i feel it necessary to point this out, if the light you cover does emit U.V, covering it with blue and purple will filter the U.V through, and you will get a bit of a black light effect. this is because of the 2 LED type of light his HTC is using. but if you have a cheap LED (or a different one ) it might not output the right wavelengths...

This works because of how white LEDs produce light. They have a yellowish white phosphor coating stimulated by a blue/UV light producing LED underneath. Filtering some of the white light out (and tinting it blue for contrast) makes the glow from the marker more apparent. It depends entirely on the type of LED you use and how efficiently it converts the blue/UV light into white light. If it has poor efficiency, more UV will leak through.

best life hack by far!!! However I recommend using Expo brand dry erase markers over Sharpie. due to their ability to bond to the tape but also is a much watered down formula making light more visible. 👍👍

Great idea! I could use that method when I[m ordering stuff out of a catalog: simply mark with a yellow marker, then go through later and list everything with a black light to see the stuff I've marked.

This is infact uv-a but its vawelenght is most likly 385-400nm. So its just the same as cheap 3mm diodes in those small lasers with uv.

Am I right by stating that this trick will only work with the light source that already has blaclight (UV) withing it's spectrum???
I mean I suppose the filters wouldn't work with some other sources of light.
