JayP's Fat Pursuit 2021: DIY Winter Bikepacking Challenge | Fat Biking on Snow - Covid Style
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 янв 2021
- The Fat Pursuit is one of the best winter bikepacking races out there. Beautiful fat biking on some of Idaho's best groomed snow. This year's challenge was a little different, due to Covid - but it was a blessing Jay Petervary opted for a DIY version, instead of cancelling altogether. I was stoked to make a fun route in my hometown. Thanks for tagging along! PS - This was Day 337 & 338 of my Ride 365 Challenge :) #ridegroomed #fatpursuit #rideforward

Ride bikes. 🚴 Drink beer. 🍺 Live happy. 😀 Спорт
It’s a shame more people don’t have a happy attitude like you the world would be a much better place. 👍🏻
Jay, thanks for the kind words - it's comments like these that inspire me to keep making videos - ride on! :)
You never fail to put a smile on my face. Thank you.
Lee, reading comments like yours always puts a smile on mine :) Ride on!
To say we're envious of that winter trail system is a massive understatement. Excellent ride!
Thanks for watching!! Ride on :)
I can’t thank you enough for your content. Got into endurance biking and “races” a few years back. Love watching your videos
Willie, thanks for taking the time to comment! Best of luck!!
The Winter Ultra Community is the best. Being new to cycling , I have never considered JP's event in the past , but have been at Tuscobia. Arrowhead and Actif Epica. You have to take, one or all of these in one day !
heck yeah, the winter ultra community is the best - because it's filled with people like you, Scott! Ride on :)
You're a Rockstar, keep the great videos coming
Thanks for the kind words, Chad - ride on!
Peaky blinders is legit!
it sure is... I did go home and binge a couple episodes right after :)
Gr8 concept! Just the groomer and you! Love it when that happens!
Thanks for watching and commenting!!! Riding fresh groomers sure is bliss 🤙🤙
Greetings from the land of the real Peaky Blinders.
Love this film!
Thanks, Stephen - that proves you watched til the end :) - Cheers!
Dude what is in the Idaho coffee? Haha love the energy instant follow.
hahaha, I don't even drink coffee! thanks for the kind words, Juan :)
I really appreciate your work. These videos are great; I love how you keep things approachable. You are a great ambassador for cycling, especially fat and cold cycling
Erin, thanks for your kind words - much appreciated!!
Makes me want to bike commute to work and back. Calgary, Alberta roads and trails, 25 miles uphill, both ways. Next step, get my Vee studded tires on and go tubeless. I ride an RSD mayor fat bike with a lauf medium carbon fork, 4.8 tires. Gotta get er done! I needed the encouragement. Thanks big time.
Thanks for watching, Tim - I hope you've been commuting on your Mayor - ride on!!
Another Great Inspiring video. Loved how you made and ate your Gourmet meal. :) Nice living in a bit of Paradise too
thanks, Richard - much appreciated :)
Love the winter bikepacking!
Thanks Canadian Sled Dog - ps love that name and pic :)
@@DirtyTeethMTB cheers!
What a beautiful countryside! Thanks for sharing and what a Tour!
Thanks for watching and commenting, Sebastian :) Ride on!
You are the man! Awesome effort! So glad you were able to participate and still be close enough to home that you could bivy in your backyard. I so enjoy your channel especially in these crazy times we're in. Thanks so much.
Right on, Shane - thanks for watching... yeah, it's not often you get to design a route that takes you by your house... couldn't pass up the opportunity to hang with the kiddos and get them involved in the fun! Ride on :)
Appreciate your great attitude and your sense of adventure. See you on the trails!
thanks for your kind words :) ride on!!
Spectacular. Keep posting and keep inspiring 👊
thanks, Pete! I appreciate your motivating words! Ride on :)
Great Video and inspirational with help tips. Hook your mask on your glasses arms when popping in stores or use a double folded buff with a mask in the fold. Saves the unwrapping.
Great tip, G C - wish I would've thought of that!! thanks for watching and commenting - ride on!
In 1 word- Inspiring
thanks, Mr. Garrett - our casa su casa whenever you wanna come visit and teach me how to FISH!
Fantastic video ! cant wait to do that same ride next winter , thank you for the great tips ! cutting the bars into small nuggets !
Thanks for your kind words - ride on!
COOL DUDE!!! Thanks
thanks for watching and commenting, Ben - ride on!
Wow, that is inspirational and amazing! It is amazing the difference between Sun Valley and Pocatello. We currently have no snow in the valley.
Bruce, if you decide to come up here and check it out, I'll take ya out and show you around... it's pretty dang good right now :)
@@DirtyTeethMTB Will do and will be sure to bring some choice beers!
As we say in England " Barking mad " but in a good way ,chapeau
I love that. Barking mad! Thanks, Stephen :)
Nice Mammoth Beanie! We miss you, and your awesome stoke here on the Eastside!
Miss you and all the great Eastside peeps as well, Craig :) If you ever come out to Idaho, please give me a holler... Glad you noticed the beanie - Ride on!
Gorgeous scenery on that trail!
sure is, definitely a special place!
Great spirit to this vid! Love the crunchy sound of you putting your PPE mask on your icy beard.
haha :) that was an interesting feeling as well :) - thanks for watching and commenting, Janne - ride on!
This video was so good, ha and now I see the tips for the feed bag snacks. Great seeing you at Fatbike Worlds in Pinedale, WY.
ya man, always good catching up with you and KC - such a blast... gonna work on the fatty worlds video soon... some good memories already!! time to build an ice bar in the backyard!
So much joy watching this...drinking erdinger weissbier in Denmark and wondering if jumbo Jim is the best rolling fat bike tire out there ( Barbegazi bontrager ?) ...ride bikes check drink beer check = live happy check .....
Rasmus, glad you're checking all the boxes! thanks for watching and commenting... and making me thirsty for a beer - cheers!
You da man!
Barry, thanks for your kind words - I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment - ride on!
great stuff here. glad you need to share as much we need to view! keep in mind that other bikers need to know that nordic ski trails are NOT DE FACTO fat tire offerings. we have visitors here who trash our nordic trails, often. I say this as an all sports, all seasons, all respect person.
Greg, I hear ya - we're all nordic skiers in my family as well. Luckily, where I live, it's pretty clear which trails are open to bikes/dogs, etc and which aren't - and there's no lack of pristine, ski only trails (they don't call Sun Valley "Nordic Town USA for nothing)... that said, we all have to be ambassadors, and I've done it on both sides - as a skier letting a fat biker politely know they've veered off onto a ski only trail, or as a biker to an unruly skier, politely letting them know I'm allowed to be on this trail and conditions warrant it... you're 100% right, it's all about mutual respect! thanks for sharing :)
Geez , Sorry , Congratulations on finishing your DIY Event!
Haha, thank you Scott! Cheers :)
Awesome. I call that #freshiesonmyfatty lol
haha, I like that Daniel :) - thanks for watching and commenting - ride on!
Looks like you had your own personal groomer... Good Times!!
Kinda did, huh? I guess that's what happens when you ride long enough on trails that are groomed every day :) thanks for commenting, Julio - ride on!
Love your videos! Great content and great info as usual.
One question, what tent are you using here and how small/well does it pack down?
Christian, thanks for watching and commenting - this tent is a Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1, I believe... it's a few years old now, but they make a full line of bikepacking specific tents now... check 'em out... packs ups super small and light, especially with the newer 12" bikepacking tent poles... ride on!
Nice job! Proper winter endurance beard too! Just heard a podcast about this ride, iirc there’s a 60k version too.🤙🏻
Thanks, Elevation :) yes, there's a 60k as well... still time left to do the DIY, you have until the end of Jan, just sayin!
@@DirtyTeethMTB It made me think! I actually planned to attend the Fat Bike Worlds this past weekend, had an Airbnb and all but pulled the plug just because of how things are still out there in the world right now. 😐 Trying to refocus time and resources toward other ideas tho!🤙🏻
@@ElevationEveryWeekend I hear ya, it is super funky right now... as long as you're getting your elevation every weekend, life is good :)
Cool ! What tent did you use please ? Thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting, Patrick - when I use a tent, it's usually the Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL1 - ride on!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!! - ride on!
Just got into fat biking recently because the northeast finally got a winter. Never thought you could ride on cross country ski courses. I’ll have to check out more of your videos. Also. Has anyone ever told you your voice sounds like Kirk Van Houtens? That Milhouses dad on the Simpsons lmao
ahahhahaaa!! Scott, nobody has told me that, but that's hilarious!!! Anyhoo... thanks for watching and commenting, and stoked you've tasted fat biking :)
Whats a good hydration pack that is easy to route the hose under your layers? Thanks. Love the channe
I use a Revelate Wampak (discontinued). Has a port that goes around torso instead of over shoulder. I discuss a few ideas in this video: ruclips.net/video/OOG6HbsSXp4/видео.html -- but most folks I know use their hydration pack of choice and cut a hole for lower hose routing... I'm not sure if anyone is making a specific "winter fat biking" pack, unless Revelate brings the Wampak back... let me know if you hear of any!! Ride on!!
Alan, I can’t find your video where you explain to find your brake lever guards for cold weather. Where did you get yours?
They're cheap on Amazon: amzn.to/3va020l - ride on!
Where did you get that thermometer? Does it go to -20?
mini outdoor thermometer goes to minus-40: amzn.to/3uLYg2Y -- ride on :)
How do you do with foot wear? I have such a hard time keeping my feet warm. $600 45N boots?
Aurisnow - I'm working on a winter riding video series right now, and one will be dedicated to feet / toes... but I currently use 45nrth wolvhammers and different sock layering systems for down around 0F... if it's warmer than 15-20F, I'm in Lake 303's that I've had for years... but once you start dipping lower than O-10F, the Wolfgars are pretty much the go-to's... try chemical hand warmers on your shins/ankles... really helps to warm the blood going in/out of the feet, and wear boots at least one size too big... more room in toe box = more warmth/wiggle room- you can also try the adhesive toe warmers on top of your toes (not on the bottom)... again, I'll have a video dedicated to the topic soon :) - ride on!
Would this be practical with a regular MTB?
no unfortunately, you need the floatation of the fat tires when the snow gets softer, and regular mtb tires will sink in and ruin the trail - ride on!
Great video as usual, you really should have lots more subscribers. You live in a wonderful adventure there part of the world. Is the house next door for sale?
haha, thanks for the kind words, David - I'll let you know if the house next door goes on the market :) - ride on!
@@DirtyTeethMTB the snow we get is that junk that melts and then freezes solid so folks fall and break their hips, it lasts a week or two of solid ice and then melts leaving a pile of dark muddy yuck at the side of the path and road. I wonder if Eskimo have a name for that sort of snow, allegedly they have thousands of names for different “flavours”.
@@davidalderson7761 hahhhahahaaa!!! you're cracking me up... not sure if there's an Eskimo word for that kind of snow... but I have a few
Great video, what fat bike u riding?
Les, thanks for watching and commenting - It's an older Salsa Mukluk. If you're curious, check out this vid: ruclips.net/video/PubflElBxSY/видео.html ride on!
When are you going to make it to the Iditarod?
Ellery, hopefully in the next couple of years... but honestly, it's the financial component that's holding me back at the moment... ride on!!
Your videos have a very good tempo, and your work is certainly worthy of corporate sponsorship.
Have you solicited for this revenue?
There are several other RUclipsrs with corporate sponsors who’s work pales in comparison to your, shall I name them?
Good luck!
@@ellerybice3787 thanks for the kind words :). I make videos for fun and being obligated or pressured by "the man" might not be best for me... I get plenty of that in my day job, which, luckily, is pretty good... just hard for me to validate spending the $$$ for ITI when I have two kids and a wife that are priorities (and the time away is also a big factor) - there are plenty of great rides and races on the list are free or at least way cheaper to embark on... that being said, ITI is definitely still on the list :) - did I mention, thanks so much for the kind words? :) -- ride on!
Is there still time to do this 🤔
YES, you have until Jan 31st :)
@@DirtyTeethMTB thanks man I need a good adventure! Cheers 🇨🇦
