks from Seattle
Glad you enjoyed the video, Mike - ride on!
Great vid as always Alan. J & J will crush it! Also, dig the new tag line.
Jeremy, you noticed :) ya- started doing a #trailmagicmonday campaign with Patreon funds... trying to give back and pay it forward as much as possible!! www.patreon.com/dirtyteethmtb
Thank you for making this! What a great video! I have always admired JayP and seeing this candid, personal insight was amazing. What a great relationship Jay and Jacob have. I wish them all the best and will be following them at the ITI!
Hey ... I know you, if this is same Dan W who lives in SE Michigan, it's Mike R
Agree on this video, what a journey..
@@mtbdudex Yep. Hey Mike!
Thanks for watching and commenting, Dan :) Looks like they're past the 1/2 way point and riding strong - so stoked for them!
I listened to a Jay Petervary podcast last week, what a total legend that guy is! Great video Alan & best of luck to JP & Jacob for Idetarod.
they're a great duo - I can't wait to hear their stories when they get back!
This is quality! To see the mentorship occur at this level is inspiring and truly heartwarming. A well-told story of high-quality people doing cool stuff.

Duuuddeeee, Legendary!
#dreamteam

Good luck guys , It is inspiring me to do something again pretty soon, I have canoed both Yukon river quest and the Yukon 1000 canoe race along with a list of other endurance races , I have never one a single event but you know there are a lot more people like me just doing it for the adventure than those that will come in at the top 3 .I get your adventure spirit . wishing you Great Success
Thanks for chiming in The Woodjedi :) Sounds like you are not lacking in adventure!! Keep on doing what you love :)
Inspiring. Thanks for sharing 🙌🏻🙏🏻
Yes, they truly are inspiring - ride on, El Viejo Pull!
Very cool love this! When I was a kid in NW Ohio in the mid 60's I had a 5 AM paper route and nobody in my family drove a car so it was up to me. I have no idea how I did it on my 10 speed Varsity or some shitty one speed. Have a great ride guys. Oh Dirty Teeth this is a great video, your best.
Stephen, thanks for chiming in - and for the kind words :) Ride on!
2 days ago I had just finished watching the 2017 ITI Safety to Nome on amazon prime, then seeing this ....
Ok - this touched me on levels I was not prepared for, I cried watching it.
Great work Allen capturing the evolving story, how kindred souls meet and push each other, learn from each other.
Jay - kudos sir on your mentorship, Jacob - kudos young man for inspiring so many.
I'm 58 , and ride fatties 4 seasons with my 15 & 17 year old sons, this video showed them what's possible; the power and will comes from inside, the learnings and overcome mindset from mentorship - and doing.
mtbdudex - thank you so much for taking the time to share these kind words :) it means a ton! looks like they're past the 1/2 way point and riding strong - so stoked for them!!! I wish the best for you and your sons and the power of bicycle is not to be underestimated :) ride on!
What a great video ! It is such a great insight into JayP’s ways and bike shop!!! Yes it a frickin full blown bike shop, and outdoor adventure shop. Man what great short video ! Thank you.
Thanks, Jerome - yeah, his mancave/office/workshop setup is pretty darn sweet :) Lots of tinkering going on in there... Ride on!
That’s what it’s about - love to see the mentoring going on! Safe travels and health to you guys all 350.
Right? pretty awesome! thanks for watching :)
Phenomenal video. Keep it up. I’ve learned more from your channel in 5 hours vs. the last 5 years. Thanks Dirty Teeth!

@@DirtyTeethMTB To you as well brother. I did the smoke and fire 5 years ago and can’t wait to get back too it. It was great seeing those familiar roads. Sorry about the crash you had. Almost lost it in the same spot. Keep the videos coming. Love them

Attila, thanks for watching and commenting - yeah, tons of respect for every ITI athlete - ride on!
I have a friend , I met at Tuscobia . Like Jacob , he is an ITI rookie, only Frank is 51 years older than this young man! 😀.
Frank is my new idol. Will be watching his dot!!
This was very interesting and looks like it will be quite a challenge. Amazing scenery as always. :)
Pretty much the pinnacle of fat biking/ winter ultras... can't fathom giving at a go at age 16 - but Jacob is mature and hungry and smart... they make a great team :)
Good stuff Jaco....go enjoy your journey Jake n Jay
KC, will I see you at Stagecoach?
Great video
thanks, Jussi - ride on!

Love this story!
Mary, thanks for watching and commenting - all the best :)
Best of luck to Jay and Jacob. I doubt they need it, and plan on watching the dot once event begins.
I doubt they need it either... they make a fantastic duo!
Excellent movie, I watched Jay on one of the formal ITI movies, amazing challenge.
thanks, David - both he and Jacob are so motivational, I could feel it rubbing off on me the whole time we were riding!
@@DirtyTeethMTB I was planning to do the fat Viking in Norway but Covid cancelled that as a possible prelude to the ITI. Which would be a challenge most certainly. Will have to see. I am full time retired now ( .....so far anyway) so would Like to try some of these crazy races. My racing days were a Long time ago and I used to race rollers. So the race was usually over 8 seconds and 400m later.... back in bed ..... simples.
One of the best part of living in Alaska is being able to live the Iditarod when I leave my front door. Haha
JeremyWM - it's pretty nice to love where you live, right? blessed :)
@@DirtyTeethMTB I love living in Alaska.. Other then all the bears and everything else wanting to kill me everytime I walk outside
So rad. Not a big Jay P fan, but its really cool that he's mentoring Jacob through the ITI. If he can make it 350 miles through the Alaskan winter, he'll be ready for anything. Also, anyone else jealous of all the snow in eastern ID? It snowed a little bit here in Boise, but its leaving fast. Rode a bone dry trail this morning...
Carl thanks for watching and commenting... looks like they're riding strong and past the 1/2 way point - I'm actually kinda jealous of your Boise dirt actually... :) I've been only on my fat bike for the last three months and I'm staring at my MTB jonsin for some hero dirt!! Ride on :)
They're doing incredible! Must be pretty nice conditions this year. Also, heck yes! Git on over here to Boise sometime soon. Dan Kelly can show you all the good stuff over here. I'll keep up for a few hours max before y'all rip my legs completely off.
@@carlanderson9873 indeed, I'm looking forward to getting over to Boise soon - let's ride :)
That is exactly how my garage ended up looking like, too.
Haha, I wish that's how my garage looked :) Ride on!
JP is a living Idahoan legend!!! \../
#truth - thanks for watching and commenting Julio... :)
@@DirtyTeethMTB This Iditarod shall be filmed and made as a documentary... just saying!
@@TarmacSkin they might be taking a GoPro and a pocket full of batteries with them to ITI - just saying!
Looks like Rebecca Rusch is heading up there too.
Yep, she'll be heading up with her husband Greg as well... Idaho is representing :)
You seem like you got your gear pretty solid, but did your learn any tips from the legend?
Hunter, yes - I've definitely learned MANY tips from Jay... he's on another level with experience... never stop learning!!! -- I'm putting out a bike check of their ITI rigs soon... plenty of good tips in there... stay tuned :)
Mentorship. So much more powerful when it just happens.
Matt, so true :) Thanks for watching and commenting!
I hate that I lost interest in this vid at the "plandemic" narrative . And with to much to comment on I choose not to even open that can.
thanks for taking the time to type a comment :)
