No mention of pogies. One of the best cold weather bits of kit you can find. I ride with thin wool gloves under mine, much better experience than thick winter gloves.
Thanks for noticing lol! Yeah this was the 4+ pages of notes I posted in my story a few days ago. I have to write everything down for a project like this. 👍
If you aren’t aware of the existence of Neos (New England over shoes, you should be! You can wear your slippers, sneakers, or boots beneath these overshoes and never get wet or cold. Also 100% waterproof and ultra-lightweight. Absolute game changer for simple day-to-day doings with snow, and there is no end to the usefulness, including fat bikes.
Nice area out there! I used to live just north of Winchester, in Wakefield, MI. Bummer I didn't have a fat bike then though. Otherwise, I would have been on the trails a LOT! One of these times, I want to get back there and ride trails there in winter. I think it would be a lot of fun compared to the far and few trails and commuting I do now where I currently live.
Great video, well done. My fat winter fat biking is 10 miles to work every morning and then 10 miles home each night on county and back roads in central Wisconsin. Other highly recommended gear is a balaclava and a snow boarding helmet and I'm good to minus 20 F.
Excellent video! Pro Tip: Add a little vodka to your water bottle to keep it from freezing 😅 I'm volunteer groomer for Milwaukee Metro Mountain Bikers, we currently have 3 groomed trails if you're in the area. Heritage, Minooka and Pleasant Valley are all riding great right now!
Haha great idea! That’s awesome! Thanks for your hard work 👍. I live in Racine so I’ve been itching to get out and check out heritage in the snow. Maybe this weekend 🙌
@@TheDustyDutchman Just a heads up, we closed off all the jumps and drops for the winter but everything everything else is open. Heritage is in my back yard, hope to see you out there!
I am totally in love with winter biking! Great video. Nice drone footage. So did it hit the tree? That is what I want to know. LOL! It was -40 C (at it's lowest, which is also -40F) last weekend and gust up to 80km/h (or even more I think) where I live. I decided to swap my studded tire to non studded during that time and do some bike work. Took some time to get the trails back to 'normal' after the wind. Cheers from Canada.
Hi. An electric generator can be mounted at the pedals. With an electric wire you can warm boots and suits. See russian electri warmed wwIi pilot boots. My very best regards.
I’m about to buy my first fat bike and it will pretty much exclusively be used for winter groomed trails. So What’s the perfect tire width for groomed trails?
3.8 inches or larger. More important is the tread pattern and air pressure in the tire. Check out 45nrth, they explain what each tire does the best. They have some good videos too
i mean if you have got the means to buy all that stuff and all these corks and features aight but ok we are not all living in USA we not necessarly need to buy a moutain of stuff to do stuff. I ride a normal MTB in the snow and you can do a lot already. Yeah maybe it is better with a fatbike but people dont ncessarly have the space nor the means for all that. on the video you ride on packed snow it doesnt make much sense to me, where is the adventure if so. but i agree riding in group is better for sure it is all what matter. this overflo of stuff requirement i mean is it necessary. people are intelligent, they know that in snow you need cover. i was living in the alps and the only people in snow with technical gears are tourists. most people form the moutain where in jeans from first of january to 31th of december and one old jacket, if ever. for sure they are so limits and you need cover if you are outside at night in winter over 12'000 feet but nothing crazy either but who goes out at night over 12'000 feet. i had a collegue at workd he would ride to work on a little scooter. with just a track jacket by -15° C. no technical gear nothing. he was riding down to the village from the moutain on icy road. he just did not care. people from the mountain dont care much about all that stuff. go in the forest, dont be stupid for sure but you will be fine with normal afordable winter clothes. a cheap ski suit will beat most cases.
I might be moving to wisconsin end of this summer. Thank you for the information. Also that was some awesome drone footage.
Nice! There’s actually a lot of great places to ride around here. 🙌🙌

I’ve heard that’s a good option. I’ll have to give them a try this year. 👍👍
Right on, thanks for this video! I enjoyed watching it and I even learned a few things!!
Fantastic! Glad to hear that, Thanks for watching 👍👍
About 2 weeks into fat bike ownership, and I absolutely LOVE it. So much fun. Subbed
NICE! Welcome to the club! It’s a blast right? And thank you!
@@TheDustyDutchman Absolutely!
Love the way you edited the video! You can tell you put a lot of thought into it 😊

Thank you for sharing,,, that looks like a awesome place too ride for sure...
My pleasure! Thanks for watching, it really is a special place to be outside 👍
Great video. Love these trails. P
Thanks Paul! They sure are fantastic 🤙
Love the Hok Skis at the end⛷️
Thanks! We just got into them last year and love em!
Good to know about the Sportsman's, I've been past there many times.
It’s super cool. Very comfortable, clean and convenient. The owners are silent sport enthusiasts too which is a really nice bonus.
Nice bikes you got there🚲
Thanks mate!

Nice work!
Thanks buddy! I gotta ride up by you soon!

I absolutely love that area. It feels like home to me, and cycling in any fashion there is my happy place 🙌

That’s fantastic. Good for you for putting in those miles. 👍 I could have gone on forever about winter gear but the video would have been to long lol
I live In Madison and am thinking about getting a fat bike to ride In The winter. My work is 1 mile away tho
Sounds like a perfect scenario 👍
Awesome video! Very well done - fun and informative. 👏🏼 I love the book prop….unless you are a reader now, in your “spare” time? 😁
Thank you! I may have read a sentence or two 🤣
Hello, can you please tell me the brand of the gear that you are using on you, lower and upper jacket it all looks great! Thank you
Of course, the bottoms are pants from Twin Six. They are called the “winter bibs” and the Jacket is from 45NRTH, it’s called the “naughtvind”
No pogies though? Real nice to be able to wear thin gloves to run controls better.
I’ve never tried them actually. Lots of people swear by them. Maybe I’ll give them a try this year
@@TheDustyDutchman I can't really say how much of a difference they make, I've never tried fatbiking without them. They're nice.

Great video. What goggles are you wearing?
Thank you! Those are 100% accuri goggles with a clear dual lens 👍

Thanks so much man I really appreciate it. Winter biking is so fun. The drone hit MANY trees that day lol. Enjoy the winter!
@@TheDustyDutchman I ride everyday that I can. As you mentioned, it is a short season.
Absolutely. Nice work!
Your first season winter fat biking is fun but sucks. You learn from the mistakes then it becomes magical bliss
That’s actually spot on 🙌. Well said 👍
I wish I could find 45NRTH in USA sizes. I have no idea what size to order when I order online
I’m 6’ tall and weigh 190 pounds and I wear size large if that helps.
Hi. An electric generator can be mounted at the pedals. With an electric wire you can warm boots and suits. See russian electri warmed wwIi pilot boots. My very best regards.
👍👍
There is also electric conductive silicone. By makind a sort of mesh of it, it will results perrfect clothes warming systems. My very best regards.
What if you rode those trails with regular mountain bike with regular mountain bike tires? Would you sink in too much?
Yes exactly. That’s why they recommend 3.8” wide tires and a few PSI of tire pressure.
I’m about to buy my first fat bike and it will pretty much exclusively be used for winter groomed trails. So What’s the perfect tire width for groomed trails?

Do you find any issues with suspension in the cold winter temperatures?
Not yet and I’ve gone on rides below zero too. No issues
I want to ride a bicycle like you
It’s just takes practice 👍
@@TheDustyDutchman yap😊😊
Eye glasses and fogging. Winter sucks.
Haha fogging does suck
I need a bike

Fair enough 👍
Riding on groomed trails would be dangerous to my health, those ridges strongly remind me of Ruffles. 🫣
😂😂😂😂😂 man I just got hungry 😂
