About Escape from Tarkov
Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore and realistic online first-person action RPG with MMO features developed by Russian Saint-Petersburg-based game developer, Battlestate Games. Set in the fictional Norvinsk region located on the frontier between Russia and Europe, the metropolis of Tarkov was plunged into anarchy thanks to the Contract Wars. What was once a bustling city, is now roamed by rivalling scavenger gangs, former private military forces, and black ops units. Between them all, there's you, your stash, and the escape back to the free world from the depths of Tarkov.
I can absolutely attest to scavving while at work. Boring meeting? Scav up. Got 25 minutes before the next client call? Scav up. Lunch Break? Scav up.
I don't really play live anymore as SPT has grabbed me over the last 12-18 months but I definitely leaned on scav runs and could make a ton of money and get quest items and hideout stuff with zero stress.
SPT is amazing. The coop mod is cool too. I like that we can mod the AI.

Perspective here - I have 5k hours in EFT and I burned out late last year/early this year. ABI brought me back into the genre, and if anything , it reminded me why I enjoy extraction shooters. So yes, the game is a rip-off….but it will bring people back to the genre - meaning tarkov will be revived.
It’s a long term win-win, with a short term lose-lose.

Tarkov will either get revived or die depending on Nikita's actions, EFT is in a pretty bad position right now, people are tired of Nikita's bs, so it highly depends, if Nikita does another bad move akin to Unheard, it's gonna implode so hard.
This game won't kill Tarkov. However, people have some type of choice nowadays? Before, there weren't anything as close to tarkov as arena is now. It's great IMO since now you can switch games in same genre and get similar experiences. ABI is less hardcore and more arcadey which makes it good time killer, tarkov will stay a grindfest which is also cool. People need to stop fighting between to and concentrate on leading devs of both games to the right direction (if devs are willing to listen that is, lol).

@@XxadudeXx Lobbies will still pop for a loooong time. In that sense Tarkov will never really die. The game will still be playable with around 200 concurrent players. However if they lose 90% of the player base, I doubt they'd still be able to make a profit and keep developing.
The game still has tons of players, a lot of people don't care at the end of the day, they just wanna have fun, plus they are slowly fixing the game.

I think tarkov will never really “die” per say just due to the fact that it has such a cult following. but I do think It’s not lookin good for multiplayer. SPT looks more promising

I loved tarkov back in like 2019-2020 but for the last like 2 years I have been wanting to jump from tarkov. At first I was planning on hopping to gray zone but ABI is definitely more what I wanted on top of feeling amazing.

I'm personally glad this game is a rip-off. I've been wishing for a game to clone Tarkov and not make the same BS changes for years. BSG have gotten too comfortable over the years basically having a monopoly on the genre to such a degree that they feel as if they could get away with anything.
I can't wait to see Grey Zone and ABE get more time in development and what they can do with that time.

@@ogsimpson3253 That's what they are doing though. They ripped the whole thing off and improved some major pain points. So many obvious QoL improvements are exactly what I wanted in Tarkov for years now. For me it's Tarkov but better.
I know this game is basically a Tarkov knockoff but I personally enjoy it more. To me its more of a casual Tarkov. I couldn't play Tarkov because i couldn't figure out extractions locations and stuff like that. I even tried doing it with third party maps but could still never find any places i needed to go. I like that this game has a map. I also like it helps you know what ammo is which by the magazine's glowing green. I like being able to know who my teammates are also so having names over them is a nice touch. I know people who play Tarkov may shit on this opinion but this is the Extraction shooter I've wanted for a long time. This game is still by no means easy but those changes make it accessible for more people like me. I think Tarkov is for more realistic type people whereas Arena Breakout is for more semi realistic type of people like me, and by the popularity of the game I'm assuming a lot of others to. This game will also be a good competitor to Tarkov making that team strive harder to be the better game and vice versa. Just my opinion not saying Kleans wrong the games are for two different types of people who enjoy the extraction genre.
Okay I respect ABI simply for this fact. People are always saying if you don't like the game let's see you do it better. Clearly the devs of ABI have played a ton of tarkov. And like many of the community were upset with things in the game. So they said screw it we will make our own but better and therefore this is how ABI was born. I respect that 100%
BSG Killed Tarkov back in the worrun days where you could actually be a skilled player and make plays and make profit from pvp. Changes like weight / dynamic loot ruined the skill based tarkov experience which was the best era around 4 years ago.

the reason it is hard to make money in Abu is because they want you to buy cash from a store at some point, this is the reason why all meta gear is instantly available at the start. Ammo is like the most expensive thing ever in Abi and that is what you are going to swipe your card for.

People aren't seeing that this game is a net win for the genre as a whole. I think it's great they're copying some of BSG's winning formulae... because then BSG can copy some of ABI's winning formulae to further enhance their game too. We've desperately needed this kind of competition in the genre for years now. Yes this seems like an L in the short term.. but I whole heartedly believe we're gonna have way better extraction looter shooter titles because of what's happening right now.
I couldn’t care less if it’s a copy, you don’t scam the people who put your game on their backs for years, quadruple down before trying to halfway walk it back. Trey you can absolutely take your bias away and look at a situation objectively, saying BSG “kinda put themselves in a bad spot” is an extreme understatement and tells me how unaware he is of what they really did. If someone robbed you in real life for 150$ would you not want them to face the maximum consequences? “I’m sorry you guys are feeling this way” is diabolical work😂😂😂😂

Also as a 3500+ hour player who has seen 10 wipes? maybe more, seeing the same bugs get old AF. Also I remember the days where you could go to labs without hackers, and only after you reached 80+ Kilos did you really get encumbered, those where the days. Now I basically start the raid with a penalty, then kill one dude, and you better have 4 stims just to get out, maybe more. I don't even want to talk about the BS inertia. They spent more time making the game less fun, and ABI saw an opportunity and took it.
16:29 correct, people that can separate their interests from their personalities understand this is a huge win for gamers and the future of the genre.
The only thing that makes this game different is how it's more casual and has better movement, graphics, and gunplay. Everything is basically a copy and paste, but I think that's okay (aside from stealing assets, which I honestly don't know if it's fully true.)
Tarkov feels like your a captain of a small boat riding the tidal waves that BSG control and we can't hold the boat together anymore. It's a real monopoly because Tarkov is the ONLY hardcore extraction shooter that has that level of detail to it. So getting another game that almost guarantees competition for BSG to do better not only for being a game dev, but also as a company. Tarkov shot itself in the foot after the whole "Unheard" edition and honestly good.
Tarkov can be better, but they almost, if not, barely listen to the community to make it better. So bring in ABI, bring in competition. Let's make these companies work their asses of to make good games.
As a guy who did scav runs from work cause it was all wins.. why you gotta out me like that lol. Doing it showed me how powerful/broken scav running is. Maybe there could be a diminishing returns system to scav runs. Like as time-in-raid catches up to your PMC your timer gets longer? And maybe even gatekeeps access to your scav until you have more PMC raid time? Idk that's a 30s thought so its not perfect.
really good point that scav runs are ruining the game. the garbage loot should be worth WAY less. there needs to be some changes to the incentive system in the game, idk what they need to do but pvp in tarkov feels like bootycheeks

Probably something no one is considering, is ABI being more accessible can bring more people into the genre. Eventually they’re hear “have you ever played tarkov”.. they’ve already learned the general key binds from ABI and it could be a stepping stone into tarkov to get new players in.
Exactly if u just jump into tarkov solo good luck. I luckily had a few buddies that learned the game the hardway so I didnt have too. Alot to learn about tarkov which could turn people off from the game.

I don't know why people say Arena Breakout is a Tarkov copy. All you need to do is to watch some gameplay. For example the extract smoke flare thingy is RED, not green. It's almost the exact opposite color guys!
Appreciate your take and i have to agree. I just quit tarkov for this wipe only because i was burnt out, not for the drama. I haven't tried breakout yet but i probably will. Not sure it has the depth to keep me. I'll definitely be on board with tarkov next wipe. I love all the cancelling ppl these days for having a personal take. It's ridiculous, especially when we are talking video games.
There's plenty of room for both. I've been fortunate enough to get in on the closed beta for ABI and love the countless QOL features it has. I hope Tarkov sees these and implements them. Meanwhile, I have been primarily playing SPT (better AI, no cheaters, low queue times) nothing can touch Tarkov's atmosphere. I'll continue to enjoy both. Nikita definitely needs to sell that fancy car he did that photoshoot with and hire a better PR person though 😆
I think it's a good thing that more Devs making extraction shooters. I never understood the whole "it's a tarkov clone" argument. So nobody else can make an EFT style game outside BSG? That's just a bad argument. The more games, the more variety and innovation we get. Some will have more QOL features and some will be super hardcore. Imagine if we never got Wolfenstein or Doom "style" games, we would have no Hexen, Duke Nukem, and no Unreal & Unreal tournament etc. Competition is always a good thing.
me and my bud that play tarkov. we always alternate each raid. we do a PMC and then when that raid is over, we switch to scav. we stay rich lol

We had this same conversation about Quake and Unreal. Games will AAAAALLLLLWAAAAAYS copy each other. That's why there's a thing called a 'first person shooter' and a 'platformer' and such. Because people made something cool then a LOT of other people made VERY similar very cool things.

man i LOVE tarky. have 2k hours about w a 9kd. tried arena out on mobile and the games fun af, cant wait to get it when it comes out fully for pc. dont really get why people act like they can only like 1 or the other.
1 thing I've noticed from ABI, it feels wayyy easier than Tarkov. First game I got 16 kills with 3 operators in there. Hence I have a kd of 2.47 as pmc on tarkov which isn't even good imo. Game seems way to simple imo.

I look at it this way if you like the game and you enjoy the game then it doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks their opinion at the end end of the day does not matter.
Only pay to win item or function in tarkov is cheats. No amount of ammo or guns or pockets will make you win or survive a raid. Skills or game knowledge or cheats are the only things that will help you survive a raid.
I wouldn't be surprised if the pc version of arena is a older version of SPT
I got burned out in Tarkov. I just wanted to wait until they made more improvements and stopped wipes. Doing the same missions for years just got to me. This is a great alternative until they get their schite together. What they did with the Unheard of Edition just sucks. I own EoD and they totally middle-fingered us. Just my opinion.
On mobile, using painkillers doesn’t sharpen, it only increases vibrance/saturation.
Saying Arena Breakout is “Tarkov for dads” is always silly to me. Just because it does everything better than Tarkov doesn’t make it “Tarkov for dads”, it’s just the “better Tarkov”
Lastly, Arena Breakout deserves a sh!t ton of praise for making and showing the world what a proper extraction shooter should be. What’s your boy smoking? I want some of that.
The first thing that got me, was when it came out on mobile and I saw ads with the inventory looking the exact same, and also the golden rooster and bronze lion, which I don’t know if they are actual historical things or made up by bsg
Bryan and his team working on ABI definitely played more Tarkov than Nikita himself. They have played Tarkov a lot and figured the weak spots, they made a game and fixed it in their game, what is wrong with that?
More people are playing and talking about both games right now. I actually hope to see a collaboration between the developers to make the biggest extraction shooter ever

People need to learn the concept of -like , all arpg are diablo-like . All extraction shooters will be tarkov-like . You might like it or not but thats how it works , something works you take the same formula with your touch on it, welcome to real world
they deserve praise for having matchmaking that doesnt take 10+ minutes and launching with an optimized game. I hope they ripoff the maps 1:1 soon.
I get it klean is gonna be bias AF when it comes to Abi vs eft but at the end of the day numbers don't lie let's come back to this in 6 months and see what game is where. Also I agree abi is def more difficult when it comes to pvp got 5k hours in dayz and 3k in eft and i struggle in abi daily an that's part of the reason what makes me love the game honestly. Anyway like I say I would be willing to bet 6 months from now ABI will be doing just as good if not better then what it currently is now.
I didn't hear a single critique of the game in terms of quality or game design. It was all "This game copied Tarkov." Okay? How is that your concern from a consumer's perspective? And saying ABI deserves no praise because it is unoriginal is just plain ignorant. It might not deserve praise for the things it copies but it undoubtably deserves it for the things it improves upon.

Copying is how 98% of things are made unless it's a novel idea. You copy then tweak in ways you believe make it better (ie iOS and Android)
I used to scav at night , make like 15 million and then during the day I'd run sexy kits with my pmc for nice and spicy pvp..
The biggest thing that made Scav running meta is scav karma. 100%. You actually still had to compete for loot.

You were so on point with the whole "Tarkov is for Tarkov dads" thing. Everyone always acts like it's the most hardcore game ever, but in reality you're playing a game where you farm infinite money by scaving streets with your brain turned off while listening to music and avoiding all combat, so you can then keep buying the same meta loadouts to spawnkill people 10 seconds into a raid on these tiny maps. It's literally just CoD with extra steps anymore.

ABI is more competitive and PVP based. Tarkov has more RPG and soul. Both are great games but have a way different experience.

Bsg took the time too long to fix their game, now someone come and took it from them. Great for us. I stop playing tarkov a year ago. Got back to areana. Having fun. I have to disagree with Klean that EFT is the better game. Was it the first? of course, but very rarely is the first iteration of something the best, it takes competitors to either make something better, or force BSG to be better.

I realy love that they copy as much good stuff of Tarkov, I realy like Tarkov but I love the Idea that "Tarkov" gets into actually good and competent devs. BSG is just not able to even implement stuff that ABI already got in closed Beta.

about the m4 animation at 10:46 if both of these games are looking to have realistic gunplay and gun animation in their games of course the gun models and animations would be similar or even the exact same , thats not exclusive to Trakov. We're not talking about halo guns and gun animations these are actual guns that look at certain way and are handles a certain way. I just think comparing their reload animations and gun models is pointless if their both striving for realistic gunplay. Now if the textures were the same on the guns that would be different.

What everyone seems to miss is everyone wants to play a better version of tarkov. I love tarkov but can't stand BSG. AGI fixes this main issue everyone shares and does it in a away that keeps players doing what they want to do.. which is play the game.
Who cares if its similar or the same. We want to play tarkov but not BSGs Tarkov. This makes the game different. All the choices added by ABI, listened and developed from gamers feedback and ur playing a LIVE SERVICE GAME. This makes ABI different. They aren't hiding behind the "hardcore" word as an excuse not to fix the game or update the game.

I'd be happier if they weren't blatantly stealing assets and such from EFT. That being said I think its ok to take the idea of Tarkov but just add or change things that the community asks for repeatedly rather than what the dev's want.

ABI is boring after 3 days , but its a good filler for late wipe tarkov and the que time and how fast you can get into pvp is really insane , but if they dont add stuff fast it wont live more than 3 moths , greyzone died in 2 weeks :)

This is what you get as a greedy bastard development. They tried to rip of the most loyal fan base in the world ever. I don't think any game company had more loyal fans than BSG.
we paid 160 (140+tax) dollars for this game in 2017 where best games were 60 dollars and this one was barely playable because of how buggy and bad the servers were. It's 2024 and it still has one of the worst servers in online video games with horrible performance. Never got anything we asked as a community unless some streamer asked for it or unless the entire community went on fire for them to finally change something.
Also AB is free, I don't care how greedy they go on market, at the end of the day it's free. the moment you don't like it, just click uninstall, you haven't lost anything plus they have proven to be fair when it comes to microtransactions on the mobile version which is the most disgusting platform when it comes to microtransactions. So yea, F BSG and Nikita. Me and anyone with brain and self respect is moving to ABI
