I was so shocked when we met the captain this season. A man who could talk with so much sense and reason, but who has clearly seen some shit and understands the nature if the world. He came into isaac's story and not only made him hopeful, but made his story the best in the season
@Crab in A Top Hat Essential lesson in general. You should also let the Melancholy of our World be. That means, we Open our Eyes for the cold grotesque truth about our World, nevertheless how hard & painfully the Revelations are. The worthy Price of soul Evolution.
"Revenge is good, bastards need punishin'..." It's not often that a wise man like the Captain promotes something like revenge, he's a very interesting character. I hope we'll see more of him in the next season.
What really defined this scene for me was when Isaac asks the Captain if he disagrees that humans are cruel and the Captain just takes a drink and straight faced says: "No. I've been cruel. It's a cruel world." It was so honest that it caught Isaac completely off guard.
Although, yes, revenge as a concept is bad, there's nothing innately wrong or unreasonable with frustrated people seeking even the most fleeting catharsis or wanting to see Karma work its magic. There are bad people in the world, but with how many people there are, it would be foolish not to expect that, just as it would be foolish to believe good people don't exist. That's just how people work. That said, some people experience life and happen to mostly or only be surrounded by one or the other, so as foolish as either of those beliefs may be, they aren't always without fair reason.
@@luminozero it ultimately reinforces his point to Isaac. Is humanity cruel or kind? Just or unjust? Good, evil or something between? Ultimately humanity is all of these things. Its as true here and now in the real world as it was in the 15th century when the show is set. Its the one facet of Isaac's worldview that he never took into account. That human nature is not as black and white as he initially believed
Revenge isn't always bad, just as justice isn't always good. Acts both good and bad have been committed under the umbrella of both words. The line between revenge and justice is a thin one and I'm glad that revenge is treated as something morally grey here instead of just outright bad.
I love this scene for a particular reason. When the Captain says he would end human kindness too, Isaac immediately looks at the mirror the shop owner gave him. He still recognizes kindness and love in SOME people. I feel like at this point he pondered whether he was as blinded by anger of humanity as Dracula was.
I think the Captain kind of pointed that out. In the same the shop keeper gave him that box and the guards told him and his hoard to leave or be killed, and Isaac decided that the jerk guards opinion mattered more than the shop keepers kindness. Isaac repeatedly chose to be more like the guard and hurt people on the grounds that "they were rude" because, imo, it fits his established opinion that all humans are all bad and all deserve to die because of it, while acts of kindness create an uncomfortable ambivalence that humans can be both good and bad and that's OK. Like a lot of cynical jerks and edge lords out there it's easier to expect the worse in everyone and feel good about yourself for being correct rather then accept the uncomfortable uncertainty that comes with moral ambiguities.
That’s actually one of the best wisdoms I’ve ever heard in an animated series. I would honestly never expect to hear it from a pirate. Love it so much!
Why not pirates been on both sides. He's been a good guy and he's been a bad guy. He's done good things and he's done evil things and he's smart enough to not have any illusions about why he did those things. it's the wisdom that comes with age and simply just not giving a f*ck about pretending anymore. Pirate guy knows who he is and he knows his place in the world. Isaac is lost and doesn't know what to do or make of himself. The captain called him out for that, he straight-up calls him out asking him what comes next after you win?
Winnie the Boogaloo yea absolutely! It’s just that I wasn’t thinking so deeply into anything and usually that’s not how they portray a pirate especially in a series where the focus are vampires, hunters and forgemasters. It’s just an expectation thing, I was not prepared for that outcome which got me by surprise in a good way.
That's the genius of this scene, it doesn't treat vengeance like this glorified justification for the self-righteous. It breaks down what it means to be human and offers a better way than just " Human bad, they need to be destroyed". This scene really spits in the face of cynics and self-righteous edgelords who can't see the world beyond their own grievances. The best aspects of humanity to make a better world should be nurtured because ultimately it's those qualities that will save us from ourselves.
@@dusanburic4994 actually, that’s a very narrow way of looking at the speech. It’s not dismissing revenge at all, in fact the Captain even says revenge is necessary in some ways. What’s being shown is that there is always an alternative to all out vengeance. Can you destroy the human race? Yes, and thus get rid of cruelty, however you now get rid of all the good to. The captain merely pointed out that Issac did enjoy the good in humans, Thats the very reason The Captain is alive. So he knows Issac doesn’t fully hate humanity, just the nasty bits. So he’s reasoning with that. I believe this speech also gives an alternative way of dealing with cynicism besides brushing it off like both of you did. Reason with it, do people suck? Humans are complex AF, we learn new things about the brain every single day, isn’t that Amazing ? The writers of this show did great! Very thought provoking.
That's what I love about this show. It shows that thinking Humanity is a sinking ship and evil isn't some deep thought, but rather a very nieve view of humanity as a whole. To say all of us are evil is just down right untrue and thats not a message thats seen a lot today.
I always love how caught off guard Isaac is by the Captain not denying humans are cruel. Like, it never crossed his mind that others could properly acknowledge it
Humans have the unique gift of empathy, to be able to see things from another perspective. I like that the Captain is basically inviting Isaac to come back to his human side, instead of clinging to his vampiric ideals.
Every time Captain says "I've been cruel" I just wonder what sort of man he is. Is Isaac sitting with a man possibly worse then any villain we've seen in the series so far? Is he bloodthirsty and just taking the odd break to hear a story before he goes back out to cause hell on the sea? Is he a character true to real life pirates? A killer, a thief, a monster. How much blood is on the Captains hands? Is Isaac's own villainy merely enforced by his end goal of killing all humanity and at this present time, when comparing what these two have achieved and done, the Captain is so much worse. It would explain why the Captain easily admits his appreciation for revenge. And given the Captain's skin and accent, quite possibly, his past could've been similar to Isaac's. He might have been enslaved at some point which gave him his sense of cynicism. Something that happened to him or something he did gave him an insight into the horrors of humanity (note the scar on his cheek). I mean, he barely reacts to a story of vampires, as if he's seen it all and maybe even too much. But, at the end of all this, the Captain is probably one of the most optimistic characters in this series so far. Which is admirable. I don't know for sure but judging by his look he's older than a lot of the characters in the series. The captain has seen life and pain. And he's probably always gonna live with it. But he pushes Isaac to the path of creation and prosperity. Makes you wonder how much actions define us. Is it possible for someone like Isaac to turn around and do good?
Isaac supposedly hates humankind, but he was very quickly convinced to spare certain humans when they charmed him. The shopkeeper. The Captain. Miranda. Isaac probably has the potential for benevolence... but his malevolence runs deep at the moment.

Best character by far' complete control in the air, highest jump, and could cling and climb any wall or ceiling in entire game like fucking spiderman.
Man, this one and a half minute scene really is one of if not the most important turning points in Isaac's story. In particular, Isaac finally growing out of Dracula's shadow and finally coming to terms with that Dracula might have been wrong. In particular, the Captain's line about "But you also end human kindness too. No more jokes, no more gifts, no more surprises" is a lesson for Isaac, but has surprising resonance with Dracula's story as well. Because of his wife's death, Dracula set out to slaughter all of humanity in the world. But in his rage, he lost sight of one important detail: his wife was also human. Aa woman who was kind, who made jokes with Dracula, surprised him with her spirit, and gave him his greatest gift in his son. By setting out to destroy humanity, Dracula was killing all of Lisa's murderers, but he was also killing all the people like Lisa. That was perhaps Dracula's greatest failing. And now, here is Isaac. He has the chance to follow exactly in Dracula's footsteps and doggedly wants to do so. But the Captain is inadvertently pointing out to Isaac that he has the chance to AVOID Dracula's mistakes as well. To become someone better. And while it takes him some time to reach it, I think Isaac does. he lets go of his revenge, and even comes to admit that Dracula was not a good ruler nor a perfect person. And with that Isaac proves that in his own way he has already become a better person than Dracula and that however his story unfolds, it will likely be much better for himself and the world. And the fact the writers managed to pull off this bit of parallel writing between two character arcs in a way that didn't feel repetitive or that it was beating us over the head was simply perfection.
The water in the glass settles, showing his reflection. In my opinion, this could signify his mind settling and thinking beyond his anger, allowing him to literally reflect on his actions and path he will take in the future.
i just love how, during this entire scene, the camera either pans slowly or just cuts straight to Isaac's or the captain's face and yet in @1:08 it's a sudden quick pan to Isaac. I'd like to think they tried to show how Isaac was caught off guard by the question and that "teaching humans to be kind" was really something he never considered 😁

Isaac met a few people he was intrigued by or even respected. He let them live. Isaac isn't hell bent on wiping out humanity - it's what he tells himself, but isn't. Dracula intensified that idea, but in his adventures he ran into a few very interesting people that he was so charmed by that it'll make him question the validity of wiping out humanity.
I haven't watched this. I know Dracula gathered demons and vampires to kill humans off however. And this captain, this pirate...If only he could have a little moment like this and speak to Dracula. He might light up the humanity that might have been left in him. His words reminds me of Lisa and her way of live. Drac might have seen that.
The fact that LISA is in HELL makes me believe that there isn't going to be a happy ending. If such a person can end up in hell for...? (Seriously, what was her sin? Was it giving Dracula a chance?) Then that means the world itself, or even God, is inherently evil. Humanity doesn't need to be evil or good, because that becomes either irrelevant or redundant. It's not often that a wise man like the Captain promotes something like revenge, he's a very interesting character.
I hope we'll see more of him in the next season.
He's seen the world first hand.
What really defined this scene for me was when Isaac asks the Captain if he disagrees that humans are cruel and the Captain just takes a drink and straight faced says:
"No. I've been cruel. It's a cruel world."
It was so honest that it caught Isaac completely off guard.
This pirate came out of an ASMR video
Why not pirates been on both sides. He's been a good guy and he's been a bad guy. He's done good things and he's done evil things and he's smart enough to not have any illusions about why he did those things.

For real bro, been on a castlevania clip spree tonight and the amount of edgelords treating dracula and his plan as just is astounding.
Yes, does the world maybe need a purge? Sometimes, but if you love any thing about this world, maybe try a different path?

Humans have the unique gift of empathy, to be able to see things from another perspective.
I like that the Captain is basically inviting Isaac to come back to his human side, instead of clinging to his vampiric ideals.
The Captain is a wise man, with years of experience in dealing with people and a passion for their stories.
And with one conversation and a cup of lime water, Captain saved humanity.
@@mbpm6135 If that’s the case then what will Isaac do after he gets his revenge? Live out Dracula’s was purpose in life? or just live isolated like Alucard and fade into time? Or he could also teach others to be kind to be better human beings
@@jonathanmorris7445 Well that's what the Captain himself wondered too. What if you kill all the humans in the world, what will you do then? And Isaac didn't know.

But after being hurt so many times he only treats others how they treat him, often times they don’t treat Isaac any good. He seeks revenge. But when people treat him right and accordingly, he mirrors their treatment.
He is reasonable, trying to reason with various soldiers to not be slaughtered if they kindly let him through.
Isaac is trying to fulfill something, seeking revenge for his pain because he only sees the bad of humanity, a sort of justice maybe.. but deep down he knows good. But I won’t be surprised if he continues his path to destroying humanity, it is his story.
I think captain might have a backstory like that of iroh in Avatar the Last Airbender.

So glad Isaac didn't command his beasties to eat the captain. I think Isaac have some humanity left of him.

I cannot say. But in the world of Castlevania the netflix series....It seems the church somehow holds the power of what sin is. Dooming people to a life in hell even if they never did a thing wrong.
Maybe that is going to be something we see in the next season.
I cant be sure though. Since that would make the church or whatever religions there are, have the power of sending someone to hell or heaven....Something GOD created and set rules in stone for.
Back from s4. The Nameless Captain pulled through in the end.
Their conversation is amazing
Isaac journey in season 3 has become a must see
This man needs to council Thanos too.... whoever wrote castlevania is a god damn philosopher, and i love it.
