I came for the sewing, the lovely ladies and their charming accents were a nice bonus. I'm a middle aged American chap, with lots of power tools and my sewing machine is one of my favorites.
It was great to see your class using the beautiful vintage Singers. This is a good idea, because it shows People, that you don't have to have one of the those expensive embroidery machines, to do free motion embroidery.
I love your work since I found you in the Sew Hip magazine about 2 years ago (issue 15). I wish I live close to you guys so that I can attend one of your workshops. Your work it is really inspiring. Thanks you so much and keep creating. XO Jen
Thank you for your feedback. We didn't mean to mislead. The video is an introduction to one of our freehand machine embroidery workshops, hence the title but I understand not very helpful if you want to learn the technique. Do come and join one of our workshops if you ever visit the UK though, as you can see they are a lot of fun!
Greeting Poppy my question is in using a regular old singer machine and transforming it into making it work like an embroider machine, because I know that you have to drop the feed dog so it won't go up and down, so how do you make it work for an old singer. Right now I do it by hand and I have so many machines like your self and I would like to use one of them just for embroider. In His grace,Lorisa aka Ellescrapper
Hi Poppy. I am looking for advice on the best sewing machine to get for just doing this. I currently have an old Jones xl 65 machine but can't seem to lower teeth on it for doing freehand .... what cheapish machines would you recommend? Thanks
I expected a tutorial; this video is stuck in amongst all the teaching-to-embroider videos. It's actually a video-advertisement for a class in England, is it? Great ad, the class looks like fun. But I live in the US. Perhaps the text description about the RUclips video could be clearer?
Hi Poppy great workshop I'm over in Ireland is there any workshops here? Man aged to put on toe to help with free stitching but no room for hoop, any suggestions. One of my machines has foot cover but treads keep catching and needle breaks any help?
very much useful. thanks to you and i want to know the model of the machine and i would like to purchase for my domestic use. please provide me the machine model and name.
hi i have an old singer machine it is a treadmill one as it is one u pull out off a table do they a dog feet to drop ..cos my new machine u only move a lever if it dose could u please tel me where it would be ...thanks
I think that you might find that on machines where the feed dogs can cannot be lowered, you can instead fit a slightly raised cover plate, so the dogs don't contact the fabric.
Hi Ellescarpper - sorry just found your question now. Our machines allow us to drop the feed dog but not all Singers do - if you find they don't you may be able to get advice from your local sewing shop or find a plate to cover the feed teeth. Good luck
Hi Kharisx, apologies, missed these messages! We recently posted a blog entry about choosing a sewing machine, hopefully may be a little bit helpful If yuoy visit our website there is a link to our blog from there

love the fact that you are using old Singers to do the embroidery...
Great work. Using old singer machines to embroider is more difficult when using the newer generation sewing machines

Oh wow I heard about you and your shop from the Jan issue of Mollie Makes!
If I was living in the UK I would dash right over to your workshop! :)
I wish they had one here in North Carolina. That would be so amazing!
Love this !!!
The lovely Hannah is wearing a Bunyip Beads necklace too!

Well I liked what I saw but it could have been a little more detailed. What size needle and what stabilizer did you use?
I, too, was disappointed when there was no tutorial. Interesting though!

We have new course dates available! visit www.poppytreffry.co.uk/courses for dates and booking
Lovely.....do you use a stabilizer?
Hi, we don't - we stretch the fabric in an embroidery hoop and then we just draw with the needle, no foot or stabilizer.
