If it's any consolation, the youtube video compression algorithms are fucky. I could set a delay or inverse delay on the video / audio to resync their phase. I could use mathematics to calculate the phase offset to a microsecond, and communicate that information to you. But what I can't do is predict how youtube will eviscerate the upload again, because the coders who designed this website have ascended logic, to a realm that is beyond reason. It's the land of _"intentionally including fucky code that nobody else can anticipate or fix for the purpose of job security."_
*HOWEVER:* The problem that needs solving is the sample rates. The audio is approximately 2 seconds longer than the video, which is why it desyncs the longer you watch it. Beyond that, it's anybody's guess why this website chronically fails to count seconds correctly, but if you finaggle with the >> *[ SAMPLE RATE ]*

It is really interesting that they portrait the Bishop like this. I don't think the series was bent on blaming the Church for the causes. It was more towards those in power. Yes, I bet there are a lot of good people working for the church but in those times when religion was at it's strongest, there were people who abuse the power of the church for themselves rather than God and still try to convince themselves that what they are doing is god's word, the thing is what is god's word. If this video went right up until the end, then it would have shown the greed the Bishop had of becoming the Church when all the other towns were destroyed.

      You're wrong.
The show is clearly pointing out the hostility imparted by religious practitioners who practice their religion on others. The Bishop isn't serving his own needs, and if he was, that wouldn't be why he's a psychopath. He's a psychopath because he practices religion on people who don't share his faith. You can be crazy all you want to yourself, but the moment you inflict it on others against their will, it's a form hostility. It's still religious. It's still in the service of church. It's both those things _and_ it's hostile at the same time, because being religious doesn't give you a pass on psychopathic actions against others.
By buying into this B.S. that if he was only not selfish as much, he wouldn't be an asshole, you're committing the very god damn same mistake as this fictional Bishop did; oh, if only he was _more_ authentically religious it would be okay. If he only he burned Lisa at the stake for not selfish reasons, it would be okay, huh? No. Just no. It's not that he wasn't authentically religious enough. That isn't the mistake here, Jesus Christ... get a clue already. 😏

Which, can only be true in technicality. Maybe he wouldn’t be in this _exact_ situation, shooting himself in the feet with wide spread, but at the very least he might have moved to prevent some of the inciting event from occurring to begin with, and been able to see things as they really were in his current situation. One thing that I like about this series is that while it does make a point of saying that corrupt people like the Bishop and Arch-Bishop are to blame for Dracula’s wrath being incurred, it doesn’t blame religion in general for it and even makes a point of showing that the big man upstairs wasn’t looking favourably on what was being done in His name. Like when the Bishop gets his just deserts because his actions have led to his church no longer being protected from the presence of hellspawn (and their lethal ‘reason you suck’ speech) yet that same night another/actual priest who helps in defending the city is able to sanctify water to kill demons with. I was a little confused on why the bishop’s reanimated corpse was able to do the same thing in season 2, but then it occurred to me that with Henry (who is known to be naive and wanting to prevent a senseless genocide) pulling the strings on said reanimated corpse, he might have been given a pass either for being a lesser evil with relatively good intentions because the intention of the action itself was to stop Dracula’s war of annihilation, whereas the Bishop hiding in the church with nobody around was likely to maximize his own chances of survival while ordering the deaths of even more innocent people for his own benefit.

I too thought it was dumb that an unholy corpse was able to consecrate water, and I think they should have changed how it was handled, maybe by cursing the river or something. But with what canonically happened, I think that implies that the effects of ordination seem to be permanent and latent on the body of a clergyman, and cannot be revoked even upon death, or God refuses to do so. He will unconsecrate places, but not people it seems. This God does seem to be a bit ruthless though. A force that thinks he is doing the things he does for "the greater good", without ever doubting that he may be wrong. he doesn't care about the rights of the speakers, because in his eyes he is doing this for both the cities own "safety", and also in the name of god. he was the one who started all of draculas rage and want for humanities extinction, but he doesn't want to believe it _was_ his fault and what he did is truly righteous.

It's somewhat strange that sometimes there's that one villain in a story who comes off as worse than the main antagonist.

Another example of this is Delores Umbridge and Cornelius Fudge. I'd argue that they're more hated by Potterheads alike than Voldemort himself 😂

    • @PlexusCaeruleum

I know, right? Delores would be a way better antagonist in terms of villainous methods, but then again Voldermort was the one who started it all. Whereas here, the Bishop manages to be both more evil, AND sets the events in motion by having Lisa executed.

Although it was disappointing that the priesthood of Wallachia are depicted as uniformly Catholic, as opposed to the diverse mix of Orthodox Christianity, Judaism & Sunni Islam that represented the religious beliefs of the people of Eastern Europe in Ottoman times, the Bishop is one of the most amazingly well portrayed villains in anime, particularly in terms of presenting a villain who believes themselves correct.
