I think one kind of big aspect about the M1 Macs that’s not really brought up that much is the price. If you buy the cheapest option for any of these Macs, you still get the best performance possible. It’s a pretty significant difference when you used to have to pay to spec up from an i3.

So this is why Dave was very confident in his rebuttal of Linus's opinion last Friday. He already had the machines and was speaking from personal experience..
on that video i found an explanation of why we can´t measure the m1 chip against intel/amd: ''The M1 is a RISC CPU based on the ARM instruktion set. Intel and AMD build CISC CPUs use the x_86 architecture with alot more special instructions. The performance of all RISC architectures is very workload dependent. Thats why we need a comprehensive performance test. RISC CPUs have mostly/always very high IPC because they have simple and small instructions. The downside is, that there are certain calculations, where Intel/AMD only needs to execute one instruction, but the M1 might need multiple. Thats why you don't compare IPCs and clockspeed across very different architectures.'' so even if the chips are this awesome, they can't be compared against the others because they don't work in the same way..

And now the Macs (which in my opinion were lacking because of bad cooling because of the thin design) are getting an insane upgrade. What's next? not completely overpriced storage upgrades?
Honestly, despite 2020 being a shitty year, I can’t believe how much there’s hardware advancement in the PC sides. Intel and AMD has been fighting over their products and Apple has brought their already powerful Silicon Technology from their iPhones/iPads/iPods to the PC side. Nvidia has released basically a huge upgrade over what the 10 series to 20 series transition. And AMD also is competing with Nvidia over their GPU. It’s been a shitty year for a lot of people, don’t get me wrong, people is getting sick, people is dying. But I’m certain that the year 2020 will be a good history contrast in the future where both good stuff and bad stuff has happened at the same time. I have never been happier to be a nerd for PC hardware at 2020. Good job Apple, you still have polishing to do. But at how well you did the M1 even if it’s the first generation, I’m looking forward to them invent further. We have been saying that ARM is the future, ever since we have started using RaspberryPI stuff. Yes, I know they are not powerfull. However power consumption and heat compared to computing power, have made us open our eyes and hopes for the ARM platform. We have known this for many years, and we have always said that it just need to get more powerfull. And now Apple have shown that it is possible. All we need now, is for nVidia and/or Amd, to make Linux and Unix drivers for ARM. That will be nice.

A lot of users wish for an ARM based AmigaOS 4.1 machine, however those that own AmigaOS are dead centered on PPC for some bizarre reason. We want ARM based desktop computers, no matter Mac or Linux or AmigaOS or Unix or Windows. We want it, and we want full nVidia and Amd GPU support.
@@scoalavietii8653 Dont worry.... M1 is first gen ARM mac's. These claims were also made during the PPC to Intel transition and M68K to PPC transition. And then the 386dx40 and 386sx33 came, and they wiped the floor with aprox 64k cache. Don't worry, M1 is first gen Apple-ARM.

Yeah he even said something like "oh you don't have them...?" to Linus.
on that video i found an explanation of why we can´t measure the m1 chip against intel/amd: ''The M1 is a RISC CPU based on the ARM instruktion set.
Thats why you don't compare IPCs and clockspeed across very different architectures.''
so even if the chips are this awesome, they can't be compared against the others because they don't work in the same way..
