S Suae maybe XPS 15 but it’s not a gaming laptops. It’s really hard to get a thin gaming laptop cause there’s thermal issues, which will cause the CPI to throttle.

Will Ad not sure, if you can, even the base mbp will work, I often run several ide’s at once and it rarely heats up
@@willad5381 It depends. If you're a CS student, yes its fine. If you do app or web development, it's fine. If you're running a local kubernetes cluster, or testing virtual networks, or really anything that involves more than minimal virtualization, you'll want the 16, but at that point, you should really be using a dev server remotely.
Josh White Eh, not every small business has a dev server available. I’ve encountered that much more than once or twice. Very cheap networks (and owners) around where I live. 😄

I'd go with a much older air, the fan is in a useless spot and you're going to have issues with anything that's not web browsing and typing.

I always see people buying too much laptop for what they actually need. I get wanting Mac for whatever reason, but if you're only using it to have a home computer for web browsing and email you don't need to max out all the specs.
In people's defense, it's really hard to assess how a laptop's going to perform. It comes with time.
I'm not saying that people make educated decisions and good life choices, I've alwasy been baffled to see people living in shit walking around with their latest iPhones (barely able to afford food and clothes beyond the bare minimum). The thing is, expertise comes with time. And even being a life-long laptop user (I've had laptops since 17 y.o. lol, that's kinda crazy how they've changed since) I can't say I know each and every one of them that well. I know enough to form an understanding of what I'm doing and what I need for it, but I can't say I know the entire industry in and out.
That's the problem with the market: dilution.
But yeah, you've got a solid point. If someone's asking if they need the top end model, they probably don't. :)

Musician here.. I got the 13" 2020 base model.. I love it. Logic and Ableton are running fine, even with a lot of 3rd party plugins running! Really the 10th gen was overkill and in Europe they're a lot more expensive than in the US.. for whatever reason. Great comparison and very glad you included music production!

That's typically APPLE thing, not giving consumers a chance to upgrade the memory/hardware on existing devices.
iphones/ipads and macbooks never had an expandable memeory option, that's how you make people pay more for something which is absolutely unnecessary.

Umm, he's being extremely nice to the point where he is overvaluing the MacBooks. Did you even watch the same video? 2 core MacBook air, are you kidding me? My phone has 4x times the cores and want half the price of the air. It's absolutely underpowered hardware in a nice packaging.
@@The4valanche I mean it does what a window pc does, and most people who buy those doesn't even need a quad core or six core processors. And don't compare a phone processor with a laptop one, because they don't do the same thing and only a handful laptop has mobile processors. It's like comparing 12GB of ram on a phone, which is totally pointless. I think specs are what makes people shy away from WIndows, every windows pc has different specs and people don't know what to do with them or whats the benefit.
Mac's specs on paper is hot garbage, but their software is great and people see the value in them.
@@The4valanche Core count does not matter. Clock speed and architecture matter way more. Most applications just use a single core most stuff.
WHen you tell a typical customer, oh it got a quard processor, six core processor, 12 core processor...do they even know what that means? IF they do know the basics, why do they think it's important to them? What do they need all those for. Value is based on what people use these products for. It's not just about the numbers.

Personally speaking:
- MB Air's heatsink is crap.
- MB Pro 13 2 TB3 port only has one fan despite having a proper thermal and use 8th gen Intel Core chipset.
- MB Pro 16 is way too big for me.
For me, MB Pro 13 4 TB3 port is the best buy. 16GB RAM and 512GB storage is more than enough.

Not a wise choice. The 4 TB3 Pro price is too high without dedicated graphic card and same large bezel like previous 13 inch Macbook Pro. Once you started thinking about "power", the 16 inch is the way to go. Paying a 1799 usd for a laptop that doesn't even offer a dedicated graphic card is absurd. The 16 inch is big, yes. But at 2kg its still lighter than some old, thick windows laptop. For me, the 4 TB3 is not that relevant in the lineup. Just like MKBHD said. You either need power or don't.

Am I the only one who would like to see a 13 inch MBP inside of a 16 MBP chassis and vice verca? I really would apreciate the bigger form factor, but I dont need the extre horsepower, where as profesionals might want a smaller MBP with a dedicated GPU.
That does seem quite unlikely as there doesn’t rlly seem to be a lot of ppl asking for this but during the next 2 year transition period to ARM chips there is a chance of that happening

It's a type of air cooling, they used it in the xbox. The fan is actually an exhaust not pull. The way it works is the fans pulls hot air out and new cool air moves through the fins connected to the cpu. But still terrible cooling method that's why Microsoft took it off the xbox. It's like they forgot about cooling until the end.
“End up making a profession out of it” literally me. My laptop I started school with wasn’t made for creative work, but the RAM & SSD were upgradeable and that was helpful.

All I know is that I very much appreciate Dave's care to line up the stacked devices. Touch corners, line up, I'm happy...
From all my experience, I pretty much agree with everything you said, expect one little thing: When it comes to the base model MacBook Pro 13, there is one actual upgrade I would recommend, and that is RAM. For me, in Germany, the upgrade from 8GB of RAM to 16GB of RAM was 80 EUR. That's a steal.
I don't say this will be necessary for most people, but: If you are a developer, like you said, web developer, app developer, 16GB is priceless when you need to run local web server(s), databases, or Virtual Machines.
Also, Photo editing: The machine is very capable when it comes to photo editing, but having 16GB or RAM over 8GB of RAM is a huge improvement when working with Photoshop or Gimp.
And last but not least: Multi-Tasking. When I run D&D games, I use this machine to run a 4K muted RUclips video on my TV, like a camp fire, for atmosphere, I play music and certain ambient sounds through multiple QuickTime instances, I got a ton of safari tabs open with our campaign wiki, dndbeyond, and my initiative tracker, and of course run my writing app with all my campaign notes. And with all that, I still need the system to be fast and snappy. There, 16GB of RAM goes a long way, too.
So, with all that being said: If you get the Base Model 13" MacBook Pro, consider investing in 16GB of RAM, cause I think it's worth the 80 EUR (100$ in US? Not sure). You will notice a great difference when it comes to photo editing, heavy multi tasking and software development, at a very minimally increased price. Also, you still paying like 1300$, or 1400 EUR, for a computer. That's a lot of money and you'd probably wanna use this device for at least 3-5 years. Paying a 100$ or 80 EUR extra is not all that much compared to the base price, but it will significantly improve the experience and capability of the machine in the long run.
Other than that: Great video. I'd support everything that's been said and would make the same recommendations if being asked.
I bought the $2000 MacBook Pro. It’s the 10th Generation Intel processor i5 that’s in it, 1TB SSD, and 16GB of 3700mHz DDR4 RAM.

@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise I know plenty of people who've upgraded the storage in their Macs - it's not even hard. The memory not being upgradeable? This isn't an anti-consumer conspiracy - it's just that Apple has different consumers with different needs and goals and metrics in their decision matrices. Soldering the memory to the motherboard makes certain attacks against a lost device a lot more complicated and expensive, so this is partially done for security. It's also done for size and weight, and those are three things that a huge proportion of Apple consumers care quite a lot about, while non-Apple consumers buy other devices that were engineered to different specs for different reasons and different consumers.

I got the 16" one because I wanted a big Screen. It's that simple for me.
Also future proofing is a real thing with MacBooks. I got a 15 inch in 2015 and I’m still using it (and will be for a while) and everyone I know who got a 13 inch then are trying to upgrade now

@@Anonymous-wp7ij I don't know, how portable a device should be for you, but it's not much heavier than my previous 2011 13" MBP. Also I usually place it on my Desk in the morning and then take it home in the evening. Not a big issue.
@@hatsnotmy9591 Not true. Depends what your are using it for. I have my Late 2013 MPB 13 inch, using it for photo editing and stuff. I do not have the need to upgrade at all. Changed the battery once since it was necessary, but thats it.

SSDs and ram are the only things that hold my ryzen 3 2200U hp laptop( got it around 380 $ in my country).this 2 core baby just works fine but almost kicks the bucket when i try to play games on it.
