If it wasn’t fixed you should’ve refused to pay. Why pay for a job that wasn’t done? Think this is more of a video about the shop that ripped you off rather than the motor.

Keep in mind I called in to BRP and asked them where to take it, and they recommended this shop. That this place was the certified Etec dealer and that was the best place to take it. Look man I’m just trying to move forward I’m just trying to warn people that they honestly could care less about you once you’re out of warranty regardless of the circumstances.

Stephan Schouten Bro they didn’t even offer me a discount on a brand new one. I went through the manufacture to find out what place to take it to before I got it fixed in the first place. I took extra steps to make sure I didn’t go to the wrong place and spend the money in the wrong spot. Then after I made my claim and explained all that again to them they did nothing. Cmon man. I wasn’t asking for a brand new motor. But they could give me a credit on what I spent towards one.

Hmmm .... I feel your pain.
I have to agree with the above - you went waaaaaaay to far in.
I had a very similar problem with a brand-new boat and motor (inboard).
Got 5k into repairs just after the warranty expired.
Retained an experienced, talented attorney. Settled with the boat manufacturer for $40,000 - AND, the manufacturer had to take the boat back. That's right, eat it.
The problem boat was a 29-foot. I took the 40k and plowed it into a 40-foot boat from the same manufacturer.
The 40 ran perfectly well and was a real treasure.
Sometimes - you really need to get a lawyer. When I retained mine, all of a sudden the manufacturer TOOK ME VERY SERIOUSLY....

How do you figure Fish on? IF/WHEN a company does not, or can not "make it right" then you must either scrap and buy another engine, or pay for repairs; sounds like it might be YOU that are inexperienced. I'm experienced AND lucky as I see it, my Honda just runs and runs and runs and, well you know--it runs. But many friends with other engines have spent far more than this guy chasing their tail. This make them all NOT experienced? Where are you coming from?

  • @bishop9598
    @bishop9598 5 лет назад +12

In the first 40 seconds, he identifies what caused the problem: ". . . I got some moisture in my gas tank and it ran bad one day . . ." What a lot of people do not understand is that with all these higher tech engines now (injectors in any modern OB are quite different than they were a decade ago), you do not want to get any bad gas, or allow your gas to get water in it (condensation).
It's not much different than the high tech engines in cars today. You do not want to get bad gas with them either and with all OB's, if you can stay away from ethanol, do it . . . as the ethanol attracts moisture. It's why they recommend filling up the tank right after use (and use a fuel treatment like Sta-bil, Star Tron, or similar). It's why these modern OB's are much more fuel efficient and less polluting than they used to be. With the new injectors, you should have the mind set to do everything that you can to eliminate fuel problems.
And, of course, make sure that the dealer / mechanic that works on your engine provides proof that your engine has been repaired (injectors replaced etc), before you pay them. Dealers (etc) are completely separate companies from the OEM, and it sounds as that is where your problem lies . . .
You've got to be smart and do your research on your power plant and who is qualified to work on it nowadays . . . so that you don't get ripped off. Once upon a time, shade-tree mechanics could "fix" most problems with engines (and such). Not anymore - and that applies to cars too.
"BRP doesn't care at all". I am sure they do, but they are not responsible for your problem, so why would you think they would reimburse you?

If you did any research at all on your own, you would have found all the reports of bad or dirty injectors cause your issue. If you spent $100 on the diagnostic software you would have been able to shut each injector off 1 at a time until you found the one that had no change in the way it was running. That would be the bad one. I can say this with experience. One of my twins had the same problem as yours. Did the research online. bought the software I needed to test. determined which one it was. ordered the new part online. Installed new injector and updated the coefficient file that each injector needs with the same diagnostic software. Found youtube videos on how to do it all. Fixed. part was $600. Software was $100. labor was free. I am not a mechanic. Just not afraid to do things myself. I love these engines. Big heavy 25' Hydrasports boat and the thing jumps on plain. 50MPH on the water. You need to learn to use the internet.

Etec are actually the easiest motors to diagnose and service at home of any other brand i know... so i totally agree with you. A cable, software and a little bit of youtube search would take you a very long way before forking out 12k... still that shop sounds awful. They could have at least helped him getting a used working one. At this rate he is going to pay more for them experimenting on it than the motor is actually worth...

My lord there are some very unsympathetic posts on here. My old 1992 Evinrude 60hp died last fall and I was just looking at a 75hp E-tec. The more I look online the more I think I might either rebuild the one I have or just go with a Mercury. Thank you for sharing your story. Oh and by the way that 1992 Evinrude I took into the shop in 1996 because it was having trouble idling. They told me they engine was shot and needed overhauling and quoted me some outrageous price. I took it home and it had 138lbs in all 3 cylinders I cleaned the carbs and have been using it for 23 years. Seems these boat shops are master scam artists. Anyway if you ever do get a resolution I am curious to see what you found. Oh and might want to try to take a small gas tank with new fuel in it an hook it to the outboard and see how it runs. Good Luck.

Listening to the rhythm of that engine, it is clear that it is injector problems and that owner was taken for a ride with all those invoices to pay.
Anyone who is interested should look at the high precision engineering that exists in those expensive injectors and they are rather delicate in nature to many issues. The companies and the technicians who gave this poor soul all those invoices knew what the fault was but did not tackle it straight away thinking that all people are so gullible.
    Here is what is happening.
*The injector is to be made more tolerant of the imperfection which exists in the petrol we buy from petrol companies. It means that the injector needs to be made from more durable allow to meet the imperfections of the petrol supply from petrol stations.
The customer buying petrol from a petrol station has no control over the water due to the condensation in the storage tank at the petrol stations. The filters do not eliminate moisture in petrol and while the engine is working water pass through the injector tiny aperture in small amounts and this is not going to ruin the injector while the engine works. It is when the engine is switched off and laid up for a few days or more when the water becomes an issue as a few droplets of water may exist in the injector and start to form some surface corrosion of some form.
The corrosion does three functions, it will cause at the injector tip weakens the " voice coil" or the control coil for the injector action as this is electrical controlled and fuel cooled also. Any corrosion in the injector will inhibit the operation of the injector piston. Note that this is a high-pressure injector which operated at top dead center and not a low-pressure injection system that operates when the exhaust of the two strokes just closes.
Here is some information about it.
With two strokes there are high pressure and low-pressure injection systems. The E-Tec is a very high-pressure injection system. the FICHT and E-Tec systems are very similar but have some differences. The Ficht system, it is a direct injection system meaning that the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber when the piston is close to the top of its stroke. This concept is great for fuel economy, power, and emissions, but there are technical challenges with injecting fuel into a hot, highly compressed combustion chamber. The Ficht system injects the fuel by energizing a solenoid that serves as a plunger. The plunger pushes on a column of fuel that is piped to an injector. So, the order of operations is that an electric current is sent to a solenoid which causes a plunger to push fuel into the combustion chamber. The plunger is returned to its original position by a spring. When the plunger is pulled back to its "rest" position, it is re-filled with fuel ready for the next cycle. The big difference between Ficht & E-tec is that there is no spring in the E-tec system. The plunger is returned to its "rest" position by reversing the current through the solenoid which makes the plunger shuttle in the opposite direction. The reversing polarity design does have several advantages to be sure, including the fact that the plunger can return to position faster, and it is quieter than the old spring system. The E-tec system allows greater control of the solenoid that the Ficht system did. The computer does not allow the plunger to travel its entire stroke and the current is reversed pulling the solenoid back. This allows the computer to not only control when the fuel is injected, but how much fuel is injected.
The E-Tec Evinrude has great problems with the material used in the complex injector unit, as it is not so tolerant of the fuel on can buy from the petrol station. If one follows the forums and discussion on E-Tec in any country, the philosophy of the E- Tec and Ficht system are brilliant but their practicality and tolerance to the fuel any customer can buy from petrol stations are still far off from the satisfaction of the customer who is in no position to make perfect petrol with no water or ethanol in it.

You can get the diagnostics cable and software for like $15 and you can see everything the dealer does as well as have access to a suite of diagnostic tests. This is almost certainly the injectors and could have been fixed maybe 100-300 bucks DIY or like 1000-1500 at a stealership. Its not the engine that has the problem. Its the workshop. Bad workshops are an engines worse enemy... even abuse does not compare to a bad workshop.
I bought a seemingly good 115 Evinrude and when i went down to details the workshop had done EVERYTHING wrong... i had to change plug and index (1 was not indexed, 1 was NOT tighthend) had to change all filters that they ignored on every single year service for 10 years, i had to re-grease and change gear oil because they had used the wrong stuff, they had overtorqued all cover bolts and broke all fittings, i had to epoxy and fix all of them. Now it runs and purs like a kitten. No problems at all.
If you buy a Yamaha DONT TAKE IT TO THE SAME incompetent workshop you had your Etec. Good luck.

Have you tried a another gas can? get a gallon but Sea Foam in there and follow those directions

I’m a marine mechanics, where I work we’re selling/maintaining outboards, also a Evinrude dealership. Those g2 and + are the easiest outboards to work on and diagnose. These are very high tech engines and reliable as fuck is maintained well!! You bought a used etec with 400h on it ..did the ex owner really took care @ the engine or did he abused it? Ran it carelessly while having an issue? How can you be 100% sure ? 400h ain’t much if maintained, but 400h with a dumb owner = 1500h+ lol .. when you bought the engine, was it still under warranty?

You spent $ 12.000 on an outboard engine and it don't run right ?? First off , what the hell man $ 12.000 and you SPENT that much !! Simple fix from day one , here ya go , drain or pump out all fuel into a clean plastic gas tank or several tanks to hold it all , attach a AIR HOSE to the fuel injector line going to the engine and REMOVE all spark plugs then crank engine over for 5 seconds , then wait ten seconds then crank over for 5 seconds more , unhook air then reconnect fuel line with new o-rings and put fresh gas in tank also pour 2 bottles of SEA FOAM in tank , now unhook battery to engine , absolutely no voltage going to engine , wait 10 minutes hook battery up , crank and run at 1/4 throttle with water hose connected to engine , run for several minutes cut off engine , now take it to the lake and enjoy it , it's fixed , my price to repair that problem $100 bill ! Those are great engines and very dependable all you gotta do is feed them fresh gas and keep the main lubrication points oiled up !

My cousin bought an old bass boat that had a mercury 150 two stroke on it and it ran exactly like what yours is doing. We did a compression check on each cylinder and all but one had 150psi. One cylinder had 0psi and after we removed the cylinder head there was a hole in the piston. He looked online and he swapped the whole power head on that motor. It was fine after that. Please keep us posted as to what your issue is with your motor.

  • @ammoalamo6485
    @ammoalamo6485 5 лет назад +1

I can't get a trusted mech for any small motor item where I live here in North Texas. I take things in, describe the problem, tell them what I want and don't want done, then when I go to pick it up they have invariably replaced parts that did not need replacing, that I specifically told the service writer not to replace... and they charge me for replacing a complete assembly, only to discover they kept half the assembly and only replaced some parts of it, though I paid for the whole shebang the decided to save their time and parts whilst charging me full price. I think the only way around this is to get a part time job as a service writer so as to learn all the tricks they use to NOT fix the problem while still spending loads of YOUR MONEY on stuff that will not correct the original complaint. Service writers who get paid on commission of the total bill are guaranteed to NOT FIX the problem, because the continuation of parts and labor expense is what keeps them in commission checks. Until customers understand where their money is going, until they get a firm written and enforceable contract for work to be done and have that contract signed and in hand before any work starts, we all can expect to be overcharged and under satisfied time and again. It is a scam, one of the worst, and it permeates every mechanic system that uses service writers to generate sales of time and parts. If they don't just want to replace modules say NO WAY unless they are willing to RENT a new module for a day to see if that corrects the problem, otherwise the customer replaces part after part after part and no one ever can say when it will end.

This is where knowing your shop comes in but they cant have a mechanic working all day for free and he shouldn't just be stabbing at it either. Try that get a warranty in writing shit and see how that goes. Basically youll be dragging your boat from shop to shop wasting everones time. At some point be best to fix it yourself. Probably electrical. They can be hard to track down if its intermittent.

I own two etecs, essentially the same, but mine are 225s.
First, I am sorry for your problems. I had similar fuel issues on my low hour engines, esp the starboard engine. The guy I had bought the boat from had disabled the water/fuel alarm and I toasted my injectors on the engine. Took me 6 mo to get the injectors--$3k and then another $2k to put them in and get them set up. Replaced/upgraded the fuel pump too.
You can pull the injectors yourself, plenty of videos on how to do this and test them yourself. Make sure you MARK each injector as they are not interchangeable. If the injectors are bad, well, the cure is more money for new injectors.
As for your bad gas, I installed a clear goldenrod separator ahead of the first fuel separator system. The goldenrod is clear and has a quick release valve at the bottom. Saves you from having to unscrew the metal filter to check for contamination. Also remember, if you get the fuel alarm, both filters are filled with water and you need to get this cleaned out ASAP. The water in ur injectors is like acid. Eats those things up. Unscrew and dump your filter in the back of the boat, then pull off your engine cover and unscrew and dump this filter as well. remember to be careful with the filter under the cowling, it has the two wires that sense water. Do not bend or damage these. Once the water is cleared, immediately start your engine back up and let it run for 10-15 mins.
That's a nice boat, I would get comfortable with pulling the engine apart and putting it back together. People are getting less and less enthusiastic about working my engines, so it may behoove you to get in there and take things apart. You will learn a lot in the process! --and drop parts in the water.

First mechanic did complete service - no fix -. Said it was a temp sensor - no fix. Did the ECU, $1200 - no fix. Said it was the TPS was out of spec and needed adjustments. The mechanic adjusted then took it to the lake for a test run. He said he got it to 5100 rpm but that the prop was wrong and the motor is under sized .... blah, blah, blah.
I took it straight to the lake, engine wouldn’t get over 4200 rpm.
The boat used to do 43mph at 5400rpm with the same prop. It’s at the second mechanic now.
I see the comments about people saying how it’s your fault for letting a company rip you off, that’s BS!! How is it the boat owners vault for depending on a boat mechanic to fix there boat. Not everyone is an expert on outboards.

At first its a $12,000 fix, then it drops to $6,000 when you turn the key...? And a "little moisture?" How could you find a "LITTLE" moisture? If you can find moisture in your fuel, its ALOT of moisture. Also, there are water separating fuel filters that would have stopped this from happening, they cost about 50 bucks. Its funny how people perceive things. YOU run bad/water infiltrated gasoline in your $18,000 engine, then blame the the engine company? The repair techs didn't/couldn't fix your mistake and again you blame the engine manufacture? This is not an Evinrude problem, this isn't a warranty issue, this is your problem stop bashing a decent company because you messed up, they didn't run the bad gas in your engine, they didn't tell the technicians not to fix your engine, you need to take some blame for your mistake, and then hold the repair shop responsible for throwing useless parts on your engine and not fixing it. If you run bad gas/water through any engine, no matter which make, and it will have long lasting residual problems.

steven merchant it has a water separator it has all that. It’s a ranger bay 2200 tournament fishing boat it’s fully loaded. I stated that at first I want to golf coast marine and then over time that I’ve owned the boat it cost me about 12 grand chasing that specific problem. The boat still ran thiugh so I still used it. There just comes a time where you need to stop I got pissed and made this video lol. I’m not dropping another dollar into that motor in care how simple it is

MIGHT HAVE FOUND THE "PROBLEM" it seems from what I was told it's not really an uncommon problem....A 2 cycle doesn't use any values.....BUT there is a reed value system in place. From what I was told. If you do NOT use the recommend oil...it can cause it to carbon over...and hence cause it to run rough at idea....The suggestion was, find and clean the reed, and use whatever oil Evinrude says works best and might fix the problem. hope this help...I'm really surprised Evinrude couldn't tell you this....they have to know this is a possible problem.

Too bad. Sounds like bad mechanics. Have a fleet of etecs and ran into 1 issue that Evinrude covered out of warranty. I do have 1 mechanic I trust and have 1100+ hours on our 2006 250etec gen1. before you put a new motor on have the tank cleaned. Also i think the problem is the plugs. Could have had a failure or crap due to the water and i wonder if the plugs were replaced. If they were replaced are they INDEXED properly.

Is that hose hooked up to the flush port? You can't run this engine on the hose tilted or you will get water in the cylinders. Must be completely vertical.
