I got the base M2 Air and I have absolutely no regrets.
This is coming from a semi-professional photographer who uses Lightroom and does lots of batch edits and exporting to a hard drive.
I would say that I wish 16Gb RAM was standard on Macs these days, but from what I’m using it for I can’t complain.
M2 is blazing fast. New updated chassis, the M2 chip, bigger screen, more screen brightness and new keyboard makes it worth the extra £200 over the M1 version.
It’s light which makes it brilliant for portability and travelling. Very good to put it in your backpack when at the airport.
I was considering getting an M2 iPad Pro, but when I added up the costs to get a fully laptop-like experience on it (with at least 256Gb storage, Apple keyboard, case and Apple Pencil), it was actually much cheaper to get the MacBook Air instead, especially when MacOS is simply more versatile and has greater app support than the iPad.
Sometimes you need a computer to simply be a computer for raw functionality.

I know I could have been buying the 14" MacBook Pro for the same money, but I still bought the MacBook Air M2 with 16GB memory and 512 GB SSD because the less weight and better mobility are more important to me. And I don't regret it!

M2 with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD here. I agonized over the 14" Pro decision, but the heft and bulkiness of the Pro is just too much for me. My Air is my main personal machine, even outside of travel, and I never feel like it can't do any job I ask of it. I don't regret paying big money for the Air at all.

One of the last laptops I owned (almost 20 years ago) was a Sony Vaio. That thing was $2,000 but it was a nice machine. The Last laptop I owned was a cheap Dell that cost $499 and it was crap. So my internal benchmark is expect to pay $1,500-$2,000 for a nice laptop. The air fits right in that price range with the ram and storage upgrades and its obviously a very nice machine, with the added bonus of being very mobile. I consider a laptop to be a portable computer and not a desktop replacement. I’ve used an iPad as a portable computer since the iPad 2 came out and had a desktop to do the heavy lifting as my preferred setup for a long time now.
By comparison an iPad the same size 12.9”, with a keyboard and 500GB of storage will cost $1,748 compared to $1,699 for the Air with upgraded storage and Ram.
It’s a use case trade off. They run different OS, which has its trade offs, and one of them can ditch the keyboard outright and be a couch/bed computer when you want it to be.
If I was going to get another laptop I would spend the money and get the upgraded Air over the pro because it looks nicer and its a little smaller.

As a student who wanted something that would work seamlessly with the ipad i was using for notes this laptop is amazing. The native connectivity (to the point of being able to drag screen grabs form the computer right into my notes on the ipad) really helps get the tech out of the way of work. The all day battery means I can leave the charger at home with no worries, even for lectures and studying after. But from that student perspective this thing is so nice to be next too. No fan kicking up in class and the fairly quiet keyboard is so nice for library study time its made me glad they're getting more popular at school. like sure for presentations an hdmi port would be nice but since thats not a daily use case im ok with just having the small usb-c adapter in my bag. Like I agree this is great for travel or a commuter. But I feel like this laptop was built for the audience of the student on the go like the air's kind of were. Not super high intensity but long screen time tasks. and it really shines doing them.

I bought the base M2 a few months ago and so far, it's handled everything I've thrown at it. My only annoyance is having the headphone port away from the other ports, having cables out of both sides isn't as easy to tidy so brings down the aesthetics. But only an issue when I want to run my wired set for max sound quality and could easily be fixed running through a USB adapter or hub. And the midnight colour is my favourite they've ever released, fingerprints and all.

I upgraded from a four-year-old Dell XPS 15. I opted for the Air instead of the Pro because my intended use is as a travel laptop, a supplementary since my main machine is an iMac. So far it's performed pretty much as I expected, and I also find my shoulder isn't as sore because of the shed weight. (it's not just the laptop weight, it's the power cord as well.)

I took the road less traveled, I took my chance with an upgraded M2 Air with 10 core GPU, 16 Gigs of unified RAM along with 1 TB of storage. The M2 Air is pricey and is not supposed to be a powerful laptop either. But it is super petite, so light, so quiet, and looks absolutely stunning. With Apple’s 2nd iteration of their new silicone, the M2 Air is just as powerful enough to handle all sorts of tasks out there. The passive cooling -fanless design- was a deciding factor for me actually. ARM architecture is mature enough and has been with us for a very long time now, I believe with zero moving parts it's less likely to break down in the long run. I also play games and edit videos from time to time and I have never experienced a lag in performance or the overheating issue many people were apprehensive about. The M2 air is gracefully computing whatever task I throw at it. Perhaps Apple might have overcompensated the M2 Air with a larger and wider heat sink to make up for the fan. It's so compact and super portable I take it wherever I go. The battery life hitherto has been amazing. The keyboard could’ve been a little bit better though, I’m very satisfied.

I'm coming from a 2012 MacBook Pro and it's been a significant upgrade. Also speaks to the fact that I don't upgrade very often so the less moving parts and newer the processor the better in terms of reliability and receiving updates. That was also my main reason for upgrading the ram to future proof it. I can always add external SSD's for storage but you can't upgrade the ram later on down the road. I immediately said to myself that I need this. Finally I bought the 10 core, 512 GB SSD, 16GB MacBook Air M2 in July and since then there is no looking back. Its my go to Laptop for all needs. Work, leisure everything. It took me 20 minutes to transition from Windows 10 to Mac OS Ventura. I simply love it. The body has a premium look and feel and the battery backup is amazing. I am loving it.

I got the base M2 MacBook Air with a student discount ($1099). I also recently got a 10 core/1tb M1 Pro MBP. While I would have enjoyed a higher spec version MBA, I knew I would be using my air mainly for school and web browsing, so it still serves me really well. I gravitate towards my air way more than my MBP, and I am enthusiastically waiting for apple to release a 15" MBA. I also got the midnight color, and people blow the fingerprint thing way out of proportion. All you have to do is wipe it off periodically, and I really love this color and everything about this computer for what I use it for.
With that being said, I do think that Apple still should have at least put two SSD drives considering the price of this laptop. Realistically we should be 16gb at ram also going in to 2023, and should not have a major read/write ssd speed difference between storage models. Also I do think Apple could have done a slightly better job with cooling, but their engineers must know what temps the m2 chip can handle. But all in all for what I use it for, I'm really happy with it, and can't recommend it enough if you have a relatively simple use case.

I was originally looking at a 14" M1 MBP, but when I saw the thumbnail for this video, and it got my interest. However, you are correct, and the 14" MBP will be the new office computer; pricing, and ability to use 2-monitors natively are the decision points.

I currently have a £1,000 HP laptop but am considering returning it as the battery is so poor (3-4 hours with very basic use) and it has a touch screen I don't use. Thinking about a M2 Air 16GB/512GB or a (Apple) refurbished 14" MBP with the M1 Pro. Both go for 1700€ rn. M1 Pro has 70% more performance than the Base M1 and the Base M2 has 30% more performance than the Base M1. Lighter size and weight are nice, but the biggest breaking point for me is only being able to use one external display. I wanted the midnight m2 sooo much, but only one output is a no-go for me (who wants to use it on their desktop with 2 monitors, instead of a windows PC). I'm still considering my choices, just as much as the just announced M2 Pro MBP, but the M1 Pro MBP is 1890€ new, so 500€ less than the new M2 Pro MBP which goes for 2399€... and the refurbished, which from Apple comes with the same guarantee and seems to be in brand new condition, costs another 200€ less, so 1700€... 700€ price difference between the refurbished and the brand new M2 MBP, for just 20% more CPU performance over the M1 Pro.. It's hard to justiy. I think the 2021 M1 Pro MBP is the best choice for me honestly.

24GB RAM is perfect for me, lighter weight perfect for me as a student and soon to be lawyer, lower price point perfect for my tight budget... but it all came down to have extra ports and ProMotion. I know I'm spoiled for 'needing' ProMotion but the screen is what I'll be looking at ALL THE TIME and having that smoothness even just for scrolling PDFs just makes it so much more pleasurable to use, especially when my 14 Pro Max has ProMotion too. 16GB RAM wasn't enough but 32GB was such an overkill. If only the Air had at least 90Hz, because at the end of the day, the only real reason I went with M1Pro 14" was down to ProMotion

l've come around to the M2 Air. Picked one up (in the finger-print color, um, "Midnight") for $599 at Best Buy after trading in my old MacBook Pro. Since my files are stored on Dropbox the 256gb storage limit wasn't an issue. I was concerned with just 8gb of memory in 2022 but that also hasn't been an issue, even running Windows 11 (for ARM) via Parallels. The most I've stressed the little laptop was playing around with ArcGIS (via Parallels) and a few large datasets but then again that's probably not as bad as running three benchmarks while playing Call of Duty.

I've only felt the throttle a few times but generally it handles multiples functions without any hitches and I ended up getting a hub to handle the smaller amount of ports as well as an external monitor. After downloading, I hooked up two and even up to three monitors at a time with my MBA using the display link driver.
