    It must be an incredible feeling to work in a car standing up, I worked for several years in a really inclined terrain which is gravel and top of the gravel 3/8 plywood and on top, the sienna, and bellow the Sienna, me with my balls in my neck, now I have an inclined cement pad and I'm happier than a Hydrogen electron, good luck man Aloha A'ina

      @brainsaladsurgery4594 Expensive rent to have a lift but it does beat being on my back with my back issues in my home garage, as I did for 10 years to aquire my little shop. So, yea, its nice, thanks.

    W9ndering if rack & pinion issue or some other suspension issue. Ive replace the struts and control arm. However, when I turn right there is a moaning sound under the front druver side area. Drives smooth, no shaking, steering wheel doesnt vibrate. I do need to get wheels aligned since i just replaced struts. Any recommendations?

    I live here in Aurora, Colorado and appreciate the video and thanks for the camera work too. I have 2006 Sienna and bought the new rack. I have three questions:
    1. At 7:40 where you say loosening all of them bolts doesn't help much. Do you think it would have come out without doing all that?
    2. At 9:00 Did you need any special tools to remove the line nuts? Stubby wrench?
    3. At 15:23 and this is important. Besides tying the steering wheel in center position and counting the turns of the tie rod ends, did you center the rack and pinion rack before you slid it in and put the steering shaft back on?
    I've seen video's of it getting turned all the way one way, put a mark, then turn it all the way the other way and put a mark and then move it to the center of the marks. Thank again.
    Oh, I forgot to ask.... Are there any codes or lights that have to be reset after doing this on this year Sienna?

      1) I would say yes, it did help giving a little extra room.
      2) Pretty sure it was a normal wrench. Thats what I usually end up using with racks anyway. You do need to be careful of stripping the nuts.
      3) I measure the new rack compared to the old. Most of the time they come precentered however not always. Yes, its a good practice to check and make adjustments as needed.
      4) No, nothing needed to be reset.

      @kekq3525 its doable. I worked out of my home garage for 10 years. Its definately much harder of a job and would take a lot longer.

      Did my 2008 in my driveway last fall. Many hours, much cussing, almost took up smoking again, but very satisfying. Best advice from my mechanic when I told him I was going to try it, "if you ever start feeling angry, walk away and cool down."

    Seems to involve a lot of grunting. :) Thanks for the great video. Shop says I need new rack & pinion for our 2005 Sienna and this gives me an idea of what they're doing. Kinda expensive but obviously labor intensive.

    Great video. With the rack out the way, does it give you access to service any other parts that would be borderline impossible if the rack was in place?

      Sway bar busings, and if I remember right, there might be a mount back there. Its been a bit since I did this job. Any sensors on the backside of the engine and maybe bank 1 cat would be more accessable. Youd have to look around and see.

      Would have been better to name sizes of all bolts , time to do etc... just saying but good vid. Thought would be easier than said

    Since worked on toyota sienna 06 gotta question I have a shake at higher speeds it'll stop sometimes but come back but it's consistent changed axel inner outter tie rods and rims and ball joints have wheel balance and alignment it's still there any idea? It's front passenger side. When I jack up front put in gear hit accelerator only that wheel shakes I swapped to driver side did same did all the work few weeks ago besides rim just changed it's still there what can it be?

      @prtbone78 well, that pretty much leaves the rack and pinion, wheel bearing or lower control arm bushings as possibilities.

      @MegaMilesBen damn lol thays reason watched this vid too haha wheel bearing is good and control arms as well the rack not sure how to check but why would it be the rack and it's only passenger side I took the wheel off moved to driver side it stopped so it was isolated to passenger side when take wheel from passenger side shaking side move to driver side it stops it's wierd so figured was rim I'm so mad it's frustrating me gonna save a few bucks take to mechanic amd see if they can figure it out I don't wanna be a parts changer thanks for your reply any way to test rack? Whe replaced inner tie rod there was small leak in boot nothing crazy also I don't have power steering fluid leak

      @MegaMilesBen bushings have small cracks was thinking of replacing bushings think ill try that asap but if it's only one side and problem moves idk it's like chasing a misfire if swap coil and it moves that's the issue but thanks for the help appreciate you

      @MegaMilesBen wait I swapped from passenger to driver side it didn't shake only shakes on passenger side in confused forgot what I did but ill figure it out I hope had it for 5 yrs now that way but finally trying to fix it ... had new tires put on amd alignment and balanced when got it did it then with new tires balance etc.. still does it so cant be tires but think it time to save and get new car ty sir stay safe have a wonderful day

      @prtbone78 I did have some struggles with this one. Thats one thing I do leave in my videos so people can see some of the struggles they may run into. Ive noticed with a lot of others peoples videos, they cut those struggles out making it look easier than it is.

      I dont answer these types of questions on youtube. Theres many different factors into pricing. Where youre located, part prices, your locations labor prices and so forth.
      Im not your typical shop. My labor is low and my clients provide their own parts.

    I can't get the steering shaft to slide all the way down. Any suggestions?

      It taking it off, you can pry it apart with a pry bar.
      If putting it on, theres a slot in it you can use to widen it slightly with a scredriver or chisel. Another option is to lighty tap it with a pry bar and hammer (may need to be done from above).

      @@MegaMilesBen So let me ask you this.... I can get it down to the bottom of the ridges on the post, is that as far as it is supposed to go? That leaves about an inch of smooth post exposed. From the video, when you remove it it looks like it's all the way down to the rubber.

      @@paulgeorgia5497 Youre asking me about a job I did 2 months ago and have done many many more jobs since. The only way the bolt will line up and screw in is if the shaft and rack are lined up. The rack has a notch for the bolt. If its not lined up, it wont go in.

      I dont remember on this one. I can do most racks within 2-3 hours depending on the car.

      @@MegaMilesBen Wow that is quick - up on the lift makes it easier. I did my 1995 Honda Accord (on the ground) and thought - I prefer to change the transmission than the steering rack - that is probably the most difficult that I have ever done. Hose nuts were impossible to remove. Totally hated it .. I used a caliper to measure distance from end of tie rod to the lock nut to keep alignment. I just broke the jam nut and outer tie rod free - removed outer tie rod - then put caliper from end of tie rod to the lock nut - set my new one there and done. works pretty precise ..
      Looking at how much you had to do and to remove and loosen just to get this one out .. not sure if it is really something I want to look forward to doing myself as I do not have a lift - it will probably be a pain in my mechanical prowess pride. Great video though.. Thanks ..

      Every job varies. It only takes one little thing to put you in a world of hurt and add hours to the job. I also have over 30 years experience in the field, that helps a little as well.
      Ive done rack jobs in my garage on jackstands. A lift does give some advantage, no doubt.
      I hear from many how its so much easier on a lift. Let me tell you something most dont know...
      I worked out of my home garage for 10 years and did everything on my back. When the city shut me down, I went mobile, dealing with all the heat and shoveling out cars from snow just to do their brakes. I promised myself Id never do mobile again. Ive had my shop for 3 years now.
      As you can see, I totally understand the struggles of doing some jobs in the driveway, garage or street. Ive had to do them too. It is possible but some jobs are a much bigger struggle and can turn into weekend jobs instead of a few hours.
      This job is doable in your garage on your back but dont expect it to take a couple-few hours. Youre definately going to have struggles.
