Wow, excellent job on the fully loaded bike weight! Also, what a great list. I'm sure you'll do fine but wise of you to have some healthy fear, but I fully expect you to return with great stories and experience. I'm in AK and you have an awesome load out, I certainly learned a lot. Can't wait to hear about it!
Thanks, William - it was so much fun!!
@@DirtyTeethMTB Awesome!!!
Pulling for ya DT! Conditions look epic based on tracking, wow and cold on the way. Soak in your surroundings 🤪
It was great! Fast first 1/2… second half not so much 😂 but amazing nonetheless :) ride on!
Good luck on your ride! Stay warm. Cheering for ya. I know how cold cold gets ;)
Thanks, it was a great ride and definitely cold at times!!!
Thanks for the heads up on the Alugear oval chainring! I've been looking for a -4mm oval for a couple years and never had any luck finding one. I immediately ordered one and got it in 10 days, which I feel was super fast service.
Glad to help!
looking forward to hearing about how you and the gear stood up to the first Alaskan punch in the face; nice job!
Your set up and attitude looks really nailed to me. Best of luck on the ITI.
I used to carry a kitchen sink washing type brush. Head is about two inch square. Tied to my kit to brush snow off clothing shoes and bike too. Women use them in the kitchen ( lol ) ask one they will know why I mean.
Haha! Thanks for sharing, David :)
Amazing! You've got this!
Thanks, Mike!! It was awesome!!
@@DirtyTeethMTB You're back safe! Can't wait for the vid...I'm hoping there's a vid.
It might be a few weeks, because I’m going on a family vacation- but yes, there will be a video :) ride on!
@@DirtyTeethMTB I'm sure you earned that vaca.
That's great that so many people embrace the suck of freezing, inhospitable weather. Hope it was GREAT! We're now fair weather reacreational activities people 🙂
It was a blast!!! Thanks for the well wishes!!

Top 20 finish?!? Atta boy!

Awesome!!!
Thanks for watching!!
Good luck!
Thanks!!! It was a blast!!
@@DirtyTeethMTB Still following Karl 🇬🇧
Karl is here and in good spirits - anything you want me to say to him?
@@DirtyTeethMTB Just seen his Spot is ‘Fin’ 👍 Big congrats to you both
Hi thank you much appreciated appreciate the gear and where I can get it and all that kind of info very good thanks again
Thanks for watching, Michael :)
Just got done watching this and see you're currently 128 miles deep. 86 still out there and 12 drops so far. Couldn't believe it when I got to that part of the video and realised you were going tubeless! Hope it works out for ya. I'm sure you've got tubes with you in case, ay. Hopefully. Anyway... I know you won't read this till you're done, but best of luck to you!
Thank you, it was amazing! And yes, I carry spare tubes 🤙
@@DirtyTeethMTB Cool. Congrats on your finish! I kept tabs on ya here and there. Was pleased to see you'd made it in!
Wow! 56lbs.. you’re a stud man (I’m sure that’s the weight normally of a bike outfitted for such a race but as just a local rider that number boggles my mind as a beargrease @30lbs wears me out after 30-40miles!) Good luck!
My setup is actually on the lighter side believe it or not!!! Thanks for the well wishes it was a blast 🙌
Hi Alan, the titanium rack looks great, my concern is the single lower mounting bolt on each side maybe the weak point. Consider carrying an extra, preferably titanium or stainless steel.
Yes, I always carry spare rack hardware and miscellaneous bolts, clamps, etc 🤙
Small piece of potentially limb saving advice from a lifelong winter backpacker- bring some empty bread bags to protect your feet and hands in case everything else gets wet. Put them on next to your skin and then the wet socks or if you want to wear pair of damp socks at camp before you go In The tent.
They also serve as vapor barriers and weight nothing.
Good luck!!!
Thanks for the tips :)
The more I learn the more I really want to do a race like this one day! First I better start saving for a fat bike and gear though! 😳 Winter can be expensive. Any advice about how to get into fat biking on a budget would be great to see. Also can't wait to hear all about your race!
Start looking for used fat bikes or clearance bikes in the summer and just use existing cold weather clothing you already have lying around… start saving up!!! Ps it was a great ride, and thanks for the well wishes 🤙
May God Bless you while on your adventure! Let us know how your 40below vest works for you. Pedal, Pedal, Pedal 😆
Thanks!!! All my gear was great 🙌🙌 so stoked to finish without physical damage!!
Well done! What footwear did you use up there? I just checked in on your progress and your at mile 132.8, way to go!!
I used 45nrth Wolfgar boots (old lace up version) ride on!!
Like a G enjoy the ride J
Haha! It was amazing Hunter, you’d love it!
Hi, I was wondering if it would be feasible to drag a sled with your bike? Love your videos
Thanks for watching! I suppose on firm/hard packed snow, you could drag a polk or a lightweight sled… but if it gets soft or deep, no bueno!! Ride on :)
Thank you for the cool content. It might be fun to try on those groomed trails just to see what it’s like taking some weight off the bike and dragging it instead. And maybe with a custom design sled made out of carbon fiber
@dreman5547 sounds cool! I’m curious how it all works out 💪
Yeah I might give it go someday. For now we’re out of local snow. For sled design I’m thinking clamshell so if it flips you can just keep going or maybe cylindrical like a big bullet not huge, just enough to carry 15 lbs or so.
I love your shirt who makes that?
It’s made by Hand Up (they mostly make gloves) ride on !
@@DirtyTeethMTB many thanks!
I should’ve known 😉
So much can go wrong!! I loctite all those bolts too and luckily no issues with the rack on Iditarod, Fat pursuit, etc - thanks for the thoughts!! 🙏
did you consider a belt drive paired with an internal shifting hub? seems like something that would be good in extreme conditions. do folks use that set up in this race?
Yes ihg with gates/belt is always a consideration… very reliable… but most riders use traditional derailleurs/shifters with no issues- ride on :)
This guy must be busy. No new video 😜👋😁
Yep, been working , so the RUclips hobby takes a backseat :( ride on!
Great Video as always, really want to have a go at this but I'll settle for following you this year on this fantastic journey. Good luck man Enjoy x
Thanks, Graham - it was a great adventure!!! Ride on :)
@@DirtyTeethMTB looking forward to the video, if it was possible?
Yes, there will be a video… might be a few weeks because I’m going on a family vacation - but there will be one 🤙🤙
@@DirtyTeethMTB look forward toi it man. take care.
Good luck out there! Watching the dot!
Thanks, Jamison! So much fun was had!!
@@DirtyTeethMTB Happy to see you finish! I’ve got other friends still on trail and hoping conditions are improving.
Weather is warming up here in McGrath and just had dinner with a bunch of folks who just came in… anyone I should say hi to?
