- The 2023 Arrowhead Ultra 135 was my first winter fat bike ultra! It did not disappoint, after watching the documentary Safety to Nome I went down the winter ultra rabbit hole and found myself signing up for Arrowhead. Surprised when I got in I found myself scrambling to put all of my mountaineering gear together with the bike stuff I owned and came up with a good kit

In 2023 the course consisted of firm snow with temperatures dipping down to -36F at night and highs of about -5F, it was chilly, but that was the point of going! This was much harder than I expected it to be. Check out the video for my recap and clips from during the race. I wish I recorded more during but keeping my fingers and keeping battery just seemed more important at the time.
It took me 29 hours and 59 minutes to finish on the bike. This put me mid pack, 27 of 77 starters, only 47 bikes finished. Overall 149 people toed the line that morning on foot, skis or bike and 75 finished keeping the finish rate low!
Huge thanks to the race directors Ken and Jackie, along with all of the amazing volunteers for putting it together and making it a great, world class race!

Thanks for providing such a good resource. Arrowhead 135 has been on my radar for some years now and hopefully I'll get to do it (maybe '25/'26). Doing your first ultra is such a massive learning curve, so well done for completing the course and overcoming your mechanical problems. Fergal. Dublin,Ireland.
Thank you, Im glad it was helpful! In my opinion the shorter winter ultra was more difficult than longer warm weather ultras I've done. Of course its different things that make it hard. I hope you do it in the next few years, good luck!
Finisher number 41 here. You did a great job documenting the race given the conditions.
Thank you for watching! It was a tough race! I wasnt quite sure what to expect going into it but I was happy to make it through. Congrats on your finish! Do you plan to race it again?
@@RyanSarka Yes. My current plan is to do it next year. I'm also planning to do Tuscobia and Actif Epica.
@@ccbredeson Good luck at each of those!
good information.
Glad it was helpful
Inspiring stuff, buddy! Keep embracing discomfort!
Thank you, there's certainly something about it that keeps me wanting those types of challenges.
Awesome vlog brother. Great job finishing, starting of the year strong!
Thank you! I was definitely happy getting it done, especially being something that’s in a way new to me.
