    I was there for the live stream but my question was too long didn't go thru and I had to leave early. I rewatched the whole video today. I'll wait for the next one in a few weeks bc I have a few more questions come to mind that I wrote down. By the way, I flew your barley system last year and had better success. I think you're doing a great service to the sport. Thank you for giving back. Look forward to more of these.

      This is very nice of you. I am lucky that I can compete and do well with very limited time. Anyone can have success if they spend all day every day worrying about the race team. I use methods that will help the busy pigeon fancier succeed. I look forward to the next live stream and your questions. Break them into small parts. I will keep going until I answer all questions.

    Hi Frank. How long do you leave the Barley in front of the Birds when they are resting before you remove the food? ALSO do you leave the Grits in front of the birds the day before basketing and on the day of Shipping? Cheers

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  6 месяцев назад +1

      If you feed until they leave a handful of barley you can leave this in front of the pigeons. They will finish in the next hour or so. There should never be more than a light sprinkling of barley in the feeder when start going to water. I never add fresh grits and minerals after Tuesday during the race season. I never pull or remove grits and minerals. They have free choice even on shipping day. If they need the minerals they will eat what they need.

      That would be mistake. You should use a 14 to 16% protein grain mix. Many types of breeder mixes are good but the minerals and grits are more important than the grain you use as long as the pigeons have plenty of feed. The barley mix is great for racing.

The great pigeons keep a nice perfect body weight without too much feed. I will try to show my birds this race season eating and how much I give them. It is maybe less than many give. If you are worrying about how much to give add a 1/2 tablespoon of rabbit pellets to their mix each day and when they leave the pellets they had enough.

      Great question but the body weight and pigeons that stay light and buoyant is genetics. Some pigeons have a more corky feel and great feather and just do not get fat and heavy. Those are the pigeons to select for breeding. Makes racing much easier.

    When do you start giving youngsters Barley

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад

      I start adding Barley at maybe 30% when I want the babies to start flying around the lofts. Not sooner than two months old. I go to the racing feed two weeks before the start of the race season.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад

      You must use in the husk barley. I link Baden and Versela Laga barley but most grain companies probably have a nice barley available.

      Most likely your pigeons are too fat. Feed mostly barley all week and give some fat seeds the day of shipping.

    So feed the yb team 60% black label and 40% barley 6 days a week and 100% black label mix the day of return from race ???

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад +1

      That is a good mix if you are training and working the pigeons harder than I do. I suggest 60% barley and 40% black label once a day six days a week for races under 350 miles and you will see better body weight in the pigeons. They should clean up all the feed at the feeding. On days you are not exercising or training the birds during rest give 80% barley. Watch what happens with your results.

    what best bloodline for long distance

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад

      That is difficult to say. Finding great long distance pigeons is tough. I need my birds to fly 500 and 600 miles on the day so they need to have endurance and still have some speed. Marathon birds are usually too slow for me.

    Can a young bird beat a young bird on the dark systems

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  5 месяцев назад

      The young not on the dark are very competitive in the second half of the race season once they have finished the body molt. I can beat the dark birds but not in August when the season starts. The end is where the best races are anyway.

    Do you feed your pigeon peanuts

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад

      I do not like peanuts. The main reason is most fancier give too many too often. The pigeons love peanuts and the pigeons train the fancier to give them many. There are other small fat seeds that are easier to control to give birds energy for long races. I would suggest only using a few peanuts on the pad when the birds home from a race or training. They learn to land right on the pad and compete for the five or six peanuts available. Keep peanuts in the cool and in the fridge.

    Do you believe Jansen Brothers birds were all inbreeding and they were dominating in the short distance races in Belgium for decades generation after generation when these brothers were actively racing their birds?
    People are now still going after the pure Jasen brothers genetic birds now a day. This assumption challenge the inbreeding vs crossing.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Год назад

      That is a good question. The Janssen Brothers had much success and most likely had some great genetics and these pigeons won short distance. Most crossed their pigeons and had more success. There was much secrecy at the Janssen Brothers loft and only wrote the parents band numbers on the ring cards. Rumor has it their best pigeons came through the Fabry bird they brought in. We will never know for sure what they did. After they became famous the did not race for many years and just sold. Many were only looking for the ring for marketing purposes
