I’m floored by the versatility of this thing! Your walkthrough of all the elements of this are stellar! This is perfect for mini boards, not to speak of its sheer versatility! Great demo, Eric! Cheers!
Incredible review! And you are the first person I've heard mention about the internal trim pot for the mod wet/dry, honestly that might be the feature that really puts this over the edge. Had the screen violence, but wanted it to be a bit more modulated and a little less reverby, so this looks great.
Thanks so much for this video, Eric. I got the Excess V2 recently and was having trouble dialing it in to usable settings. I was actually ready to return it until I saw this-now I'm loving the pedal!
@@EricMerrow Hey again, Eric! Quick question: I'm having trouble with the delay setting-is it possible to get any longer delay settings out of it, or is it just slapback/doubling? Would tweaking the internal trim pot have any "lengthening" effect on the delay?
I bought the excess v1 last year and it is arguably one of my favorite pedals at the moment. The distortion I love for post hardcore and hardcore. You can get close to a modern metal sound with the treble and gain maxed but I put a ge7 after to get closer by boosting the bass and other stuff, still not 100%. The chorus is beautiful and the harmonizer is so much fun. I thought from day one that the second switch should be an on/off for the mod but after playing with it, it forces you to tweak and play with it in parallel mode by not having it as an on/off. So I really like the v1 as something that you can play and tweak with regardless that it doesn't give you multiple sounds on the fly. I almost never have used the switch to go between the two mods lol. The new updates look like an improvement, and I would definitely utilize that momentary feature. The repeats on the harmonizer were awesome! I thought it would turn into a rainbow machine but ended up being its own thing or a new type of shimmer reverb. I thought I might be able to get a similar sound with a mood pedal but don't think I can or haven't figured out how to yet. This is exciting!
Thanks so much for watching Dylan! The harmonizer is definitely a unique mode. Very reminiscent of the mood and other shimmer effects but not quite the same. The mood can do a cool harmonized mode but not the repeating part. Glad you’re digging the new V2!!!
Great demo Eric!!! That pedal is sick!!! I would get lost in that thing for hours as well!!! I’m looking at that pedal as my next buy, great job as always!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Great demo! Beautiful pedal. Definitely appears to be way more user friendly and better options than v1. Definitely plan on trying this eventually. Only knock might be I wish there was more delay time. Lots of fun to be had though.
2 comments: 1. Totally dig the Puresalem Elevation. I truly believe that some of the newer builders (like Dunable, Fano and Puresalem) are finally getting it "right", and of these- Puresalem is the best "value for money" option. 2. Cool pedal. It suffers from a problem that I see in almost all multi-function pedals- one function is way weaker than if you just used multiple pedals- in this case,i'm not hearing a distortion sound that I would choose over against dirt pedals I already have but I really like that it functions genuinely like 2 pedals
I totally understand where you’re coming from and I’m absolutely not saying that your opinion isn’t valid. But for me, the distortion section yields a really pleasing sound to my ears! Either way though, thanks for watching! Glad you dig the mod section! 🤘🤘
Such a thorough and well-constructed walk through, well done Eric!
Thank you so much for lending me the opportunity to make this! You absolutely nailed the design of this revamp!
Yeah y’all could learn something from him lol
Seriously loving this pedal

Ah I’m so glad the video helped!!! The Excess is one of my favorite pedals of all time so I’m glad you’re digging it now!
It’s so fun! The fifths mode is by far my favorite. Especially on bass.

I can definitely understand that criticism - it is more of a slap back delay. Thanks for watching!! 🤘🤘
Cool review, thanks!
🤘🤘🤘🤘
Another pedal I didn't know I needed. Great.........
Oh the Excess v2 is AMAZING!!!!
I've using it after / sometimes in the loop of my superego+. it's WICKED

@@EricMerrow Oh, yeah, I'm a bit "against the grain" (heh) as far as distortion goes, just noting the difference...
The gain pot is not enough progressive for my taste and too much high in the setting….maybe more adjustable with the guitar mike volume.
my face at 16:10 : 🤩
🤘🤘🤘
Low gain sounds? 😂😂
It’s definitely less on the subtle low gain side of drive for sure. With patience you can get some nice low gain sounds!
What would you say the distortion is based on? Does it sound rat-ish?
To my ears, it sounds like it definitely could be kinda Rat-ish. But I’m not positive what the drive is based around
It’s inspired by another pink beauty, the Ibanez Session Man which yes, used a RAT inspired circuit 👌
