Windows 11 also boosted the Windows laptop sales so Apple’s pricing is just wrong. They might regret it and make it cheaper on other stores like Amazon.
The fact that companies last year refused to have their laptops be compared to the M1 MacBook Air very much shows just how good the M1 Air was, and still is. It really shows that people who own the M1 Air should not have to worry about missing out on the latest and greatest
Yes Apple has some amazing engineers, im not going to say otherwise. However, i think part of why the M1 was so receptive and amazing, was that TSMC's 5nm was pretty much just allocated a huge margin of its production to apple for its first 2-3 years. The latest offerings from AMD laptops, 6nm, are starting to get there, however the true test will be Zen4 vs M1 / M2. Same Node (5nm, and only to some extent each company will have their own internal secret sauce), same year release, different companies. If Apple moves to 3nm at TSMC and secures another huge exclusivity agreement, then that again will keep Apples lead. Regardless of how good the architecture actually is.

I was heavily considering the MacBook Air M2 but the configuration that I'd want (16 GB RAM, 512 GB storage), it goes to $1600. I'd rather spend $150 more and get the 14" MacBook Pro that's on sale right now for $1750 for 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. You get a much better MiniLED display, 120 Hz and a much faster chip.
I got the M1 Air in April this year, my first ever Mac. I knew I was taking a risk ahead of the impending M2 but I am just blown away by how good it is. Better still, I got it on refurb and now no one in my country can get a refurb anymore till the trade-ins get refitted and cleaned, which could take months.
@@princecat91 US$850 but you can check your local online store. Stock just came back a few days ago too. They prepare those refurbs fast! As fast as repair turnaround times. Must have gone back to the same subcontractor factory for refitting.
I waited a whole year thinking that Macbook Air M1’s price will drop once the M2 comes out but surprisingly, it got even more expensive in my country. now I regret not getting the M1 a year ago when it was way cheaper than its current price right now 😩
The M1 is still a generation or more ahead of any other non-Apple offering. So, as long as it remains super competitive they won't lower the price. Shoulda got in on it.
Those AMD systems increasingly are becoming more and more attractive over Intel offerings. Amazing what competition brings out, the best of companies, which in turn benefits us, consumers.

I agree, If I buy a ultrabook, I will consider to buy Ryzen 6800U APU because it has powerful multi core performance and gaming/igpu performance(2x more powerful than Intel XE iGPU). Intel sucks when you look at an ultrabook which hasn't discreate GPU.
I can't recommend it enough, buying second-hand is a great option. I bought an up spec'd M1 Air (16GB, 10 Core M1 GPU, 1TB ) and it was for $800. A lot of mac people really really really take care of their latops so for me it was essentially brand new!
When you spec out the Air M2 with 16 GB RAM and 512GB which is what I recommend to future proof the Air for a few years you might as well spend $150 more and get the 14" Pro. Way better laptop. Add a Uniqfind clear case and you are good to go!
Future proof? You do know that small business, corporations, educational institutions, nonprofits, and ngos across the entire planet keep their computing devices for 5 to 7 years.
Not sure if future proofing is all that great honestly, given the usual use case for users who use it as a web browsing machine, and to read documents, take video calls and what not. They won't be utilizing much space, let alone the ram. M2 is in a weird spot I agree, but would it not make sense to end up just getting the lowest spec machine the next year anyways and still expect it to perform well? Buy used, or certified refurb from Apple and still save some money that way and get good performance.
@@kairefeare Yes, to a point, but if you are spending 1200 to read documents, web browse and make calls then jesus what are you doing!!!! i 100% agree. as dave said, if you can sacrifice not getting the latest and greatest, just go with the gigachad m1 air. i myself just purchased the base model m2 air, but was able to get it at around $1000 with educational discount, making it much more palatable. that being said, i also could have purchased the m1 air for around $800 with the same discount, which is a damn right steal.

I really don't understand Apple's pricing strategy. When the M1 first came out, the pricing was unreasonably reasonable. They all were priced to sell, especially the $700 Mac Mini and the Air. Now with the M2, the pricing is just reasonable. You do get a lot of screen, but little RAM and storage for the price.
@@bobweiram6321 I think that might have to do with boosting adoption. If the Air hadn't come at the price it did back then, people wouldn't have adopted Arm based laptops with such open arms (pun intended). Now that people know it's good, it makes business sense for them to charge more?
The best alternative to the M2 mba, is the M1 mba. You can easily get one in pristine condition in the second hand market for much much less. Got one with an 8gb 512gb config for $700 in PERFECT condition. No one can beat that.
I can't agree with you enough. Second hand M1 macbooks and mac minis are some of the best deals out there. If you don't want to deal with a sketchy used market, you can go for Apple refurbished too, which is slightly less of a good deal, but you get a guaranteed great product for a decent discount.

no actually the acer swift x is a pretty even competitor with the m1 air. its just too much under shadowed idk why. it costs $999, has a Ryzen 7 5800U, RTX 3050 (40W), 16GB LPDDR4X 4246MHz, 512GB SSD, a brilliant 1080p display (100%srgb, 80% adobe and p3), a premium feeling magnesium-alloy chassis, a very good keyboard, an average trackpad. its value for money factor is a behemoth in my opinion but sadly it isnt advertised so well by reviewers. it was launched in may 2021. I have it and have compared it to my friend's mba and to be honest, even its speakers arent too much behind. in loudness theyre on par if not louder than the m1 mba but the mba wins in sound quality and bass.
I'm using an m1pro MacBook 14' - an amazing product for work, especially during the blackouts in Ukraine, 8h of use in AE and Figma with many different background processes.
Got my new M2 MacBook Air 16GB/512GB a few days early this past Saturday. It's a beautiful machine with build quality that's superior to any Dell XPS laptops I've owned. Space Grey looks good. I wanted Midnight but the scratch and fingerprint issues chased me away. I don't record/edit video so it runs smoothly and cool with Office 2021 apps and streaming video. Feels strange using it after over a year with my M1 iPad Pro 12.9" and magic keyboard. I keep reaching for the Air's screen to touch an icon or scroll through a website. Had no idea how acclimated I became with the iPad's touch screen. Same with the iPad’s Face ID vs. Touch ID on the Air. Face ID easily wins that battle. If I made the decision today, I'd return the Air and stick with my iPad + magic keyboard setup. Gotta give it at least a week, though. Never thought I'd be so comfortable with a tablet. Based on my 3 days of use, Apple is gonna sell a ton of these new Airs.
I'm eyeing the z13 oled instead of M2 MBA. If Apple didn't raise M2 MBA's price, it will be the only choice for me. So yeah, I agree with your conclusion.

I have one. There's no screen like it. No going back from OLED. It's certainly fast enough for everything I want to do and the battery seems to last the whole day if I'm not gaming.
Great to see the competition. The M1 Air hit every mark except webcam. The rest of the laptop lineup the prices get uncompetitive quickly with the Apple huge margins on RAM and SSD. But with supply constraints, it might not matter.
Honestly the webcam is not that big of a deal. It’s still better quality than the XPS tiny sensor they had to fit in that bezel, and now you can clip your phone on for a 4K quality webcam.

I tested the newer 13.6” MBA in a store and I 100% prefer the prior wedge shaped Air design (the 2015 MBA is even thinner at the front than the later wedge shape and yet still has more ports than any new MBA). It’s easier to pickup and carry and it’s MUCH nicer to use, thanks to the low approach angle for your wrists that makes the machine far more comfortable. It’s classic change for the sake of change. Unjustified change. The wedge shape feels more comfortable and looks more advanced. No doubt Apple will return to the wedge shape one day. I believe MBP should also be wedge shaped, albeit a thicker relative wedge. And MBA needs more ports, not more USB-4, but SD Card and HDMI. There are many out there who love thin and light be still require the convenience of not needing dongles without needing great power, giant SSD or large RAM or 120 Hz display. The old MBA (2015/2017) was the best machine out there at the time because it had both wedge thinness and port practicality and a great keyboard and a not too big trackpad (I think trackpads are too big now).
excellent comparison and video. Under 10 minutes, covered multiple laptops, not overly "techie", enough information for a general user to start making decisions
I bought the HP Aero 13 with 2k display resolution last week, and I love it. The weight, the simplicity, the size, and the performance is more than enough for me as developer. The only downside is the battery life, not that it's short but I hope it can be longer.
got mine but with the base screen option recently, battery life is good with the 1200p screen. The weight alone made me choose this over the MacBook Air. Agree, it's more than enough for me as a software engineer.
Would u suggest aero for decent amount of gaming tho?? I'm confused which one to get but want something for office use and gaming which must be light weight and super fast with not much off fan running
@@joelwilson5024 i dont use aero for gaming, but if you really want to play games on it, it will get hot, depending on your games, resolution and preset gaming you would at least get 45 fps
I'm still using the M1 Macbook Air and it really does everything that I need and still does it flawlessly for many hours (Photo editing, video editing, excel stuff etc).
Anything above 8 hours of battery life is already excellent. In the end it's still an ultrabook and the purpose of it to be portable yet long lasting is already a good regardless of the products you choose. Just that Apple finally managed to optimised the new M chips for many x86 platforms in Mac OS and we get all performance, power and portability in a small yet compact chasis. And Windows having better looking laptops while also being powerful, portable and competitive battery life is a huge plus. In the end, consumers win in choices and you get a better device no matter the product you buy.
Think about the future. Batteries degrade. If the battery life is 8 hours which is average for now, it’s gonna be 5 hours in a few years. If it’s like 12+ hours now, it will be 8 in a few years and still adequate.
For me, the important thing is that in mixed use, Macs stay quiet, cool, and still have decent battery life. I tried G14 this year and they can be dang silent but they ramp up at the weirdest times. When they get going, they’re just as loud as Intel notebooks while not being quite as fast, and they burn through battery quick. Intels are just leaf blowers and have no usable silent mode, but they do give you excellent performance. For me, if you want the fastest, get Intel. If you want the best portable computer, get Apple. If you want a little bit of both, get AMD. Good choices all around.
@@mbvglider idk i have a ryzen 5800h laptop and the fans basically never go when its unplugged, they only start being heard if i play games (demanding ones) you have no fans in the mac, it doesn't just mean "better cuz no noise" it means you're losing a huge ton of performances due to overheating. with fans u can choose, u could just undervolt the machine and its all silent, but when you need fans you have them.
@@SToXC_. I was actually comparing to my MacBook Pro 14", which rarely gets loud, even during video/audio editing, and it has a fan. Even when the fan goes, it's not that loud. For me, the Ryzen was only quiet when doing nothing demanding; as soon as it did need to turn on, it felt no better than an Intel for me because it'd become a leaf blower and burn 10% battery in 15 minutes. Also, you act like "just undervolt the machine" as though it's a single setting, but that's really a matter of spending a lot of time with the computer and understanding exactly where you can do what and when and how. For instance, the G14 has a MUX switch but every time you use it, you have to restart the computer, which means that to go from a performance setup to a silent setup, you need to do a full restart. Meanwhile, my Alienware, the silent profile severely throttled my performance while the balanced profile got too loud way too quickly, so I had to experiment with a fan curve until I found something reasonable. With Windows machines, you're really at the mercy of your manufacturer and how much time you're willing to spend before you reach these reasonable points, whereas with Macs, they just have regular and low power, and regular is still quieter and more efficient than AMD/Intel at silent.
Ended up stretching and getting the 16" MP Pro due to lack of availability of the 14" (go figure), and it's been a fantastic purchase. Bulletproof. No complaints.

Yeah the biggest issue with the M2 Macbook Air is the price. Given the slower 256gb SSD (compared to the same capacity in the M1), by the time you spec it up to 512gb and 16gb of RAM, you might as well just get the 14inch MBP with much better performance and much better screen. The price for the M2 Air just makes it not a very attractive laptop, no matter how impressive the performance is.
@@zeus1117 I guess you can get so much out of the x86 architecture. Apple is the only one making high performance arm chips currently, and it looks like none of the other companies want to spend the massive r&d amount to make their own, unfortunately.
@@Steven-hq6df Apple can do it because it's an byproduct of the arm development for the iphone. Samsung could do it, but then it still has the problem of Windows x86 programs having to run under arm. Fantastic video. Cuts right to the chase and delivers some solid, actionable consumer advice. One thing which wasn't covered was what you should do if you occasionally have Windows use-cases (read: light gaming) in addition to doing all the stuff that ultrabooks are designed to do. Would you still go for the gigachad macbook air and "deal with it" when there are times that you just can't do what you want? Or would you pay for a Windows machine that's going to be slightly worse in most cases, but where you're not having to sweat weird software compatibility issues, etc. etc. For a class of hardware that's now solidly in the $1200-1300 ballpark just to get in the door (aside from the M1 and the HP) I feel like you shouldn't have to make that compromise. 🤷♂
Funny you featured the Aero 13. I picked one up myself with 5800U 16GB ram and the upgraded screen for 550 USD (was discounted). Honestly, for that price its amazing.

Nice video For the battery tests, do the windows laptops use a low power profile with throttling? I only just used a M2 machine and noticed that the default settings is full CPU power regardless of battery or power adapter; you have to change it over to low power mode on battery manually I noticed a significant difference in battery life between them when the machine was under medium use or more.
Yeah, by default most windows laptops will severely throttle the cpu and gpu when on mobile power. Maybe that’s different for these new ones, which I haven’t tried. At least MacOS has great battery life even in normal mode, and you can choose if to use low power mode.

On the Asus Zen book, that keypad should've been on the right of the trackpad. Its a brilliant idea to have a hidden num-pad for people who love working on excel sheets. But putting it on the trackpad makes it difficult to use, just in case you need to scroll pages as well with the trackpad.
For my use case the MacBook Air being fanless with great performance is it’s biggest plus point for basic day-to-day productivity. I wish a fanless Windows PC would provide similar performance. No dusty internals and regular maintenance required.
Ryzen 6800U is impressive, keeping in mind it's in a fairly simple cooled machine with just 1 fan, and using 7nm instead of the 5nm node process of the M1/M2. Similar in efficiency to the M2 if we compare Cinebench R23 scores and the power used. Ryzen 7000 series early next year with 4 or 5nm and new architecture generation (Zen 4) will be VERY impressive. And RDNA3 iGPU also using 4 or 5nm.
M series has 40% more transistors and is on a better node. Based on numbers vs 4700u/5700u/6800u I think it's pretty clear that apple's advantage was transistor and node count. Zen 4 will certainly close the gap, although not in single threaded.
Everyone on the RUclips have told that the price bump for M2 MacBook has been a major drawback but the reason explained here is just crisp and to the point. Great video 👍🏼
Completely agree with the pricing. It’s a bummer they didn’t even budge the m1 MBA pricing at all. Yes it’s good enough to still keep up with current times but they lost the huge edge they had over Windows laptops. I would’ve hoped for the m1 to be $8-900 with the m2 being $1100
I use them at work. they're awful. they all have super hot Intel chips. and Dell basically doesn't test them before they send them out so they all break and overheat. I've had to RMA like four out of the 15 that I've deployed at work. and I get constant complaints about the fan noise and how hot the chassis is. and they crash. The XPS along with the Microsoft surfaces that I have are like 25% of my tickets.
Great stuff as always, Dave. Did you consider the new Lenovo Yoga 9i 14" laptop? It's really stellar, including outstanding sound. Plus it's a touch machine with 2-in-1 capabilities that the Air doesn't offer. List price isn't cheap, but (unlike Apple) Lenovo machines go on sale all the time. Plus, the base SSD performs well! 🙂
Look at Just Josh’s review on that. Absolutely decimated by the MacBook Pro 14 (that actually has gone on sale to around $1800). Horrendous battery life and way worse thermals, it’s a joke for the $1930 RRP, no wonder they need to discount it for it to even sell.
$1930 is definitely overpriced for those features, lenovo yoga series has to be the most overrated of the 2 in 1's. The best lenovo yogas are the thinkpad variants or the lenovo yoga 2 pro and lenovo yoga 3 pro. Those ones actually competed HARD with the macbook air in its era because of its 3200 x 1800 display and having almost identical dimensions to the MBA. As well as processing power, etc for about the same price and having a touchscreen. Currently I would say Lenovo yoga 9i 14" would be overshadowed massively by the acer spin 5 SP514-51N that will give you a 2560 x 1600, I7 1260P, 16GB LPDDR5, 1TB SSD and included stylus pen that docks inside of the device.
This year ASUS has nailed it with introducing oled displays to all their laptop categories. It's a huge consideration guys. The quality difference between oled and lcd displays is substantial. I'd say apple has shot in it's foot with the m2 MacBook air pricing but we know people will buy apple no matter what. so whatever.
“Shot itself in the foot” lmao, more like made more people consider the base model 14in Pro than anything else if they spec it up, or the M1 Air at base level. Less about “people will buy Apple no matter what”, I’ll only agree to that statement the day we have Asus and HP laptops running macOS and Samsung and Xiaomi phones running iOS. The software is what sets them apart from literally every other brand.
You're exaggerating the difference. The OLED isn't a total win. Highly dependent on the panel. This one tops out at a little over 300 nits, which is worse than the others and something you'll notice in outside usage.
I'd rather not have an OLED on my laptop, burn in is still a thing for PC usage. I have a wonderful OLED panel as my TV but for desktop usage I wouldn't want it, would rather have 1440p as a minimum resolution for all of these laptops in the €1000 price category, it's 2022
In all fairness and serious, I think 13 inch Air is bonker for the performance but what the Zenbook S13 shows to me really blows me away for the performance and efficiency it can get even on x86 architecture. If the S13 can get IPS LCD option, the battery life will be even more comparable to MacBook Air or even Pro

8:05 You need to compare the real base models on an 'apples to apples' basis to account for the missing SSD module on the M2. The best way to do this is to compare the 512GB prices of both the M1 and M2. How much was the 512GB M1A (8GB RAM, 7-Core GPU) when it first came out?
I’ve always wondered how an AMD chipset and GPU would perform in an XPS 13 or even better a XPS13+ Chassis, it’s too bad DELL has been keeping in lockstep with Intel on their XPS line, I think the efficiency and price point of AMD are worth exploring over Intel, especially in the “Ultrabook” arena. With that said the Zenbook does look promising at least until the newest 13” ROG Flow 2-in-1 laptops start coming out. IMHO the 2-in-1 form factor is one of the main differentiators vs MacBooks, especially since the M1 chips came out.
i think if m2 air had launched at $999, windows laptops would be a lot cheaper this year
Absolutely, just like with the iPhone X $1000 phone trend
Windows 11 also boosted the Windows laptop sales so Apple’s pricing is just wrong. They might regret it and make it cheaper on other stores like Amazon.
12th gen intel also put intel back in the game although we need an cpu architecture update..

Lots of Ryzen U and H (without dgpu) laptops are coming this year. Please make a video like this in December. I'd really really appreciate it. 🙏

The M1 is still a generation or more ahead of any other non-Apple offering. So, as long as it remains super competitive they won't lower the price. Shoulda got in on it.

Not sure if future proofing is all that great honestly, given the usual use case for users who use it as a web browsing machine, and to read documents, take video calls and what not. They won't be utilizing much space, let alone the ram.
I love that you always approach your reviews from the "value for money" point of view.
The best alternative to the M2 mba, is the M1 mba. You can easily get one in pristine condition in the second hand market for much much less. Got one with an 8gb 512gb config for $700 in PERFECT condition. No one can beat that.

M1 Air is a great device! Personally I enjoy the wedge design more than the new one

Can I just say thanks for posting your videos in this wide aspect ratio
@@mbvglider idk i have a ryzen 5800h laptop and the fans basically never go when its unplugged, they only start being heard if i play games (demanding ones)
you have no fans in the mac, it doesn't just mean "better cuz no noise" it means you're losing a huge ton of performances due to overheating.
with fans u can choose, u could just undervolt the machine and its all silent, but when you need fans you have them.

Important to note is, that the asus zenbook s13 will probably also be heavily discounted like a few months after launch. I'm probably gonna be dumb and buy it before that though. It will support usb 4 in the future so that is kind of a game changer for amd devices
I wish I could work with him in his studio. His studio is just phenomenal.
Nice video
For the battery tests, do the windows laptops use a low power profile with throttling?
I only just used a M2 machine and noticed that the default settings is full CPU power regardless of battery or power adapter; you have to change it over to low power mode on battery manually
I noticed a significant difference in battery life between them when the machine was under medium use or more.
Yeah, by default most windows laptops will severely throttle the cpu and gpu when on mobile power. Maybe that’s different for these new ones, which I haven’t tried.
At least MacOS has great battery life even in normal mode, and you can choose if to use low power mode.
@@Ferrichrome yeah; but the setting is inconveniently hidden, and can’t just be toggled like on iOS devices.
But their default is full power all the time so long as they’re not on fire.
So it seems maybe an unfair fight that they win anyway?
@@iZian yes, macOS would do even better if you enabled low power mode. On my MacBook Pro it goes down to a low refresh rate and maybe does some other things but I can’t tell. The battery is good even without that though, I just run it on regular mode all the time
@@iZianwdym hidden, isn’t it in the battery tab on the menu bar?
@@liamsz unless the latest update has added a toggle there: no
The setting up until 3 weeks ago was only in the battery lane in preferences and can’t be toggled on demand or for a set time; it’s either off, or always on, or always on when battery.
I don’t use it but I know from experience that when I tried it that the battery was lasting longer, at the expense of frame rate in a game I was playing.
Great video Dave! I'll send this video to anyone who asks for a computer recommendation.
crazy how Ryzen 6th gen is so close to M2 in power and battery life .Amazing job Ryzen
And it's basically a GTX 1650 Max-Q level performance for gaming
@@dev1lm4n63 And you don't have to run MacOS (BIG BONUS!)
@@NeverDoubtMe23 true that OS just isnt for me
For me, it’s not about the benchmarks. All of my windows laptops get slow and laggy and warm after a few months. My MacBook stays fast
yes. agree to this. I own several laptop from Asus and eventhough with regular update and file cleaning, my laptop still always slow and yes super laggy. I ended up sold them.
Weird none of my windows laptops ever do that. Do you happen to download a lot of stuff from shady websites? People who say their Windows machines get laggy over time either have no idea on how to maintain their PC or fill it with junk software which run on boot time and eat up resources in the background.
@@ufukpolat3480 no I’m a software dev. And a pc should not get significantly slower just by installing regular software. Sure, when you download loads of Trojans it’s no wonder your pc slows down. But I was using it mainly for MS office and just simple tasks made it super hot. 11th gen i3, sure not the best, but come on. M1 air was double the price but like 4x the user experience
@@SandwichMitGurke I'm fairly impartial towards Mac or Windows but you're truly comparing apples and oranges here.
@@SandwichMitGurke well you picked a terrible CPU to boot on a cheap yet overpriced machine.... what did you expect?
mac users always compared a 2010 Avenger to a 2010 GTR.... entirely different brackets of products and yet somehow are surprised
What does mean "heavy use"? Photo editing? Video editing? Programming? You would be beautiful if you give me some examples
On the Asus Zen book, that keypad should've been on the right of the trackpad. Its a brilliant idea to have a hidden num-pad for people who love working on excel sheets. But putting it on the trackpad makes it difficult to use, just in case you need to scroll pages as well with the trackpad.
4 months later, Black Friday deals, the m1 MBA is 799 and m2 MBA is 1049, which pretty much blows any windows competition
That Zenbook looks killer. That iGPU in the Ryzen 6000 series is just incredible.
2022 back to school/college laptops next please😩 love the video and that Zenbook sheesh.
For my use case the MacBook Air being fanless with great performance is it’s biggest plus point for basic day-to-day productivity.
I wish a fanless Windows PC would provide similar performance. No dusty internals and regular maintenance required.
Great vid, would've liked a quick summary at the end though.
Costco has the air m1 for $850 now. Great deal.

u got older bro :/ i have been watching your videos for 4 years. my favorite device channel :) great video
I would’ve hoped for the m1 to be $8-900 with the m2 being $1100
Great video Dave! I think the hp envy 14 and the acer swift x would also definitely fit in here.
I'll stick with my MacBook Air M1 512 SSD 8GB Ram - 12 months old and doing fine, fine, fine.
Your videos are to the point and hood. Great job 👏
Dave, why did you stop talking about the XPS as enthusiastically as before? Just wondering since you were so much into it.
energy consumption and heat. intel chips in the xps chassis just run hotter than it should
Dell implements the worst Apple features
I use them at work. they're awful. they all have super hot Intel chips. and Dell basically doesn't test them before they send them out so they all break and overheat. I've had to RMA like four out of the 15 that I've deployed at work. and I get constant complaints about the fan noise and how hot the chassis is. and they crash. The XPS along with the Microsoft surfaces that I have are like 25% of my tickets.
Wow that XPS keyboard and frame looks gorgeous.
@@User-cb4jm I don't own the Yoga, so that's good info!
@@User-cb4jm jesus christ a $1930 lenovo yoga??, get that shit outta here lmao
Were all these performance tests done plugged in? Or unplugged as a portable device will often be used?
@@drchtct I never had burn-in on oled phones tho
watched a ton of your videos for a while. just subbed now!
In all fairness and serious, I think 13 inch Air is bonker for the performance but what the Zenbook S13 shows to me really blows me away for the performance and efficiency it can get even on x86 architecture. I think this year and even on near future AMD will be the king of Windows laptop and Desktop. If the S13 can get IPS LCD option, the battery life will be even more comparable to MacBook Air or even Pro
I love those comparisons, Dave, you're a genius 🙏
I really thought the M2 was much better thanks to the architecture. But x86 hasn't given up yet. Really impressive hardware, especially the zenbook
m2 air is slower then m1 air if you have just 10 tabs open.
@@roboticvenom1935 Why is that the case? first time I heard this
@@cmfrtblynmb02 That's because the new SSD apple put into the M2 air is significantly slower and lower end the the m1 air's SSD to cut costs. So when you have the 8gb ram model(that's very low for a high end laptop, apple is the most stingy on ram and charges a whopping $200 to add an extra 8gb's and you can't upgrade it yourself because it's soldered). With the 8gb ram model it often uses the SSD as added ram and because the m2's SSD is so much slower it slows down more then the m1 air when you have 10+ tabs and other apps open. It's terrible
@@roboticvenom1935 thanks for the answer. Makes sense
Are you Making a back to school laptop guide line? Those are pretty cool and very informative.
Macbook Air M2 should have been $999 and the M1 discounted to something like $849.
However you can still get a M1 MBA at a great discount from other re-sellers currently if you look around.
Thankyou❤…ur review helped me a lot!!
I still don't even have the M1 Air, lol. Too much money for me. Thanks for the heads up on the HP, it fits my budget much better, especially on sale 👍
I wouldnt recommend the hp, it has very weak speakers, the battery is really small (i was only getting 6 hours of battery life) which is barely enough for 1 work day
@@piuspenguin4593 There's always a catch, always. I can deal with the battery as I'm plugged in most of the day and by default I use headphones at work, so the speakers aren't as big an issue either. Nice to know that's the worst of it though, thanks!
@@dragon2knight ight good to know ur fine with it. One thing thats really nice about the pavilion is that its really lightweight and yet still feels very premium and sturdy

That’s the pattern for the Grand, single bar, dbl bar, triple bar then jackpot!
Dave I think u messed up the GFXBench graphs - you had m2 MBA at 48.3 for the first chart then 38.3 for the rest.
Interesting the AMD powered Zenbook is able to keep up with the M2 air
thought the same, either the zenbook is amazing or the macbook is overrated, probably both
I’ve had my eye on the zenbook forever! Just waiting for it to come out lol
Yeah I was also surprised. I wonder how well AMD chips will do against M2 and M1 on the same transistor node.
It's actually better I think. Comparable gpu , 10-15% better cpu, OLED screen and yet comparable battery , even on heavy usage not to mention it has much better sustained heavy usage and faster and more storage and ram for the price
@@vedaryan334 touchscreen too!
Unless your a video editor or something along those creative lines I don’t see the point in Macs. If you just going to use it for browsing and light document editing. At that point you might as well just get a Chromebook.
M1 MacBook Air is the first time I paid full price and bought at day 1 of release.. I knew I won’t be disappointed.. got 16 gb version.. gonna serve me forever
Do you think the m1 air is a good buy at this time? I just want an everyday laptop
Thunderbolt
XPS are shit
your videos are amazing Dave, thanks ! 🙂
