    "Right away - without practicing" Very wise precautionary words. And like driving - it takes practice and the ability to see what is ahead of you. (14:Min),
    Thanks for helping all of us on our various levels of experience and journeys. At 60+ I can agree 100% , practice is essential.

    Well worth the watch. I typically don't watch 40+ minutes videos on sewing, but this 40 minute video taught me more than the years my mother spent teaching me (sorry mom). I feel like I've just stepped out a university class after watching this video. His advice is really solid, I had flimsy wooden embroidery hoop in my amazon cart and after watching this I realize I will need something stronger.

    i've been waiting for YEARS for instruction on embroidery using a 'regular' sewing machine. i want complete control in order to express my original designs. Christopher Nejman's teaching techniques are truly excellent as he combines great design examples with CLEAR language about what he is doing step by step. I can't wait to see ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS Christopher because they are not the usual "crafty" cheap looking ( disposable) stuff. Apologies to crafters, but executing your own precious work is a different matter.

    Well, as a florist I can appreciate the passion you have for what you are doing. I have that passion for weddings. Due to the economy being the way it is there are not many jobs out in my field and my 2nd passion always has been sewing and knitting. So this is what I am doing now. The flowers with the "fuzzies" are the Dandelions. I love your videos and I am going to build a worktable around my sewing machine. Your videos are great. I bet your wife loves what you do.

    I’ve been searching for a computer embroidery machine for months but not only found that they are thousands of dollars I just couldn’t find one. After searching for videos on how to do free machine embroidery I found you and may I say, you’re the best! You explain stet by step and in English!!! I was also convinced that an old Singer machine would best and hope to find one. Thank you, thank you Christopher and look forward to all your video and books.

    This technique also works quite qwell on my ol' treadle machine.
    While there is no facility to use two spools, this is easy to get around - instead of using two spools use two bobbins instead of spools, one on top of the other.
    Like the man said - ya gotta think outside the box ...

      sarahleah hankes All the tips are very important. That ergonomic tip is really important too. I did as he said and practised and it sunk in really quick why. Even the sounds he said to listen to was very key to my fast progress. What got me hooked was when he mentioned in other countries they use really old singers. I looked right over at my 1893 singer in the treadle base and said to myself, ok I will try this!! I tried and watched the video again and picked up more tips that I forgot.

    Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your techniques with us. I've always wondered about machine embroidery & was never sure if you really could do much on a mechanical machine. Mine is old but was medium to top of the line at the time. It's has great stitch control, so you've just made me feel more comfortable in giving it a go! I wouldn't have thought of metallic thread to begin with, but I can see how it could help hide in perfectionist etc. I LOVE the combination threads you used, made the most GORGEOUS colours. • @alibabafurball
      @alibabafurball 9 лет назад

      rpgroupie I am currently trying this out on a 1893 singer vs2/27 with the dogwood decals. It is not a zigzag machine, yet if you watch the video close you can mimic the movement with practice. I practiced working the treadle at slow to fast speeds using music to keep the beat to and not having the thread or even the bobbin. Then I put in some Final Touch top thread and some old bobbin thread that was already on the bobbin I got with the machine. It worked out good for a first try, or so I thought. The top thread gets pulled to the bobbin side and the bobbin thread sometimes goes to the top without stopping and fiddling with the tension in any manner. I didn't have one needle strike any metal and never broke any needles, due to the practice with music I think.

    The tip with the twill on the inside hoop is great! I didn't have twill tape but tons of scrap fabric. Some of them don't really frey, I've cut it in longer strips, wrapped my 3 (different sized) hoops and glued it at the end with a tiny drop of glue. Awesome! I don't have an embroidery foot. I embroider the way I found in a very very old singer booklet : take off the presser foot and the holder (in my case a snap on), make sure the feet in the bottom are down and off you go 😊

    hi Christopher Great idea on the extension table. I just recently stumbled on your youtube videos. I really enjoy your tutorials. I thought i would offer One little trick when cutting out the material to prevent it from chipping. If you place painters tape or masking tape works too on the material in the area you will be cutting and then draw your lines along the tape; when cutting through the tape and material it will keep it from chipping the top of the melamine as the jigsaw slices through the material. Little trick i had see when working in the construction industry, plumbers and cabinet persons use it all the time when cutting out counter tops for sinks or other appliances to prevent the top from chipping.

    With patience you can do this on any machine. I started with an old Singer treadle machine that had a motor added later. It could only do straight stitch but free motion sewing was possible. A machine with zig-zag makes the job a lot easier. I've done pieces where the threads are the same colour as the fabric to give a texture rather than sparkle. Metallic needles have rounder eye holes so they don't break the yarn as easily but if you're experimenting with ordinary threads then a standard needle will work.
