Yeah it is a cool little feature...and makes a lot of sense when you think about it. You can collect the fine metal and keep it out of the oil which will reduce wear and tear....plus if you see excessive metal you know you got an issue.
l have changed the oil in my car once and boy was that an experience doing it for the first time. Now l pay someone else to do it but at least l know how too do it. Your motor must run top notch as you sure look after it well.
It's always good to just know how to do thing for yourself, even if you pay someone else...glad you took the time to learn how to do your car oil...it is a great skill to have. The motor does run pretty well as I do try and take good care of it.

That is why l learnt to do it, l do love to learn new things and have become quite good at things when it comes to cars. l would do it if l really needed to but getting alittle older and things get alittle harder for me now. LOL

@@1Cast1Fish It's a High Pressure lube...I still pop the bottom plug once a year to make sure the oil is knot milky....if that's the case the lower unit shift seal is most likely the problem!!

I changed my battery cable to thicker 1 b&s so my grommet doesn't fit properly anymore, I think yours might work for me. Just wondering is it stock or aftermarket? Any idea what the model number would be? Thanks
Thanks very much for making these ETEC videos. Do you know why they have to be pumped in from the bottom, rather than using a thin nozzle to fill it from the top? I'm thinking of using the Lucas oil in the future to save some money. I'd change it every season, so I don't think it's too risky to use a cheaper oil.
It ensures the air is pushed out. As far as what oil I always recommend buying the Evinrude stuff, not much more and peace of mind IMO. Way to expensive to skimp on a few bucks.

Double check, they like to stick to the casing sometimes too. But if none are there, then yes it could be a source for water to get in. I would look up the part diagram for your engine using your model number and see if there are washers needed, if so buy them and install...then check again for water. If water is still present it is likely a seal.
I have the problem that my oil transfer pump doesn't reach the bottom of the container and when the oil gets so low in the container it becomes hard to pump.
You can try to loosen the plastic suction and move it down a bit...or buy and cut some new plastic tube to fit. You can also just take the extra you can't reach and pour it into a new bottle of oil for use.
Good 'how to' video without the superfluous nonsense seen in other videos. So, if one were to seal up the bottom plug, and fill from the top, would that trap too much air during fill?
This oil is very thick, so filling from the top with no where for air to escape would end up leaving some voids. I have always learned to fill from the bottom and vent out the top till I get flow from the top plug hole. Might work the other way, but I don't recommend it.
Not sure on the oz....but buy 2 quarts and fill till the oil comes out the top plug hole. Let it sit a bit, and pump a bit more till it comes out the top hole again...then you are good. I use just over 1 quart usually.
Make sure you install right size vent plugs to upper and lower holes. I broke off magnet on upper drain plug and had to pull lower unit to remove it. Simple oil change ended up costing me big $$$$!!!!!! Simple mistake.

Correct, that oil does not get changed as it is mix with the gas in the motor. As the level drops, just top it back off.

I have a 2020 VTEC. Is the lower unit going to be the same? I couldn't find the upper vent plug on mine
I believe the 2020 is a Gen 2...these are Gen 1 ETEC's...not sure on a Gen 2 Lower Unit

What weight oil did u use.? We're u get the filler pump for drain threads?
Not sure on the weight, this was the OEM Fluid from the marina. I bought the pump at Walmart of all places
On Evinrude's website, they have a lube pump large and a lube pump small listed. What size was the pump you used in the video? Thanks.
Mine is the smaller pump....the larger one works with 1 gallon containers and I use the smaller containers.

If I don't have a torque wrench that shows me the poundage can I just hand tighten it? Is it crucial enough to purchase one?
official answer is yes torque it correctly....but honestly a nice hand tight is good...just don't way over tighten it.
