  • We have a look at a G2 E-Tec to see what makes these engines so unique

    The real reason for not having the exhaust manifold in the center of the G2 engines is not because of length issues (they would have equal length, there). It is so in order for the pistons to lean against the cooler side of the cylinder during the power stroke, away form the exhaust hole side, so the lubrication is better and the oil consumption could be reduced.

    Good instructions on the engine, but the music was to loud and a distraction.

    The side of the motor you’re pointing to talking about the exhaust wouldn’t it be port port. Looks like you’re pointing to the left side of the motor to me.

    I have a friend that has 2 etecs. 200 hp
    One on a key west 23 ft brand new 2020 its been in the shop more than in water. The second one 20118 on a 22 ft hydrosport in Canada . The first one is in Florida.Both have the same problems,rough idle,won’t start,both have had high pressure fuel pumps changed also hydraulic steering and tilt problems. He is not happy with BRP dealers and would not recommend these motor to anyone. So I bought a CC with a 150 Yamaha and have not had one problem.

      LOL. g2 is a high performance machine, it is not for everyone. The g2 in the hands of an experienced and knowledgeable user is exactly what it is, a high performance machine.

      My Etecs only require service every 300 hours while your yami has to go to the shop for a more expensive service every 100 hours the Evinrude also has more torque more power and better fuel efficiency as of last weekend I had 1078 trouble free hours on my 2015 225’s but I have nothing against Yamaha for the most part they are reliable aside from corrosion issues if used in salt water

    If my brand new 250 G2 lower gear case oil level is below the bottom ring on container, is that an issue? Engine is as level as can be. Can't find how you add to the volume.thanks from NC in USA. ALSO does the engine need to be running to get accurate eng oil qty?

    • @Skits_Missions
      @Skits_Missions 6 лет назад

      john wortham it doesn’t need to be running. You add oil from the gear box, remove the front water pick up cover and there is a plug, remove this and add the oil, it can be hard but not if you have the right tools and pump. Remove the breather sight tube on the res bottle and fill to just below the bottle breather tube.

      Suli Gangat you can change the throttle feel. Not a cable it’s a tension adjustment screw on the control. Look in your control manual.

    lol, expensive junk motors! when i bought the boat (brand new) theyn changed the motor because it had a power steering problem they couldn't resolve, then i took delivery of it and took it out on the water and it had an idle problem between 1600-2200 RPM. loaded it back up and hauled it 2 hours back to be somewhat fixed, back out on the water and it starts over temping, another 2 hour haul back and the whole lower end is replaced (3 1/2 weeks) got it back at the end of the season last year. fire it up this year and no power steering!! 2 hour haul (one way) back to the service center. now they tell me both steering sensors are bad and it takes all day to do the job (after they get them from the manufacturer). guy tells me i only have 9.8 hours on the motor and i need to drive it more! no shit bud, no shit

    • @catherineecheverriasauer9431
      @catherineecheverriasauer9431 5 лет назад +1

      loop charged, it keeps both bank piston thrust faces away from the exhaust ports and balances the intake charge because both banks see the same crankshaft rotation

    • @muskiemouth4164
      @muskiemouth4164 6 лет назад

      It's a 2 stroke, no camshaft or valves.

    • @Skits_Missions
      @Skits_Missions 6 лет назад

      Mikko V it does not inject gas and oil. It burns pure gas hence the word “direct” injection. It has a oil Lube system that lubricates all engine components before being burnt

    • @catherineecheverriasauer9431
      @catherineecheverriasauer9431 5 лет назад +4

      hpdi was antiquated manual fuel injection and a big flop for yamaha... you cant give one of those engines away, electronic direct injection is relatively new and completely controllable with the ecu

    I can save everyone the trouble of watching this. There are 4 stainless bolts on the back of this motor. Take those out and the motor will come off. Dump it in the ocean to make an artificial reef. Head to the nearest Yamaha dealer and have them mount a nice new 4 stroke on your boat. You are welcome.

      D B my guess is that you had a bad experience?

    • @AB-bg1or
      @AB-bg1or 6 лет назад

      Yep. The company I work for have 4 225 hp Etecs that we got as a package deal on two different boats. Every single one of them has had catastrophic failures. None made it to 500 hours. Two motors were replaced, one by BRP under warranty, one powerhead replaced and we lost a lower unit on the other. And when I say lost, I mean it it is sitting on the bottom of the river. All of the motors were professionally maintained. Maybe we just are unlucky or maybe it's the fuel, but I have a 2004 Yammie 200hp 2 stroke and she is still going strong. I also had an old Merc (1987 vintage) tower of power that finally failed last year (that's 30 years). I'll pass on the E tecs, but if that's your thing, have at it. I know these things throw a ton of torque out, but it's 2018, and 4 strokes are the future. Just think, people laughed at electric windows in cars in the 60s. Just my opinion of course.

    • @Skits_Missions
      @Skits_Missions 6 лет назад +5

      D B 4 x failed G2 engines?? Very strange if true. Sorry but I can say the same about Yamaha. I changed from Yamaha to etec 12 years ago. Still have my first 2006 G1 40hp etec going strong and after a 750hr Plus 115HO G1 I now have a G2 225HO with 220hrs. I love them.

    • @AB-bg1or
      @AB-bg1or 6 лет назад

      Dennis Page Maybe the smaller ones are better? I know they have made improvements since our vintage, but that does us no good as we are now stuck with them. Like I said, if it's your thing and have had good luck, have at it. I'll pass.

    • @Skits_Missions
      @Skits_Missions 6 лет назад +3

      D B I also have had a second hand 115HO with over 700hrs before I sold for a new custom boat with 2014 model 225HO G2 which now has 220hrs to date. I love them. Mate has one of the new 130hp Yamaha 4 strokes and he has had two failed powerheads. Under 50hrs. Can happen to anyone.
