    Flew pigeons successfully for 40 years and only live 1.1/2 hours drive from Blackpool…Yet I never went once.There’s better pigeons in the area I flew than the dross that gets served up at Blackpool.Blackpool is the seaside town thst they forgot to close down (horrible place I wouldn’t even take the mother in law to)

    Obviously more money than sense, what i find strange is every top priced pigeon suddenly becomes a champion breeder. We all know that this is absolute bullshit and that's been proven over the last 100 years. When pigeon racing was in its heyday nobody took any notice of young bird winners, I remember winning my club with 462 birds and being 4th fed with over 3'000 birds and you couldn't give the Bird away. Real champion pigeons were of a higher calibre and because of the competition few and far between. Looking at Alf Bakers real champions and the past champions once housed by Louis Massarella we are all being brainwashed by clever advertising.

      In my very humble opinion big money leagues and birds does no harm to the sport. Untold billions are poured into top end football teams but there's still always a place for Sunday five aside and pub team football. I'm never going to compete with such birds but it will not stop my love for my birds or the enjoyment I get from the sport.
      I think more to blame for the death of the sport is the modern obsession's with ego, technology and talentless celebrities damaging young peoples values and self esteem. Long gone are the days of most children seeing the beauty in nature and finding joy in something as simple and humble as looking after an animal.
      This is however not the average persons fault I think its all a very calculated plan by the global "elite" to push selfish, ill informed, egoistical values on to children in order to create a generation easy to manipulate with money, power, status and misinformation.
      Not trying to argue or saying you cant have an opinion just an observation from a youngish fancier.
      👍

      @Josh-NikkiB 6 месяцев назад

      totally agree, just saying as an average working man I still love playing pigeons with my team all from given YB's from local club. But yes unfortunately to play at a competitive level I would need a rather large cash injection 🤣 as you say, unless I happened to hatch a one in a million bird. @@barbarahalkyard1901

    • @kerbyjackson88
      @kerbyjackson88 6 месяцев назад +5

      @Josh-NikkiB That was an excellent response, and I think you're correct. I, for one, don't think birds selling for big prices ruins it. It's still easy to get started and most clubs will help the new fanciers with birds. The actual cost of racing (timer, transport, OLR fees, etc) does seem to be responsible for putting a lot of people off, but the expenses are not extravagances. In most cases they merely reflect the fact the cost of fuel, product, etc. exceeds what many can afford. When you consider the cost of a new timer, racing fees, training fuel, etc., it's probably going to cost about 10% of an average take home salary for a first year flier. That doesn't even count feed, mineral, some bird purchases, training baskets, nest bowls, lofts, etc. At day's end, that is an expensive commitment, but it's not because it's lavish. I think those expenses do seem to put many off, but it's not really something the sport can control. It just merely reflects the fact that a lot of people don't have a lot of disposable income in this day and age in relation to daily living.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  6 месяцев назад +6

      All good points but some outstanding pigeons that were as good as any in the world were available at 250 pounds. Many are chasing the highly commercial promoted pigeons and there are many super pigeons for a fraction of the cost.

    • @kerbyjackson88
      @kerbyjackson88 6 месяцев назад

      I think it's safe to say that a lot of the motivation for chasing the highly promoted is often commercial. They will sell many, many offspring of those birds. Beyond that, the Chinese elite consider such pigeons to be status symbols of their wealth. The buyer will make his money back and then some.@@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
