  • In this video, I'm going to demonstrate the how to fix a loose Cap on Lamy Safari. Sometimes, the Lamy safari cap's snapping will feel weak / loose as time goes by. The capping feel of safari is mainly coming from the inner cap mating with the pen's section. So by retightening the inner cap, we can improve the cap snapping feel, making it feels sharp and precise as when you got a new pen.
In order to do that, you've to:
    1. disassemble the safari's cap in order to extract the inner cap.
    2. wrap a layer or 2 cellophane tape around the mouth of inner in order to reinforce and retighten it.
    3. reassemble the cap.
This video also shows how to disassemble the safari's cap.

Hey I am glad I found your video. Thanks for drawing it in detail. I had two Safaris to fix. Me and my dad learned something that might help you too. So, once you have popped off the finial with the dowel (we used a scredriver), you can push the inner cap by using the dovel on the opposite side and pushing it down. This prevents the stress on the inner cap if clip removal is attempted. Once tape is applied- push the inner cap back inside the cap and as you suggested: use the pen body to push it (we used a hex socket). The undue pressure on the inner cap while removing the clip can be be avoided and may help maintain its life.

thanks for offering some suggestions! Let's hope that I don't need to disassemble the cap that many times in the first place.

This repair is not without risk- be careful to have your 'pushing tool' exactly centered to only push on the finial- otherwise the inner cap can tear. (don't ask me how I know!) I used a 3mm hex key as a tool. I used 2 wraps of electrical tape around the inner cap to improve the snap. The pen is back together with improved snap, but I'm guessing the inner cap will fall out at some point as there is nothing holding it in but friction at this point. I might have to glue it in place if it falls out.
does anyone offer replacement inner cap components? Lamy doesn't appear to, and I couldn't find anything on Amazon or Aliexpress.

yep i guess having a softer rounder 'pushing tool' would help, like a wooder stick or something of the right size and shape.

Glad it helps! Which pen are you referring? I do list the pen and ink used in this video in the description. The M200 was loaded with Diamine Ancient Copper.

Ok. Now any idea how to fix a loose nib? I have a brand new Safari and the lib is loose.

Loose nib? Safari's nib is easy to remove from the feed and reattach. Perhaps you can try remove and reinstall nib?
Now, it can be a good video for my future tinkering with pen video..
