Y’all are crushing it with this “Nothing Special” series. All these pedals have become so iconic in their own right. It’s awesome to get more of the inside scoop on how they came to be, and only fair that they get a little extra love and attention. ESPECIALLY the Fault V2.
I saw the jhs episode and I was honestly surprised to hear that Fault v2 was based on the Klon! Fault v2 is such a versatile drive pedal and I absolutely love how much you’ve stuffed into the pedal. Also, absolutely love the sliders. Your 3 band EQ is perfection 🤘🤘 y’all rock
Exactly one year ago today since I got my Fault V2 directly from you guys! I use it every single day with guitars of course, but also crunching vocals, synths, everything.. It's already been in live shows crunching up sounds from an MPC even. I really love it, and it's wonderful that's it's getting some love from the rest of the pedal loving community. I've never played a Klon or it's many clones either so I can't compare, I just know the Fault and it's infinite tweakability allows me to use it and experiment with it in a million ways and no drive pedal in the market comes close, and no drive pedal has sliders while looking so darn pretty to boot!
Got mine late last year after enjoying my first few OBNE acquisitions (Dark Star, Visitor, Dweller) so much. There was a demo/review that really sold me - I’ll have to look for it - and the guy was spot on with his gushing over Fault’s ability to sound good in so many different settings. I like one (heavy gain on stage one and two, all the EQ faders wide open, crush switched on) so much that I’ve given serious thought to buying a second one just to have dedicated to that.
I randomly saw Josh’s show yesterday and was surprised the Vault had never been tossed into one of the klone shootout demos. Cool to hear the backstory and that the mention created some buzz for you guys. The idea of “Klon with a boost + EQ” is so practical/ useful that it’s sort of shocking it came from OBNE (meant as a compliment!).
Haha Brady without your V1 there wouldn’t be a V2, there was an evolution and without a beginning hand it wouldn’t have existed. I can’t tell you how to feel about fault but from hearing you speak about the history and journey of it you do have a lot of yourself put into these little boxes. Thank you both for going through the fault today this was really enjoyable and I love the sounds. At some point will I have a OBNE only board? Time will tell haha ❤
I just saw it on Amazon and said, hmm, I think I will try that…then I watched a Kingman review and was sold. It sounds kick ass and has the right features for live use. As an electronics engineer, I KNOW there are not that many different topologies and it is also fun to experiment and innovate…however, it is the Fourier series and extraction of harmonics and tuning of the “square wave” that is the key. Your EQ sliders are not only bitchen but the center frequencies and Q are excellent ….I think that is the key aside from trying to get the undulating waveform by clipping, lowering rails, etc etc.
