Hi Frank, thanks for taking your time to answer all the questions and help old and new fanciers to improve their game. Can’t wait for the middle and long distance mix for feeding.
Frank is one of the reason why I became a champion first time entry in OLR and compete with big guys with just less birds. His articles helped me from the start. I won over $ 21k in OLR in just 2 years. 17k in 2021 and and 4K in 2022. Hoping to win again this 2023 🙏
Thank you so much for the nice words but I am sure you do what is needed with excellent pigeons. Congratulations on your success. Keep me posted on 2023.
I kept this in my Watch later list, finally got the weekend to enjoy it. It was as expected, excellent content. Thank you, Frank. By the way, I think we could also skip the paramyxo vaccine but I am afraid to try it (yet). I skip vaccinating 1-2 birds yearly, sometimes youngsters, and I don't see a difference. I also don't vaccinate my 10+ years old birds yearly although I do it every other year or so. I had cases in the stock loft where before weaning, one youngster showed paramyxo nervous signs while the nest brother was fine (from vaccinated parents). I also had a bad case of PMV in the youngsters of 2015 (bad vaccine maybe)... some where really bad, some didn't make it, and some where standing like rocks, looking totally immune to it. Look at the feral pigeons also. There is a colony here I've been studying for years, I haven't seen a massive drop in numbers yet and the vitality some of them display is incredible although I am sure their diet is very poor, I don't really know how they manage all this.
I am frightened for PMV. I feel you do not need to vaccinate the old pigeons anymore if they were vaccinated many times in their lives. I have so many birds come through my hands with the auction business. I vaccinate all the babies at weaning. Years ago I had some birds at my barn come to me for export and they had PMV. My personal pigeons are ten minutes from my barn. At my lofts, I had ten late breds that I did not vaccinate for PMV. All of them came down with PMV and I must have brought the virus on my clothes. It was crazy. I think with years of vaccinating the birds are more immune but still best to vaccinate babies each year.
Thank you again!! You answered questions I have had for months! And I learned so much ! I call this sport the Secret Society of pigeon raceing because there’s really not a lot of info out there ! Thank you again !
I am so happy that I can help. I help my local competitors get better which will make me better and make my pigeons better. I like to see fanciers have success which is great for the sport.
Hello Chris, Thank you for this. I feel there is so much confusion and as you can see I keep it simple and want to have major success with limited time. It can be done.
Love your videos and your authenticity Frank, if you taught a pigeon racing seminar i’d most definitely be enrolled. Appreciate you pouring back and hope to be able to shake your hand someday 🙏🏻
Hi Frank. With the young birds racing do you still use the pick pot measurement like the old birds for example 1 pick pot per 10 birds or do you just feed the youngsters when racing until they leave a little barley. Thanks Rod
not sure of the time difference, however ask my question. Based on your pictures of depurative mix you use / heavy mix ,, i tried to work out the protein mix of 11% for depurative & your heavey mix around 17% . So am i on the mark with 80 dep+ 20 %heavy mix. We don't have the variety of grains that I seen in European mixers.
Late breds are fine but you must train and educate them or it will be hard for them to be good as yearlings. If you only train them some and do not mix them as young it will be 2 years before you will have results. They will get great results as two year olds if you give them good training and mixing as yearlings.
Hey Bravin, I am always looking for ideas for videos. I try to think of videos that will have much interest. You are right that videos on the less glamorous part of the sport are important also.
What about not having a big loft to separate ybs from obs flying team. How do you feed/water when weaned youngsters are introduced in the ob section and its race season. Thanks
Hi Tenyou, That is a difficult situation. You need to feed the babies. Best system would be to keep the feed in front of them at all times. The old birds will not eat too excessively with unlimited feed. You then need to loft fly the old birds daily and if there are no hawk problems even open trap for exercise. Road train a few days a week also. They can be successful like this but will need more exercise than feeding like me.
Hi Peter, There are plenty of great pigeons around and they are reasonably priced. Most fanciers chase the highly promoted names and strains. Some of my best are the Kaasboer and De Rauw Sablon pigeons. I have several families that work well crossed together. If I felt there were better pigeons out there I would have them. I still always try new birds and see what works.
Hi Adrian, Depends if the birds are sitting all week due to rain or something I will feed pure barley but most of the time they are on a mix of 80% barley. Email me and I can send you a feeding program. Frank@McLaughlinLofts.com
Hello Max, Those were some super pigeons. The Dark Hen laid two eggs again this year but they were not fertile. I got two last year and she was 14 years old.
Check these videos out. See if they help and let me know what I should do in a video. ruclips.net/video/DLAbMN5z0no/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Jm2DyiOH96M/видео.html
I keep a feeder full of a grain mix in front of the breeders at all times. They mainly eat this. I also have a feeder full of chicken pellets but they do not eat many pellets. It is not great to raise the babies on just pellets. Their insides are stronger digesting grain.
Frank, what is your best advice to starting racing pigeons again? I used to race as a kid and now I want to get back into them again; would you buy a couple good pairs of breeders or start with a bunch of youngsters and breed from what races well?
I do like to breed my own pigeons and if the babies race great you have the parents. My suggestion would be to buy late breds. They are the best price and you can get from the best pigeons. Maybe buy some late breds off someone's race team at end of the season. These babies are usually very good.
I do not flock treat the birds and use VBG Avian Solution the Oregano product sold by Jedds. I use this often when they are young. Should a baby get a one eye cold or respiratory problem I will inject it with LA 200. I buy this at Tractor Supply. I give directions on my website under Secrets. 0.4 ml behind the neck one time will cure the pigeon. Just a small dose.
If you loft fly you can just feed more of the barley mix. If my birds have a tough toss during the week and fly for a couple hours or more I may give them the rich feeds in some cases depending on their body weight.
Hi can i ask u what is a good size, good weight, or standart weight or size for a long distance birds and for youngster bird say it about 8 month. Cause we here start race for young bird. Can u tell us how many weight for 1 young birds say 8 month old? ... Thanks a lot sir
The size of the pigeons vary just like people. Some are great in all sizes but medium size if best. If they are conditioned, have super feather quality and are light and buoyant they should perform.
Barley's indeed a good feeds to reach a light body weight of pigeons, but i dont think it sustained a long distance race, better mix it with good small seeds like saf flower or peanut maybe
Looks like you may have gone too long between feedings. If the babies run out of feed in their system while they are growing you will see this in the flights. Put the lights on 24 hours a day and make sure the pigeons have feed in front of them at all times. One missed feeding will cause marks. The minerals are also very important. If it gets dark early and say 12 hours before it gets light the babies have gone too long without feed.
Man, this is a fantastic way to learn. Keep up the good way to share these well kept information on all your subjects.
Glad you enjoy it!
Hi Frank, thanks for taking your time to answer all the questions and help old and new fanciers to improve their game. Can’t wait for the middle and long distance mix for feeding.
So happy you enjoyed and I will have the next video on feeding out soon.
Frank l could listen to what you got to say all day brilliant😊😊😊

What kind of bloodline you use
Thank you so much for the nice words but I am sure you do what is needed with excellent pigeons. Congratulations on your success. Keep me posted on 2023.
Thanks. You teach good information.

You had me cracking up! at u saying they're not geese flying north!! 🤣

Hello Chris, Thank you for this. I feel there is so much confusion and as you can see I keep it simple and want to have major success with limited time. It can be done.
For me it’s always awesome, a lot of knowledge and techniques I appreciate it and I truly like that you mentioned simpler system is better.
Glad it was helpful!
Another great video. Thanks again for all the advice and going against the grain.
So happy you liked it. I am having fun and will not say what the fanciers have been repeating forever.
Love your videos and your authenticity Frank, if you taught a pigeon racing seminar i’d most definitely be enrolled. Appreciate you pouring back and hope to be able to shake your hand someday 🙏🏻
Hi Max, You are too nice but maybe I will make some videos on some of the famous pigeons I got to handle and try babies from.
Really enjoyed the live video Frank!! You’re like Mick Jagger for racing homers!!!
Hi Lou, That is a great compliment. Thank you!
I appreciate your videos thank you Frank . Your friend in sport Barney Johnston from Greenbay Wis
I am happy you like them. I am having fun and will keep trying to improve.
Really enjoyed Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. I am having fun.

Yes
Hi Frank after you fed your birds do you leave a bit of barley in the feeder for the hungry birds to feed on
Email me and I will send you my system. It will help and you cannot make a mistake. Frank@McLaughlinLofts.com
Since we can not get Versele-laga and candy treats from Jedds here in Hawaii … would Winners Cup mixes be a suitable replacements … 😮
Winners Cup will be great. I have won on all types of feed companies feed. I have only used Versele Laga for a few years.
Hi frank, where do you get your pmv/rota vaccine? Thank you
I buy from Global Pigeon Supply because they deliver with my feed deliveries.

Looks like you are right on with that mix! Email me and I will send you my system. Frank@McLaughlinLofts.com
Pretty clear
If you use the wood pellets on the floor of a loft, how often do you have to clean it out and add new pellets? Thanks
I do not clean them out very often. Maybe every six weeks or so. They do break down but the floor is bone dry.
Frank has boosted barley sales world wide....😅
Barley is tough to find now!
Hi I'm from England, what's your thoughts on late breds and when would you race them

Thanks for your replay, I was on your site , the albrect and Fabry pigeons are amazing !!! They still do the job ?
So on Sunday Monday Wednesday and Friday what do you feed pure barley or barley mix cheers Adrian

I hope you make a video on your Maurice Casaert pigeons, i.e. The Dark Hen, Belle Deseyn, Limoges 420, etc.
Hello Max, Those were some super pigeons. The Dark Hen laid two eggs again this year but they were not fertile. I got two last year and she was 14 years old.
Can you please speak more about breeding selection of breeders x genetics x feeding of breeders etc etc etc .

Good day Frank, where can I get the Yellow Drops to buy in the US? Thanks
Siegel and Sons sells the Herbots Yellow Drops but most supply houses should sell them. They are all the same ingredient.
Oregano, oil or powder? Recommended brand? Thanks
This is what I use. The 32 ounce is the much better deal. Great stuff. jedds.com/products/vbg-avian-solution-van-beek-global-oregano-concentrate
Hello
Did you feed pallets to breed pigeon
I keep a feeder full of a grain mix in front of the breeders at all times. They mainly eat this. I also have a feeder full of chicken pellets but they do not eat many pellets. It is not great to raise the babies on just pellets. Their insides are stronger digesting grain.

Where or how can I get a copy of your feeding? I don’t have a lot of free time but I love the sport.
Email me Frank@McLaughlinLofts.com I will send to you.
Hey frank ... When the birds come back from racing do you have them rest in the dark for two or three days?
I do not put the birds in the dark. They are in normal lighting in the loft. They rest by staying in the loft and not going outside to fly.
Hey frank what is your technique on respiratory problems? Esp on young birds newly wean, Do you use antibiotics or herbal medicine? Thank you
I do not flock treat the birds and use VBG Avian Solution the Oregano product sold by Jedds. I use this often when they are young. Should a baby get a one eye cold or respiratory problem I will inject it with LA 200. I buy this at Tractor Supply. I give directions on my website under Secrets. 0.4 ml behind the neck one time will cure the pigeon. Just a small dose.
Thank you
Hey frank if i loft fly in the training season would you recommend to give them a heavy feeding once during the week? Meaning off the barley diet
If you loft fly you can just feed more of the barley mix. If my birds have a tough toss during the week and fly for a couple hours or more I may give them the rich feeds in some cases depending on their body weight.
Hi Frank the m Edward from South Africa do you think ur system will work for me
Yes, my system is working super all over the years.
Sir I just want to know how much feed is given to 10 birds on a one day eat feeding of barley. Thank you so much
I will measure this old birds. I feed very instinctively and do not measure. Email me and I will send you my feeding system. Frank@McLaughlinLofts.com
👍
What makes that happen?
What is the question? I hope I can help
Do you think a fatty meal after a long race plays a role for homing incentive?
They race for the love of home but it is nice they know a good meal is waiting after a long race.
Barley's indeed a good feeds to reach a light body weight of pigeons, but i dont think it sustained a long distance race, better mix it with good small seeds like saf flower or peanut maybe
You do need to add fat seeds for long distance. Just need to provide the energy without the pigeons getting heavy
Good morning Mr Mclaughlin boxing this evening at 7pm do I need to put any tonic in the water or just pure water before boxing.
Hi Kevin, Always plain fresh water day of shipping. They need to drink and anything added to the water will reduce how much they drink. Good luck!
Damn i missed it again lol
At least you can watch it anytime and next time hopefully you can attend live.
Frank why do some of my youngbirds from around few weeks born have mark across the feathers do i need more protein ?
Looks like you may have gone too long between feedings. If the babies run out of feed in their system while they are growing you will see this in the flights. Put the lights on 24 hours a day and make sure the pigeons have feed in front of them at all times. One missed feeding will cause marks. The minerals are also very important. If it gets dark early and say 12 hours before it gets light the babies have gone too long without feed.
