And his second highest stat is Wisdom. Didn't panic. Didn't threaten. Stayed friendly and non-threatening. Pointed stuff out. Was helpful and practical.

It's because Ships (both Air and Sea) benefit from the Square Cube Law, in which the mass of the object increases disproportionaly as the object volume gets higher, which means if you make a bigger boat the better it will float, the Captain's Balls are so damn massive it kept the entire series afloat

This Captain is likely one of the smartest people in the show. Smarter than you would think at first look
0:01 He see Isaac and a bunch of monsters and not worried, just intrigued. Its possible that he is slightly worried, but age and experience has likely taught him that looks are deceiving, and at that point nether Isaac or the monsters (I don't what you would call them) are attacking. Isaac is the one walking forward so clearly he's in charge. If Isaac wasn't there, I think the Captain would have shown signs of fear where here he either doesn't have it or is really good at not showing.
0:16 Isaac says that he'll kill the captain and his crew and take the ship. But if Isaac was really wanting to do that, than why talk about it? He could have just attacked, and instead he ruins what surprise he had. It seems that while Isaac is open and willing to kill, he's just exploring his options and the Captain notices that.
0:20 The Captain freely acknowledges that Isaac and the monsters could just kill him with no problem. He's not letting hate or fear drive his choices. This was shown earlier when Isaac told the city guards that he and his monster army were passing through and at that time, they hadn't done anything violent yet until they were met with aggressive force.
0:28 The Captain tells Isaac that there's a reason why sailing is a profession, and just killing him and taking the ship won't really come as easy as they think. Isaac even says "sailing a boat can't be that hard" implying that he has no real experience on how and is just assuming it won't be difficult.
0:40 Isaac tells the Captain that the people he encountered earlier he dealt with violently cause "they didn't make decent decisions" implying that Isaac and the monsters while violent only responded with violences as in they didn't start it. Again suggesting that while Isaac is willing to kill, he is the kind of person to look for other options other than bloodshed.
0:45 Captain tells Isaac that if he offers more than just implied safety than the message gets across better as now there's an actually gained goal to do what Isaac wants than just being told not to mess with him. This also hints what the Captain is willing to accept, even before Isaac was aware he was offering to pay the Captain. The Captain also asks for Isaac's word (He knows by what he's heard from Isaac involving what kind of character he has, he would personally want to avoid blood shed). Its also in my opinion, in a very slight way implies a small threat as if they're on the ship and say that Isaac or the monster decides to attack the ship mates, then they're out at sea and now have to sail a ship which Isaac himself said he had no real experience in doing.
Moral of the clip. Don't allow hate and/or fear lead your actions alone, and talk with people even if your life is at possible risk to see what they really want and what kind of person you're dealing with.
And with his talk with Isaac later. The captain is easily one of the best characters.
Excellent Analysis! With such much information, these days its easy for people to draw conclusions based on one perspective. Best to look at all sides of the story before coming up with an answer.

This captain has quite possibly the biggest balls to exist. He just persuaded a dude with an army of monsters to not kill him and his crew to ride his ship, but to also pay them for said purpose. This man, is hands down what I wish to become as a bard in dungeons and dragons!

Why bard? You need to have something to offer to the man who threaten you. But what can a mere bard give to a freakin forgemaster? A song?
Bard? I'm thinking Cleric, maybe a Cleric of Valkur, the God of Voyagers and Seafarers and safe passage over the seas. This Captain has both tremendous Wisdom and tremendous Charisma, the two Abilities which Clerics need most.
...and as soon as I master my imitation of that Captain's accent, I know exactly what _my_ next D&D character's going to be! >:)

Bards are also masters of speech and words, and how many times have we seen "mere" words change the course of an entire story, including this one? Isaac goes from thinking "I'm going to exterminate all humanity" to "I'm going to enlighten and redeem all humanity," all in the course of one voyage. A few well-chosen words and Lucifer lets Orpheus walk out of Hell, a few poorly chosen words and we end up with the Trojan War. Words can be more powerful than one may think. Wouldn't you agree?

Yet Isaac drags them around into population centres, acting like he's done nothing wrong and then pretends to be the victim when he's asked to leave by guardsmen that are doing their fucking jobs.
Open your god damned eyes, Isaac is not the victim of this situation... the fault falls on him and him alone.

@@linebeckthejohoe4876 Money is a means by which you can pay for trust. In a deal, trust is more valuable than money. Showing goodwill by offering to pay for passage will automatically make people more inclined to trust you. The Captain is saying Isaac hadn't done anything to give the men reason to trust him, which is why they stopped him and insisted he left. He's a stranger in town followed by a pack of demons. Yeah, if he genuinely wanted to kill them he could have done so at any point. But thinking "oh maybe the fact that he hasn't done anything now means he won't do anything later" is not a smart move. What if he sets the demons lose once he gets further into the city? Then it would be their fault because they let him enter.
The Captain may also be implying that there are easier ways to manipulate and avoid bloodshed by being clever. Tempt the guards to look the other way with a bribe and you'll get what you want. Instead of just hating humanity for it being corrupt and full of sin, use it to your advantage.
The Captain is sly. He knows people very well. He's trying to tell Isaac to size up the situation and interact appropriately rather than get frustrated and turn to violence. Try different things first - THEN, if all options are exhausted, do whatever you want.

The coins were just a formality- The Captain's massive steel balls are already worth more coins than Isaac's entire demon army could even carry

Its quite paradox, he killed so many people in his life, yet I cant help myself but to think he is a better person than most at the end.
I love that not only did he save his crew's life and possibly the entire human race, he got paid for it by demanding the forgemaster with an army behind him to give him money.
Issac’s encounter with The Captain is one that may help shape his future, to potentially turn away from destroying humanity and adopt a new path.
For The Captain, it was another interesting experience to cure his boredom
The Captain’s Talk No Jutsu is over 9000.
Issac tried to intimidate, Roles a nat 1, The captain counters with persuasion, roles a nat 20, follows with insite, roles another nat 20, Makes an offer with more persuasion, roles another nat 20.
Never EVER underestimate the power of a high Charisma stat and good roles.
There is no critical success and failure on skill roles.
So captain probably has such high stats that he is very good at convincing.

One of the best scenes in anime I love these scenes specially w/ Isaac and the Captain. It feels like chillin and relaxing to watch.
Refreshing to see an actual human act with hospitality and not only got paid but saved himself and his crew.

The Captain was one of the best characters in this show. I need more conversation scenes with him lmao.
I'm willing to bet good money that this particular Captain has had his own share of adventures, the likes of which you'd expect to see Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard starring in. And along the way, he's seen and done stuff that makes a menacing army of demons and their Forgemaster leader seem like a Tuesday to him.
And I'm willing to bet he's actually Grant D'Nasty; the last playable character from Castelvania 3.

The Captain made a good point about the coins. Isaac expected people to take huge risks by letting him and his monsters through their towns, on nothing but his word, and without providing anything in return.

Isaac was exposed to a cruel and harsh upbrining, and then Dracula found him as a kid and that's the only world he knew.
So while "naivete" is accurate, "stubborn" is definitely not a fitting deacription, because we actually saw the opposite. Isaac was willing to listen to the views of others and give them a great deal of thought, and he was willing to learn and adjust his thoughts and behaviour.
There was nothing "stubborn" about him.
I just love how this series makes hate, yet love the world at the same time
This scene is just so cute to me like for 1. Isaac is somewhat happy and made a friend instead of all angry at humans.
2. It’s peaceful and light hearted
3. Isaac really just wanted to be talked to like a person instead of threatened which shows that Isaac only uses violence when he has to.
4. Isaac is just a dude tryna pass and rescue his friend who betrayed him from a bunch of feminazi extremist Vampire ladies because that’s who he is. You know

No king wish to see a stranger bring a carnival of death to just goes around his city. And this world is familiar with demon, night creature, they defend themself for a long time, Issac army just happen to be stronger and more organize than the wild monster.
