Thanks for the video, Paul. Since I've changed the plugs and fuel filter on my ETEC 40, it's idling so smoothly and the gas mileage has increased remarkably.
Tech tip I have seen the spark follow the marker line, I make a very short line on the top of the insulator and use die electric grease to insulator it
Dude thank you 🙏 I was always scared to work on my engine hearing that they are super tech sensitive and what not but watching your videos is giving confidence to start. Thank you 🙏 I subscribe off this one brotha
On the BRP Skidoo snowmobile engines supposedly if you buy the NGK plugs from the dealer with the skidoo part number they are "guaranteed" to index properly because the threads are cut to ensure proper clocking at the final torque. Not sure if that applies to the boat motors also.
FYI...If you are applying grease to threads, you are increasing torque value dramatically above 15 or 30lbs. That's fact and a risky move...must use 14mm plug shims if you can't achieve proper index after musical plugs or 30lbs dry thread. Cheers !
@@1Cast1Fish ya man I have had the same problem with all this crazy covid crap and how messed up my sons school is I have not had much time to fish ever since all this crap started!
For starbord mounting side it s very clear and the indexation is shown. But for the port side indexation is not shown, we easily undestand that spark oplu should be oriented to the injectors (tolerence zone)
Thanks , I still have one year until the 3 year maintenance, but I'll be doing it myself now that I watched your videos, have you done a video for every 3 yr maintenance?
I have a 40hp etec runs terrible at low speed 3mph to 8mph " missing, chugging. Idle seam good, top end is good , had champion plugs switched to nkg iridium plugs the situation got worse ! Would you think e3 plugs might correct this ? An authorized evenrude mechanic did the 3 yrs service and switched out plugs an said he did all the necessary work?? But it runs like crap at low speed ......charged me arm and a 🦵 .... Help !!!!!
Wish I could help, but I am by no means a pro, and it's sounds like it would be tough to diagnose the issue without seeing it. I would check to be sure all the spark plug wires are attached securely, also check the indexing on the plugs.
Hi Kevin. Great video man!! Could you please make a video on where and how to change the sacrificial anodes that are inside and on the motor. Thank you! I want to help my etech last forever 😁 it is an awesome work horse.
I have not made a video on that, however they should be replaced if they start to show signs of wear....normally they are just bolted on and easy to remove and replace.
Use the flush port on the motor, there are also videos of disassembling the water lines while flushing to find the plugged spots. I however have never done this
@1Cast1Fish ok thanks. I got all the stuff out of the hoses. Now, it pisses water good but not at idle speed at all. What do u think I should do now???
Hello. We changed the e tech 25 hp petrol pump. but everything works normally, the energy comes, the pump works, but the engine does not start by gurgling.. we spray the cylinders with lining spray. Hello..
@@1Cast1Fish Is the fuel pump relay not in the ecu? The ecu has been tested in another engine and it is valid. Is there a contact in another contact place?.. Can you tell me which ends of the ecu's 12 volt input socket?. I wonder if I have a short circuit in the 12 volt energy entering the ecu, I'm asking to measure..ecu is solid, no problem..
Wish I could help more, but honestly, this one may be over my level of expertise. Do you have the service and maintenance manual? Might be time for a shop visit.
There are multiple steps in performing a compression test, It would be difficult to put the whole process here and be 100% you understand.....Honestly I would look up other videos or take it to a qualified mechanic...I would love to help the best I can, but don't want to give bad advice or miss something since I do not have a 05 95hp.
Dang thats really bad luck with them, sometimes they get real close given a fair amount of play with the torque specs. I usually buy 2 times as many just in case. You can also buy indexing washers, but I remember reading they are not recommended somewhere...but honestly can't remember who or where I heard that from. Might be worth checking with Evinrude and trying.

Good to hear... and glad this video helped
Thanks for the video, the drama I read on various blogs can scare the hell out of a lot people.
Just gotta take your time

Goof tip...I have heard of this happening in a few cases, but can't remember the specifics...like insulation or marker type contributing.
Dude thank you 🙏

Glad these can help, us ETEC owners have to stick together
Thanks dude perfect for an none mechanic like me to do stuff like this myself!
Glad I could help, pretty easy job...so save yourself some money for bait :)

Not sure...I always have one that does not want to index though.
excellent video what is the injector pin purhaps the middle of injector? thanks
at 3:59, you can see it is facing the injector...I also use the small looking dot directly across that you can see between 2 bolts as a reference.
It is really very helpful and useful tutorial. Thank you for sharing. 💞💞💞
Thank you so much 😊

The shims will cause more problems than greasing the threads. Don't add shims, find plugs that index correctly.
Don't have a boat yet like that but still had to watch and give you a like my friend!
Much appreciated...now I need to get out a do some fishing, but finding time has been rough
@@1Cast1Fish ya man I have had the same problem with all this crazy covid crap and how messed up my sons school is I have not had much time to fish ever since all this crap started!
This is good, but I do not know what the injector pin is or what it looks like.

@@1Cast1Fish /Thank you. I will look in the morning and let you know. I have a 75 etcch motor, 3 cylinder. Thanks again.
Good stuff, I love my Evinrude. Too bad they quit making them.
I love mine to, and no real issues...much more reliable and cheaper to operate than the Merc Optimax I had on my old boat.

Should be the same on both sides
Thanks for the great video my friend 👍
Thank you

A lot of the basic maintenance is pretty easy IMO, I have not done a video on everything though.

I don't understand, if it has 4 cylinders what position the spark plug should be in, I have an Envirude e-tech 115
Should be the same orientation with the injector as on the 6.

Mine does not flow a ton at idle speed either. Is it overheating?
@1Cast1Fish what does it do if it overheats. ? How will I know if/when it overheats.?
@1Cast1Fish it's a 1989 60hp amd I don't have the money for a new one but I'm willing to do anything to get it going so I can fish with it.

Honestly not sure what the issue may be, but maybe fuel related

If it doesn’t line up you can also torque up to 30lbs
Yep, I always have at least one thats a pain
who else got a sick feeling a cringed when he was torqueing the first sparkplug.........BWHAHAHH!!
How do you know when it’s lined up to the air intake? I don’t get that part. Thanks
I meant lined up to the air and fuel mixture.
There is a small indent there...its noticeable if you look close at about 3:01 its kinda silver looking just above the bolt head
The triple guard grease should only be applied to the gasket of the spark plug, not the threads!!
22 ft lbs MAX. 30 ft lbs in older manuals is wrong. Grease also effects torque
2-cyl e-tec. Bought 5 spark plugs, only one fits to another cylinder. This is so stupid.

Take a wrench and turn it counter clock wise…..😂
