What I love the most is that people after all these fkn years still massively type darude - sandstorm whenever someone politely asks for a song they hear in a video
By his expression it's looks like he's happy that people are putting so much effort and making their own version (it's also makes the original version more popular) however I can understand, he definitely hates it since all these people are mocking his song it's became a meme
I have seen someone make Techno using nothing but a sponge and a piezo microphone..... if it makes a sound it can be used to make music does not matter what it is
Looks amazing, but is not that hard. I've seen it in lots of veggies, actually. I find much more amazing the coordination in the thud video, now THOSE guys blow my mind.
Something like 95% of all entertainment consumed in Finland is American-made, so people learn American English at an early age. I'm about the same age as Darude, and I learned English by watching Masters of the Universe.
That the first thing he does is heap praise, credit and thanks on these fans for their effort, ingenuity and innovations says everything about that guy.
I literally got a shiver through my body from his appreciation of spinoff creation spirit... I think it was the idea of all trademarks owners being so appreciative would be a much better environment for everybody. after all... it's free ads for the OG
There is a hardstyle bootleg of the song which is so amazing. Whenever it is played the crowd goes crazy. Since it's no offical remix it doesn't get played often though
I love how appreciative he is. If this was a beatles or fleetwood mac song that people were replicating then they would be sued for copyright infringement. Darude is just happy that people like his music.
I was there when this first came out, I remember it being at the top of the charts for so long back when the charts were something people paid attention to. Me and my family used to watch a show called top 30 hits in ireland in the 90s and that's where I remember it from. I'm sure we commented on how long this stayed around. A song doesn't have this kind of staying power unless it really is a work of brilliance or just a meme, and memes weren't around back then in the way they are now so I say the former.
For some reason it really threw me off when Darude said 'Sandstorm' without saying his own name first. Like it's always said as 'Darude - Sandstorm' and I guess if one person gets a pass to not say the artist its him, but it just sounds strange
Sandstorm is one of the most recognizable tracks in the world, that is a huge achievement to compose something that so many people know and recognize instantly even if played on a potato :D
This song is the anthem of all anthems. Its the "national anthem" of EDM...there is a flute cover somewhere on youtube that is my fav cover, some guy entertaining friends in his lounge. Its brilliant
darude got mad at the crowd when he came to my city because people wanted him to play sandstorm, i don’t know if he knows this but that’s the only reason people were there for
Whenever i hear sandstorm i think of when i when i was a child. My parents took me to a familday at a farm school where they had alot of posts and activities. But what was stuck in my mind was the showoff of the horses riding obstacles with sandstorm in the background. FYI, the music was faster than the horses. But still it stuck so hard that i relive that moment everytime i hear sandstorm.
I'm sure he was happy that so many people made covers of his song and the people making covers were happy that he reacted to them. Honestly biggest form of appreciation right there.
There's also one video of a kid who tapped this with 2 pencils (or pens) to his pulpet. And he was accurate. Even if it can't match the complexity of joined efforts of 6 boom whacker players with all the chances to go wrong - it'd be worth watching with these clips.

The best thing Darude ever did was not require royalties for this song. If he had, it would've been a forgettable piece heard by the few into that genre of music. By not doing so, he enabled thousands, if not tens of thousands, to use it as cover music for their bootleg tutorials and thus achieved a far wider spread than it ever could've hoped to have done so on its own.
Sandstorm is the only song in the world that I have gone from used to “hating it” to now loving it, I even bought a copy from iTunes and downloaded it so I can always listen to it even if no WiFi or data coverage. All other songs I hate, I still hate. But sandstorm has done a 180 for me.
