I have had some super pigeons with Frills that went on to be great breeders and racers. I do not worry or give this any thought. It is just a genetic thing that is recessive. I would not use it to select or worry if you have it. Should the frilled bird perform breed from it. I do not see many frills anymore and not sure why.

I have never weighed the pigeons because they are different sizes and I am working with a team. It would be easier if I only had a couple on the team. I use how they feel in my hand. They should be lighter than you think for racing and flying at high speeds.

I do not pair the birds before racing. I feel it may be beneficial to do this and the hens are less likely to mate to each other if they had a baby right before the season starts. I keep it very simple and just go right into racing.

There are many many great feeds. Your most important feed is a high quality barley in the husk. Any 14 to 16% breeder mix to use with the barley will be great. There are also excellent depurative mixes you can feed for racing if you do not want to mix your own feed.

The combine feeds a 15% protein feed of mixed grains on the truck. Nothing special and I hope my birds do not eat much or maybe pick out some fat seeds.

I buy the barley from Global Pigeon Supply but many grain dealers that sell pigeon feeds can get this.

Pigeons get stressed in a new enviroment and if they are acting excellent do not worry about it. You can use the antibiotic but I would use 14 days straight of Nubiotic the Oregano cinnimon product. If you have a sick bird the LA 200 at 0 .4 ml clears them of respiratory usually. The 20% oxytetracycline at 0.1ml might do it also.

That is rough trying to find good barley. You can replace the barley with Paddy rice in the husk.

@@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons No Paddy rice in my end of the world. Wyoming is hard to find good feed. Right now Im feeding alot of birds. Close to 100. I'm sifting the dirty barley trying to clean it up the best I can. Thanks for the advice.

It is a great sport and you should consider keeping a few racing pigeons.

You can settle a yearling like this but if the bird was not trained as a young bird it will not have any chance to be a good racer. Of course it is possible but the odds are really against the pigeon if it had no education as a young bird.

This mix is fine if the birds are finished with the molt. Just make sure you have plenty of minerals.

Do you race? You can race on Wild Bird seed which will keep the body weight correct.

I have seen this and I am not really sure what causes the blood boils. They tend to correct themselves. Has to be some type of minor infection or injury that leads to the body producing a blood boil.

I have not bought in a while but will look into this. Hopefully the product is as potent and strong as ever and things are the same going forward.

The 80% barley mix is better for sprint racing. You can use the Versele Laga Depure exclusively for races out to 300 miles.

I have had many birds go on to be champion as old birds. Some pigeons take longer to figure this out. I have also had great young birds be my best old birds. Testing and trying is the only way.

What are you feeding them. Give 50% barley and feed once a day until they leave some barley. They will fly like crazy.

@ I feed them demoins premium flyer mix with lots of whole corn safflower peas and some wheat and milo I believe.

@ near my loft they will only fly for 5-10 mins yet they make it back regularly from 20-30 miles tosses once in a while from 70 mile tosses. I’m just a hobby flyer but still expect more from my birds than 5-10mins then they land on a electrical transformer I think they are afraid of the hawk but they do this even in summer they never route away from the loft just a few spins then land and stand on the pole cable for hours the neighbor below the cable even complained already.

Yes, I feed once a day all they want when they are molting. Just give plenty of feed at the one feeding. Keep your work load down.

It is a good product just too expensive for me. A bottle of Nubiotic will last forever.

How about if short distance but the bird is need tooad and sheep on Thursday sleep in the truck for 2 nights and release on Saturday morning. Is the feeding the same?

Feed the barley mix up to and on day of shipping and let them eat on the truck for two days.

Two corn to one pellet is my off season mix. I do not feed 2 to 1 during racing or breeding.

Late breds are fine but you must train and educate them or it will be hard for them to be good as yearlings. If you only train them some and do not mix them as young it will be 2 years before you will have results. They will get great results as two year olds if you give them good training and mixing as yearlings.

Wow, this is terrible. Where do you live? You must work on building a good immune system. If you treat the birds constantly for canker they will never build a natural immunity. Focus on the birds that do not get sick if possible.

Winter time and off season I feed Two whole corn to One chicken Pellet. I buy at Tractor Supply. Cheap and great mix.
