On the bottom of the vapor separator tank :"VST" in the fuel system there is a very fine mesh filter in the injector return line fitting, (use care removing the fuel line from it as the fitting is plastic) make sure you check if for plugging ,, it will make your motor run rough at low power settings if it gets restricted as if forces the injector fuel pressure high, (this issue also shortens your high pressure fuel pumps life if ignored) a restricted VST return filter can also be checked by connecting a fuel pressure gauge to the high pressure pump's output test point.. Fuel returning from the injectors enters the fuel Chamber return inlet of the vapor separator and passes through a spring loaded pressure regulator valve. The pressure regulator in the vapor separator tank is designed to maintain a pressure of 20 to 30 psi if you see a fuel pressure that way higher like 45 psi or higher the return filter is restricting the return flow and needs to be replaced.. an example of were this tiny filter it is located and what it is . its often overlooked ,, ruclips.net/video/8U2wHAYrAy0/видео.html
A direct injection motor is supposed to start on the first spin every time my Yamaha 115 2 stroke starts on the first spin every time hot or cold outside
I've got Etec 250 HO on my 2012 24' pontoon boat. Pushes it at 48 mph, never a problem with starting or running. Have always run the XD100 oil. I used regular gas with ethanol till about 3 years ago and always worried about it as the motor wasn't being run as often, sometimes only once a year (first a huge drought and then high lake levels that closed all ramps). If I can't get on the lakes, I'll at least run it on muffs every couple of months and I always use the winterization procedure. I think they're great motors. Make sure you use a good certified Etec mechanic. And use ethanol free fuel always if it's available for you.
100% I think using the XD100 oil is a good choice. Ethanol free gas is actually pretty tough to find around me, but I make sure to use a good engine cleaner to break up any gunk that builds up from regular gas. Glad you’ve had a good experience with yours!
I have a 200 E-TEC and it’s a 05 and has never been in the shop for repairs and it did go in for 3 yrs or300 hrs and they changed my large water separator fuel filter this is a add on and the little filter on the motor and he checked for codes or any upgrades. But it always starts real easy and I have a jet foot on mine no gear case. But you do need to grease the bearing in jet foot every time you use it but you have to use low pressure grease gun and pump it until water and clean grease and that’s it besides grease to the steering ram .
Gas is very important. Ethenol free 89 or 90 is Ideal. Shell premium is excellent as its carbon fighters cleans real good. Poor Seafoam or starbrite (one can per 20 gallons gas) into a near empty tank and run it at least til you burn 20 gallons to add another can. I would at least run engine on a lake till 1/4 tank or near empty at least once every 4 month (can go longer with starbrite gas stabilizer. Off subject... I would buy a grease gun and some triple guard grease and attach to the 3 fittings for your steering and trim. pump slowly till you see grease oozing out (see youtube videos). Good day folks.
Ive had a look at a BRP e tec 250, the large nut under the rubber cover for turning the crank is solid, Im new to these, is there a locking pin / lever? or is the engine seized? its very very clean! thanks
Idk if this is still useful to you but you should be able to turn the engine over using that nut. It will be difficult due to compression of the engine but it should turn over. If you cant get a socket on the nut you could probably strong arm the flywheel by hand.
Hello Jenkins. My name is Valmei and I bought an Evinrude engine, 1999, 175hp, with very little use. I would like to know what type of oil you use and also what gearbox oil? Thanks
I use the BRP Hpf Pro for lower unit oil. I am also about to switch to the Evinrude xd100 oil. I figure that the engine uses so little oil, that I can pay a little extra for the Evinrude brand oil but have piece of mind knowing I’m using the recommended oil. Evinrude’s website should recommend an oil based on what engine you own.
I’m not sure if these are as sensitive as the Ficht motors but if you put a prop on it, make sure you take a look at your WOT spec and prop it to meet that RPM. Again, I don’t know if the E-Tec engines are as sensitive, but the Ficht motors HATE being lugged. Also maybe do a treatment with Yamaha Ringfree every once in a while.
Do you still own a Ficht? I have a 2002 150hp with about 200hrs. I know the previous owner. It sat for quite a while but has always been good. Cranks right up, runs great. Knock on wood. I think it loves me being the new owner as I use it very often. I will keep it until I have no choice but to re-power.
I have an ETEC 115, 300 hrs. the oil level light started going off on my last fishing trip, meaning the oil tank is low, what type of oil I should put in the tank? XD50 or XD100? what's the difference between XD50 and XD100? .. any thoughts? thanks
I run XD100 now. My engine is programmed to run XD100 and that is the nicest oil. Most Evinrudes that are gen1 are set to run XD50 from the factory and that’s what I would recommend running. You should take it to a evinrude certified mechanic and they will be able to connect it to a computer and tell you what it’s programmed for/let you decide which oil you want to use. XD50 is comparable to the industry standard TC-W3. XD100 is a higher quality than the standard XD50.
...a 12 yr old motor with 300 hrs on it is super low...I would be looking at swapping out seals on the lower unit and pay close attention to tilt and trim or any other seals for possible failure from lack of use ...
i has to go to a ranger boat dealer & Johnson Omc cabled motor i had to re-power my boat the evinrude dealer told me the 150 older engine was junk but he was wrong a safety switch was bad! the newer outboard did not run I told dealer just fix it! 60 Johnson was all i found, the problem is newer tech computer controlled a 5 dollar rubber part was 156 dollar repair bill & it was new run one time people can't keep there figures off stuff or watcher call the cops it sad!!

Thanks for the heads up Brian! I will definitely check out the video and look for this issue on my motor as well.
That looks easy enough and I have a big full size fuel and water filter and separator . That’s right out of tank.

I make sure I get pure gas with no ethanol. Gas is very important. Great video.
Yessir. No ethanol is ideal. Unfortunately there’s not a lot around where I live and it’s very expensive.
What size of boat are you using , what is the top speed on you’re boat . I’m currently looking to purchase a boat with a 175. Thanks , great video .
I have an 18ft bass boat. With my engine and a full load of tackle and partner I usually see 55-57. By myself with less gas I can see 60mph.
Absolutely love my twin 150 etecs on my boat! 🤙🏼
Glad to hear it! What kind of oil do you run in your boat?
I just run the evinrude xd100 oil 👍🏼
Enjoy them while you can. BRP has stopped making Evinrude outboards.
I saw that. Sounds like they were struggling and then Corona was the final blow.
the best outboard motor

Good job. Looking at a 2019 pontoon with a 150 etec with 80 hours. Very helpful tip about the gas sensitivity.
Thank you. Just happy to inform others so they don’t make the same mistake as myself!
Beware, BRP has discontinued the production of Evinrude Outboards.
Denise McDowell 2 stroke for life yeeyee
I am about to buy a 2000 22' Sratos with a 2007 150hp Evinrude. Do you run just regular gas in it or do you run the higher octane gas? Thanks
I always ran standard gas in it. Evinrude/Johnson also makes a fuel treatment which wouldn’t hurt use as well

just bought evinrude G2 HO 115 hp, Crest Pontoon, put a gallon of XD 100 oil after oil light came on, where is the oil guage on the motor ,??
Nice review, dude.
Very powerfull motors. Last 2 stroke ever made. Unfortunatly is the end of an era.
It is unfortunate. Sounds like they were struggling and Covid ended up being the last straw
