  • When it comes to our Evinrude ETEC motors, I feel that we are taken advantage of with regards to some parts as far a pricing. With my ETEC 3yr/300hr service due again, I set out to collect the required parts and service items for my outboard. The good news is I like to save some money when I can, and found an interesting price structure when it comes to my Evinrude ETEC sparkplugs. Be sure to watch if you want to save some money on your ETEC 3 year 300 hour service this fishing season.

I liked you do everything to save money, as in look'n for the best price. When it came to my Spark Plugs I went straight to Auto Parts House and that was 5yrs ago.
Thanks for sharing and as always "Tight Lines and Full Limits To Ya"

Always impressed with those that can do it themselves.

Best way to save some $$$ plus these motors are getting harder and harder to find people qualified to work on them.

I had to buy 9 on my 50hp 2 stroke. One of the two slots just refused to index properly within the torque tolerances, was a nightmare.

I usually end up with 1 or 2 that just want to be a pain. And they are expensive to just have sitting around and not used.

Here is one big savings for you Paul. I get my $100 (this is the regular Price) Bluehive Power bank phone chargers 20,000 mAh for only $30 ( that is 70% off) by simply checking the Canadian Tire Price EVERY WEEK until they go on sale. I now have over 10 of these precious Power banks for phone & USB lights ETC. I check all their sale items priced below $100 weekly.

Hard to beat a good sale on things you use. I watch a few sites for items that go on sale.

I thought about buying a 250 that’s for sale on marketplace near me because it’s pretty cheap. I have an old mercury black max and it’s pretty hearty on fuel so that would be my reason for getting an E tec. Are they worth buying these days? I’m just worried about tech-support and parts.

Can u do most or all the maintenance yourself? Do you have a shop that will touch it?
If yes and it’s a heck of a good deal and low hours… get it checked out and might be worth it if it’s good to go.
If you don’t have a shop or can’t do maintenance yourself…honestly you may want to stay clear…not because they are bad motors… they are great. But you will need extra support and it’s getting harder and harder to find shops who will mess with them.

@@1Cast1Fish Yes I am an automotive technician by trade but I do all of my marine work myself at the house. We don’t have any local supply stores anymore. One of them closed down a couple months ago so I would have to order all the parts online. I was wondering if injectors and EMM’s were still readily available.

They are to some extent, slight premium on pricing though. They still have a parts network out there, just not as robust as before. There are places that will rebuild the EMM to.

Paul, subscriber here, I have a 2007 evinrude 150 etec, pump is 586890, pump Crack at top and leaking bad, was told by boat mechanic I would have to buy pump and separator together, It's high pressure pump, but can't find h.p.(pump only)one that would match, do you have any ideas? Disabled veteran on Limited budget. Thanks Pat

As a fellow Vet, I would love to give you a simple fix for cheap...but unfortunately that is not really the case. I am assuming you are talking about the VST, in which case the old OEM ones are from Carter, they are no longer made. The newer ones (most agree better designed) come as a easy to replace whole unit, but has a restrictor for the tell tale that must be added for most engines. (Should be in the kit) Now I have seen a few people tear the whole VST apart and put an Ebay replacement pump only...problem is that in some cases it lasts a bit, but in others it goes bad very quick...then you are out even more money. IMO, I would buy the new VST and look at doing the install yourself...its fairly straight forward if you look everything over well. This is one instance where a cheap band aide fix may end up costing more in the long run and may be better to do right with a new updated part.
      Hope this helps a bit

Have fun when 3 of those wont index and you can toss out 3 of those brand new 10 dollar plugs!

      @1Cast1Fish  Месяц назад

Not sure I understand....I have had $20 plugs not index as well. Normally it seems I always have 1 stubborn one that is tough to get right.

@@1Cast1Fish I'm not saying 10 bucks is a bad deal. Just saying inevitably some new plugs wont work so you will need extra. I've got 5-6 new plugs that won't index in the garage. Price is more painful when they wont work for ya!

Understood....I have been fairly lucky and the specs are pretty generous, hope they will index in other spots on your next change out.
